What video games do you think are movie worthy? i mean we played many many videogames in our lives, which one would have he most chance of getting into showbiz....or moviebiz....watever.
I think Final FantasyX would make a very good movie, even though half the game is already like part movie, but seeing the characters performed by real actors would be sweet, and i think Final FantasyX would make a really good movie (cause yuna(sp?) is hotT).
Oh and speaking of videogames and movies, nintendo's Metriod is being made by the makers of Final Destination and American Pie (why the hell are makers from AP working on some action movie though?), and Samus is hotT too, so it should be good when it comes out........5 years from now...........or whatever.........

About any game would make a good movie. Half-life, warcraf etc. etc. tons of titles would make a real good seller eh.

Any game with an indepth plot and halfway decent in-game dialogue like say Deus Ex or Metal Gear Solid.
What exactly are they going to make out of Metroid? She's a lone bounty hunter. She doesn't have any wacky sidekicks or love interests. The planets the metroids are on are usually devoid of human life so she sure as hell better not meet any wacky sidekicks or love interests. The movie, assuming they held true to Metroid, would be 2 hours of Samus walking around finding equipment and shooting the native wildlife. And if they don't hold true to it then why call it Metroid?
FFX I agree would be a great movie, but I'm not so sure you could fit the entire story into a single movie.
Over all, just considering the sheer number of crappy movies that have been made out of video games....come to think of it I think crappy may just cover all movies to come out of video games...hmmm
I digress. My point was that video games are good and movies are good. Combining the two generally ends up badly though. Kinda like while chocolate syrup is good and american cheese slices are good, combining the two is generally bad...very very bad

ehh, i dunno, i agree its probably gona be boring, but they just got the contract or whatever several months ago so nothings really made.....
hmmmm, maybe Mario movie, or Zelda....i kno somewhere back then they made something, but it from what i hear was a load of crap.
ya kno, i would also like to see GT (i dont wana spell it cause i'll make a bigass sp) as a movie, or maybe Halo........o, and one of the GTA games.
Well if they start the Metroid movie with how Samus was found by the chozo and got her armor than it might have potentiel. If they don't go into her past than it's gonna suck.

i've come to the conclusion that the only way to make a good game>movie is to do it CG animation style
i would love for Blizzard to make a Warcraft III movie, they have great talents when it comes to CG animation, the scenes in Warcraft III being spectacular proof

Yeah good call on that Dio. The backstory of Samus could be a very cool movie indeed. I just know that they'll stick some hot chick in as Samus and at some point her armor will be completely torn to shreds except her gun and she'll be tromping around in her underwear shooting things though
Max Payne would be cool, and it's a game that's doable in a movie for the most part.
I'd love to see a well done series of Mechwarrior movies. Ones that follow one of the wars, have good special effects and better actors.

That game owned. And yeah, I'd sacrifice children to see a Metal Gear Solid movie.

No game will ever make an excellent movie because of three things:
1) After past failures of game movies at the box office, no major funding will ever be allocated for a game-to-movie transformation.
2) With lack of funding comes lack of talented writers, which are a NECESSITY for changing a game to a movie. A lot of games have talented writing to begin with, that's for certain. But a lot of it centers around the gameplay; long sneaking segments or convoluted puzzles or what have you.
3) Lack of talented directors. Self-explanatory.

There are exceptions to the rule, Tomb Raider probably being the most prominent. I think the reason many of the past movies based off of video games has in large part had to do with the games chosen. Super Mario Brothers was a horrible choice. Street Fighter was just as bad a choice, if not even worse. Mortal Kombat actually wasn't too horrible but it definately doesn't belong in the "good movie" category. MK2 was just the same as Mortal Kombat but with some really, and I do mean really, shitty CGI at the end of it. Resident Evil...well I hate the Resident Evil games to begin with and not even Milla (hottest chick in any movie ever goes to her for her role of Leeloo in The 5th Element) could save that movie for me. God I hate suspense thriller games. Although hate may not be a strong enough word.....loathing hatred maybe?
Sorry, I got a little distracted there. Anyways point being there have been some very poor choices in games to convert on to the silver screen. Hopefully after the success of the Tomb Raider movies studios pull thier heads out of their asses and get the kind of funding and talent behind the next generation of movies based off video games and make them significantly less craptacular.

Why Final Fantasy X?! I thought the story for that was complete bollocks. Final Fantasy 7 would rule! Best story ever created in my opinion. You'd have to get Mr T to play Barret
Game movies are just as good as any other movie, it just all depends on the director and cast.
Interesting linkage :

If they make another FF movie i pray they use FF2/4 and/or FF3/6. :)

I'd love to see a FF 2/4 movie. I've always though it had the best story out of all of them. I thought 3/6 was ok, but it was a little dark for my tastes. A game where the entire world blows up half way through the game just depresses me for some reason

FF8 had just as good as FF7s storyline. When i thought the ff movie would actually be anything like the game i was wrong. the movie blew because it didnt have mages and spells and turn based battles. I wasnted to see an FF movie not one just made by the same people as FF.

