View Full Version : Your Dream Game

I know ever since playing Privatter and TIE Fighter and at a later date Jedi Knight I've had a dream game. Thought maybe I'd toss a thread out and see what ideas other people had for their dream game.
Mine goes something like this. You start out as a tramp freighter pilot with a run down pile of shit for a ship and a whole lot of ambition. You then do jobs or trade/smuggle to get credits to upgrade your ships. The jobs themselves are randomly generated or done for various factions, probably the Hutts, the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. The random missions need a lot of variety, hopefully something to the tune of 75-100 different things that can mix and match to create a truly huge total.
All three factions would have thier own series of missions and hopefully all three series being rather long (40-50 each). At some point in the plot missions you cement youself to one of the factions.
If you go Imperial the rebels and for the most part the Hutts as well don't like you a whole lot. However you get some bonus things from working for the empire. First you're able to freely trade in the inner sphere which is where most of the cash is. Second you get the highest paying missions in the game because the Empire has a lot of cash to toss around. Third you get access (eventually) to some of the best ships in the game like the TIE Advanced and maybe even a TIE Defender or two.
If you go Rebel the Emipre attempts to hunt you down as your activites with the Rebellion become more and more important. This obviously makes trading in the inner sphere much tougher thus making trading for cash much harder to do. To counter balance that the rebels are willing to provide you with a certain amount of credits and assets out of gratitude to your continuing assistance with their struggles. The Hutts remain rather neutral. Kind of a you leave us the hell alone we leave you alone type of thing.
If you go with the Hutts again the Empire doesn't like your illegal activities a whole lot but if you make yourself useful, and bribe the right officials, you can get by. That is, of course, barring you doing things like boarding imperial convoys and stations and even those things can be cleared up with enough Im[erial pocketlining. The Rebels aren't overly fond of you either but if you make youself useful to them they are willing to overlook that you've gotten where you are by being a crook unless fo course your doing things like ambushing rebel convoys.
Now this would be the kicker for me. Not only do you have your ship that you fly and modify but if you have the means you can buy other ships like bulk freighters and even spaceports and you can then modify those as well. Then for defense you can buy gunplatforms and starfighters. You have to also hire pilots but the ships come with decent pilots and you only need to manage them if you want to hire better, and therefore, more expensive pilots. The important thing I think here would be to make the upgrading and managemnt of your facilities optional.
Then assuming you decide to aquire these things periodically it may be necessary to take charge and defend them or choose let them defend themselves. What I don't want however is for it to be absolutely necessary for you to defend them. If you've taken the time to put defenses in place, they should be able to defend them with little or no direct supervision, barring you pissing off the Imperials enough for them to send a fleet after your property or the Hutts enough for them to start doing some demolition work.
Then if all of that wasn't enough, throw in Jedi Knight quality FPS action for missions that require you to do things like boarding a ship or do a drop off on a planet or hunt down some poor bastard and that would be my dream game.
Would it ever happen? Of course not. The develoment costs in a game that massive in scope would probably drive most developers out of business. If it ever was done though and more importantly done well, I think I could almost promise a Game of the Year award :p

i only read the first 3 paraghaphs, but i have a suggestion.
Freelancer. sounds roughly what you described :)

freelancer is awful, though.
yeah, the single player missions are pretty fun, but after you finish them, it goes to randomized missions and flying around on trade routes to get a big ship to blast mindless enemies in space. yipee. and the online portion is lag filled and makes it impossible to hit anything.
anyways, my dream game would be if they merged the gameplay of lineage 2 with the interesting races of horizons with a skill based system and the tactical skill involved with an fps.

Read the rest Eine ;) I own freelancer and while I agree it's definately a fun game. It has virtually no replay value though and attaining the best ship and guns is a rather trivial thing. That and it's not in the Star Wars universe :p
Actually what I posted above was what I was praying SWG would be. I knew it wouldn't be but I was definately hoping

my dream game would be a sci-fi version of bushido blade.
lightsaber duels in JKii are cool, but the superfast, 1HK bushido blade 2 just haven't been matched since. imagine that. different stances with different attacks AND defense for each, and even better if you threw in force powers or high-tech secondary weapondry. the levels would be cool too, like fighting on top of a moving ship in spacesuits, or on an alien planet with weird plants and stuff. that game would own.

a realistic, fun, MMOFPS of WWII, choosing to play as either the Britts, the Germans, or the Americans
the server wouldn't be split, just one massive server that holds europe, scaled to about 1/2 or 1/4 for gameplay, perhaps less
you can fly planes, tanks, ships, form squads, platoons, all the way up to divisions
it'll be realistic to the point where squad strategy and tactics like suppressive fire and such actually work
the devs will have certain people they pick to be generals, these generals control the overall scheme of things, they're orders will show up on people's screens as objectives, they can launch infantry assaults, air strikes, naval bombardments, and paradrops, and it'll show up to all the relevant players, e.g., airstrikes will only show up to the pilots, paradrops and all infantry stuff will show up to the inf. and stuff. it'll be up to the platoon leaders and such to carry out the specifics to obtain these objectives.
there will be a steady stream of resources we will call war materials, it is up to the generals how these war materials will be used, they'll set a certain amount aside for ships, armor, aircraft and ammo, so a player can only spawn a plane if there are enough resources set aside for planes to spawn one
it would be set up so general's and platoon leader's orders would generally carry alot of weight, heavily discouraging players not to be in a squad or platoon, with platoon leader's and squad leader's having an overhead kind of RTS screen they can access to provide quick waypoint orders to their men, enabling some cool squad tactics and stuff. platoon leaders also have the ability to call for reinforcements, air support, or artillery bombardment, which would show up on the map according to type, except for arty bombardment which would be an automatic thing
ships will have a type of manual arty as well, being able to pick a general spot on the map for their rounds to fall, but if there is a scout in the area, he can also talk to him and utilize his view to more precisly aim his shots
vehicle physics would be more on the realistic side, no BF, but no simulator either, meaning planes will fly at the proper speeds and be able to reach relatively high altitudes and such. there won't be a giant learning curve to fly, it will take a relatively short amount of time to learn how to fly.

