View Full Version : Best Empire to play as?

I've heard it's the NC or TR. I wanted VS in the beginning because I was like (Tech is cool!) But now I realize it's just a mass mob with no idea what it's doing (From what I can tell. No offense to Vanus.)
Help? Suggestions?

Vanu is my own favorite and my main character is on Markov. However, I do play TR and NC on other servers when I feel like something different. All empires on each server have their share of mindless mobs and organized squads. Depending on how much and when you play you'll start recocgnizing people and you'll soon learn who's fun to play around and who's not.
Try all three empires and then go with one of them as your main character. Then just do like most people and start characters for other factions on other servers and have fun.

Oh yes, Another question. Can you quit an empire once you've joined it? Like, erase your charcter on that server and start over again?

I personally like the terran the best out of the 3 empires, ive played as all thre but the terran republic just was well organized and kicked ass in my opinion.;)

Yes you can erase you character and start over as the same or a different Empire on that server.

that's the general idea behind panetside currently. every empire on every server i'v played fights like this (though its worse now, because getting everyone online at once in one place is the only way to get a large fight anymore.)

The way to get away from the mob is to go looking for the smaller fights.
I've been doing a lot of that lately and it's been a lot of fun. For instance, last night I made Amerish my home and decided I'd stay and defend it even after the main fight had moved on. There's always small squads trying to slip thru and stir up trouble and you can have some fun one on one or small squad action going on. Having Combat Engineering allows me to set up ambushes and defend well, even when I'm alone. Plus, you wouldn't believe the amount of BEP you can make topping off base NTU (which is something I do in between the action).
If your're alone, watch for bases that suddenly show power loss or the NTUs start dropping for some strange reason. Get there and you can usually find some enemy stragglers draining the base or generally making a pest of themselves.
If your're on a continent where the zerg is in force, then move ahead and play the role of scout. Get to a base early and do some sabatoge work.
There's all sorts of things that you can do that don't involve following the zerg or sitting in a base and you can get a lot of BEP doing it. People who complain about the zerg are the same ones who mindlessly follow it and have no imagination of their own.
If you could follow me around some night when I'm in my lightning, then you'd see I'm raising hell away from the zerg and having fun doing it.
If you want technology its VS if you want slower but stronger weapons its NC and if you want fast firing weapons its the TR.

They all got their highs and lows, for example:
NC have the better looking armour, a great tank and great heavy buggy, but Jackhammer is not all that because at more than short range its a pea shooter, same goes for scatter pistol (its good for infils tho) and the uniform is the easier to spot.
VS have now a good heavy assault weapon, good tank too (especially with a gunner, let the reaver slaughter commence) but have bad pistol and bad buggy
And so on, personnaly I play as NC and I'm, happy there so whatever

Ok my take:
All factions have different strengths and weaknesses. Im mainly going to cover the grunts and MAXs here. (The vehicles can be found in this thread: http://www.planetside-universe.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=207663#post207663 )
Heres how I rate the different factions weapons (1 = best, 3 = worst):
Knives
TR: 1 (hums)
NC: 1 (hums)
VS: 3 (hums AND glows)
Pistols
TR: 1 (good punch, ROF, range and precision)
NC: 2 (hard hitting shotgun pistol, but You have to be really close)
VS: 4 (teh suck)
Medium Assault
TR: 1 (Cant go wrong with this baby.)
NC: 2 (Very close to the Cycler (TR). Good punch but looses out a bit on ROF)
VS: 3 (Worse in all aspects than its counterparts)
Anti Vehicle
TR: 1 (Has missile lock. Hit's any vehicle alike - tanks, airplane, MAX, You name it.)
NC: 3 (Guided missile which let You fire it from cover, but You are vulnerable while guiding the missile. Good punch but low ROF.)
VS: 3 (Can kill infantry and vehicles. But has problems with moving targets due to reticule bloom.)
Heavy Assault
TR: 3 (Good damage output, but the high ROF also comes with a hefty reticule bloom)
NC: 1 (The king. Pretty useless past 20 to 25 meters but up close this is a KILLER! Agile armor + Jackhammer + surge is an extremely powerful combination.)
VS: 2 (The number one spam weapon in the game. Steep learning curve but a solid HA weapon. Had it not gotten its AV properties nerfed it had been a runner up for the first position.)
MAX
TR: (Special ability: Anchors which almost doubles the ROF.)
AA: 3 (Not as bad as the third position might indicate. This one kills FAST, but it doesnt reach flight ceiling)
AI: 1 (Ive said it before and I say it again. This is a DEMON! Plant a few of these at a choke point and NOTHING will get past. Best of all the MAXs in the game. Has no equal. Nothing even comes close.)
AV: 1 (ROF, precision still very good versus infantry.)
NC: (Special ability: Protective shield.)
AA: 1 (The sparrow. Its fire and forget missiles will chase You clear into the nearest warpgate if You reach it in time.)
AI: 3 (Well Id take the Jackhammer over this anyday.)
AV: 2 (Good, balanced MAX.)
VS: (Special ability: Jump jets.)
AA: 1 (After the upgrade the Starfire stepped up from a clear third position, to share the winning spot.)
AI: 3 (It uses a beefed up beamer)
AV: 3 (This MAX has a number of problems. Slow orbs, non stacking burn damage and a waaayy too small clip. It has to reload to kill pretty much anything. If they at least doubled the clip Id place this MAX beside the NC counterpart.)
Soo Based on how I think the grunt material adds up Id say TR or NC.
I play VS.

Well in my opinion Large fighting doe snot automatically mean Large mobs. But again sadly that what the majority take it as. More tactical fighting is where its at, utilizing all aspects of the game: Grunts, Air, Tanks and Terrain.

No, he was showing his Opinion of the weapons in comparision. I do not agree with his findings either. And that's my opinion.

god dont you vanu ever stop whining. I don't get it. How was that a whine?
If You think I am way off base on the weapon comparacy, why don't You do one of Your own? I base mine on how the weapon feels in game, how successful I am with it and what tests/statistics tell me.
Take a look at this, for example: http://www.geocities.com/gezakwhitewolf/GWG.html

Zerg, from Star Craft. Yeah, same idea. Masses of troops falling all over each other in an attempt to bring submission by shear numbers.