If they were gonna make another FF movie, I would say go with 8. But if I had to vote on the best game to go to a movie it WOULD BE Metal Gear Solid, or MG Sons of Liberty. Actualy they could do a decent series of movies using all of the games. Just dropping a character in and saying hes snake would suck. That game is renouned for its STORY LINE AND CHARACTERS. Not to mention I wanna see who they would get to play Ocelot.

Mario i think could take another chance at the big screen, i mean make the movie based on Mario64.
and i think if i fail at racing, flying, or teaching, i'm gona put videogames on the big screen.

Ok I think I'm definitely going to say I disagree very, very vehemently when you say "FF8 had just as good as FF7s storyline." and I think that's all I'm going to say because if I say anything more it's probably going to be taken the wrong way.

movies can turn into very nice videogames, because movies have a set series of events, and a movie is usually focused on plotline, character development, etc. so all a developer has to do it is make it fun and allow interaction.
whereas, video games cannot turn into very nice movies, simply because video games are focused on interaction, rather than on plot, storyline, characters etc. with the rare case of RPG's. (but they usually mess them up with a completely stupid storyline and an incoherent script. let the movie makers make the movies.)

where most games>movies go wrong is that they try and reinvent the essence of the game, essentially pissing alot of the fans of the game off
Resident evil could have been a good horror/action movie if they had stuck to the games, creepy zombies coming out of dark corners and streets and stuff, and not the crap that it was
personally, i think Blizzard could make an absolutely GREAT CGI game, i mean, have you seen those CGI sequences in Warcraft III? they were stunning! they had decent cinematography too, not just pretty visuals

CGI's in WCIII were very cool (I still get chills when I hear "Succeeding you, father."). The style was a little cartoonish though, high quality cartoonish, but cartoonish all the same. I do agree it would be interesting to see a CGI movie that takes place in the warcraft universe, but I don't know that it would be a large enough box office draw to meet it's production costs.
After all while we gaming nerds tend to gather in large clusters, we really don't add up in comparison to the general public. Although thanks to the proliferation of gaming of just about every type that may just change... <insert maniacal laughter here>

8 sucked, especially compared to 7. But regarding FFX, I'd rather see Lulu than Yuna.
The reason game movies don't work is because a movie isn't a game. For example, in FF7 you have to climb Mt. Nibel. In a game this is interesting because you fight many bad guys along the way. In a movie it would suck because you can't have a whole scene dedicated to climbing a mountain and fighting random beasts. When you think about it, half of the game involves walking from one place to another with no dialogue. This would make a poor movie.

I would guess that there is at least 4+ hours of just dialogue in FFX though (still haven't beat it and my copy has a big scracth on it so /shrug). In most modern RPGs there is a ton of dialogue, sometimes almost too much *cough*Xenosaga*cough*. The thing to keep in mind is your average movie script is much shorter than most people assume. It takes a lot longer to act out a scene than it does to read.
With FF7 the quickest coimpletion time I've heard of was something like 48 hours. Much of that is just what you stated, walking around killing things. No one is suggesting a 48 hour movie however. You take out all the fighting except for some a small number of random skirmishes for atmosphere, add in the boss scenes and then include all the dialogue from the entire game and I'm willing ot bet you'd end up with a trilogy at least.

The amount of fucked up goons in Twisted Metal would make an extremely sick (but ultimately good) film!

House of the Dead... No I'm kidding really
As to games...
Max payne could make a pretty good, although predictable movie.
Hitman would actually make a decent movie if they discarded the existing story.
Onimusha, it has swords :)
The movies from video games that worked for me are all the ones that stayed true to form ie. Mortal Kombat was about a tourney, streey fighter was not... which made money?
I hope they make more but I hope they start to find better games to make them after!

Okay, here's my few, a some of you might not have a clue what some of these games are, A Boy and his Blob, Mega Man, Dragon Warrior, Nobunga's Ambition, Diablo, Diablo 2, Star Craft, Baldur's Gate, Ice Wind Dale, Legend of Zelda, X-Com: Ufo Defense Force, Grand Theft Auto (Although, they did Gone in 60 Seconds, which was a movie I loved. I loved seeing all those beautiful cars). Thing is, they did Final Fantasy, which I thought was a good movie, because they didn't use any of the series' plots. They created their own plot.
And I liked Resident Evil. RE was about how it started, not about the game. The movie was before the Games began. As far as I could tell. And let me tell you, that Laser scene was something nasty. I'd be scared shit less being in that situation, and I'd be dead. The Red Queen managed to take out a good portion of the cast even before the half way point of the movie.

the only part of RE that i liked was in the end, with her crawlin around in that piece of paper the revealed more than it hid