Something like Freelancer, only you can board ships and fight enemies onboard FPS-style. I wish all the shooting in Freelancer wasn't just cutscenes, cause the game had a good engine for rendering shooter environments.

Yeah that's one thing I really wish games like Freelance had. I'd love to be able to land in a spaceport and go do things FPS style too. Like say for instance instead of just clicking to go to the shop to buy things for my ship I have to walk/run there and talk to the guy. Or to get missions from peopel I don't just click on the bar, I actually walk to the bar. It could add a lot to the atmosphere if the spaceports/cities on planets were done right

Never even thought of that, Vick. That would indeed kick ass. Also gives me another idea. Fallout FPS with Fallout Tactics style multiplayer. In other words squad based FPS with objectives.

Mine would be an mmorpg where there are different planets in a galaxy (server) in which there are cities all run by real people. wars against other races and groups in huge fields fps style.
So you could like join up with the army of your race. there would be tons of different planets and you could have houses and such.
But there would also be space. You could fight with your races army against anothers in space and have your own ship. Or you could be a bounty hunter and track down villians that are played by real people (just like cowboy bebop).
You could also run shops or whatever. Just VERY free ended and player run. no stupid npcs unless needed.
of course this is a dream game, this would be very hard to put togher irl.

a MMOFPS/RPG/SIM where you are a Police Officer or Criminal (the two races) and you work your way up the ladder and go out on the street looking for criminals and stuff, don't ask.

General Klamo
General Klamo is the leader of the Klamado military. He is also the discoverer of the planet Klamado.
Storyline
In a secret military base on a planet called Klamado robots drag Bullet (before experiment) and a ram into the experimenting room, the camera stops at the door and we hear saw sounds, screams, and baaing. The robots take Bullet out of the room and into his new cell with Lance. Lance tells Bullet that he snuck in his bow and arrow under his clothes. Bullet punches the wall of the cell in anger and a large chunk of it falls over into the armory room Bullet goes inside and has just enough time to take a pistol before the alarm sounds. Bullet and Lance go back inside the cell and pull the chunk of the wall back up and put it where it was before. The guards come in and notice the cracks on the wall so they nudge it slightly and it falls right over on them. Bullet and Lance pull it back up and turn around. The cell guard (A robot) looks up at them and goes back to sleep and just as the two guards wake up the wall falls over again. Bullet points the pistol at the cell guard and tells him to let him out. The guard opens the door and Bullet goes even further and commands the robot guard to join his side, and he does.

EDIT: oh yeah and thats not all ive come up with its just the tip of the iceberg

MMO/FPS/RPG/Spacecraft Action/RTS
Confusing?
Yes.
Think EVNova in 3d FPS.
There's a galaxy of roughly 100-125 planets, and about as many space stations.
Almost everything is player ownable.
7-10 governments, led by players.
Hundreds of ships, with ship design built into the game (if you buy your own shipyard or hire someone to build it for you)
Trade Runs, Blockades, Piracy, Smuggling
Everything's FP except when you're in your ship, which can be manned by more than one person.
Enlist a board a capital ship, man the turrets.
If you run it by yourself, they slowly auto-fire at enemy ships.
Enlist as a fighter on a carrier.
Buy a planet, own a cantina, take over a spaceport.
This should become feasible in 30 years.
Boarding ships puts it into FP view, where you have blasters, pistols, rifles, plasma guns, lightsabre type weaponry.
Never gonna happen.

EV based game in 3D would suck, also, there's plenty of games that are like it. They've always sucked.
Edit: Any game like that with cap ships that are totally player manned would require huge amounts of people also.

I didn't even both to read the thread, but this is the game I'd like to see.
Medivial MMOFPS.
Which is I think what World of Warcraft is going to be kind like.

this is something like Age of Empires, only during the Vietnam War. in the beginning, you choose which difficulty setting you want (easy, normal hard) then choose where you want to go (Cambodia, Laos, North Vietnam). you're then brought to the game screen. here is where you control the war in your area. on the command interface, you can choose one of two categories (radio, troop). within these categories are:
Radio: (check what you want)
- reinforcements (sp?)
-riflemen
-artillery men
-rocket men
-machine gunners
-resupply
-food
-water
-ammo
-miscelaneos(sp?) (tarps, building materials, etc,.)
-equipment (weaps, shit like that)
-medevac
Troop
-patrol (route set by waypoints)
-ambush (area set by player)
-dig in (build trenches, bunkers, other shit like that)
-regroup
im serious about my games. thats what im gonna do after college. im gonna work for a game developer for a few years, then open my own company (Herringbone Games) then ill open a chain of cyber cafes (you know, where you can go and play online games and shit) (any ideas on my career would be appreciated)
