whats up all. Some friends and I are looking into getting into this game but want some opinions of it before we do. Please let me know some good and bad points of the game. We play Socom on-line right now but are looking for a new challenge. Is this game strictly on-line or is there a 1 player mode also?

Thanks in advance.......

The Game is a Massivly Multiplayer and so is entirely online. There is a single-player training, but some people have claimed it did not work for them. I guess is works on-and-off for some people as I completed it without problems.

Good and bad points? well, there are constant updates, well-balenced weapons (its not as bad as some of the whiners would have you believe) the game looks great, has fun and interesting gameplay.

The game does require a powerful system to make the most of it, but I know people with fairly average systems that do fine in big battles. (Never mind my radeon 9800+ gig of ram+ P4 3.00 :D )

The monthly fee is nominal; (it really is, less expencive than most magazine subscriptions and more content). PS also has its share of bugs, most MMO games go through a rough few months early on and PS is no different, it IS improving.

I  Planetside.

GREAT GAME!!! ALL out war

3 empires to choose from.
NC, TR, Vanu (barneys)

squad based... dynamic skys... TONS of action..
... tons of vehicles.. weapons.. different amors.. also you can be like medic, hacker, engineer.. game has rpg elemets (you get br rank and cr rank.. (grunts get br.. if you a squad leader u get cr rank)BR goes up to 20 and CR goes up to 5.
each battle rank you reach you get 1 certification point towards
ex.. amor cert.., vehicle cert, weapon cert.. etc..

Oh man and when Raids are setup... i live to see a shit load of tanks.. drop ships.. reavers, lined up to take out the enemy

game is stricktly online.. they do have a offline training..
i played socom myself.. and its nothing like it.. i perfer planetside anyday..

huge outfits... hundreds of people play..
the conts.. are massive.. and i mean massive.. Great battles.. especially towers...

there is really no point to the game.. just see what empire can take over the most bases..
theres an expanison pack (core combat October release)
looks sweet..

Cons:
alot of bugs
hard to find fights in some servers
and can be boring for those who play games like battlefield, Halo, even Socom.. you need to put time into this game..
just getting some where can take a FEW minutes..
and battles to take over a base can last an hour or 2..

All an All its a fucking great game.. hope to see you in the battlefield..

try the 7 day.. thats why its out there..

i used to play Spearhead alot and let me just say Planetside blows it away! the other people here have already explained how it is how exelent it is, i'll just add... if you put the graphics high you see shrubs, grass and assorted ferns, not to mention they change with the cointent you're on. And of course the battles are massive sometimes with hundreds of people involved and once they open up the core combat expansion it will practically another world with new weapons, but in some updates they add new vehicles. A while ago they added 2 new vehicles so it's a great game maybe i'll see you around;)

Planetside is a decent game. I followed it months before release and I have to say it's not what I'd been expecting but it's still pretty good. The gameplay is interesting for a while but gets repetitive because the only objectives are bases and towers. Most people will just throw themselves at a base with a "zerg" until one side overpowers the other which just gets plain boring.
Weapons and vehicles are pretty balanced, and since you can constantly change certs, it keeps me interested enough to play as different types of soldiers. Just don't expect the game to stay interesting for over a year.

Lo and behold... Expansions :D just like EQ, how long could you play pre-kunark EQ before dying of boredom?

This is what I like about PS...

Huge battles (not all the time, but when you find one it makes it all worthwhile)
Awesome vehicles
Different roles (hacker, grunt, pilot, etc.)
Strategic gameplay (if you are part of a good outfit)

What I don't like...

Some of the bugs can be a pain

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you're an FPS fan at the very least DL the 7-day free trial. Don't say the cost is an issue please...anyone that has a computer that can handle PS graphics, can afford $0.43 /day. :p

The expansions may add new weapons, vehicles, continents etc...
but it's sure as hell not gonna help the gameplay.

Well suposedly the devs are trying to take battles away from the facilities and zerg and move to "other" objectives. Dont know what that means, but maybe it'll be good.
