Disabling Foliage

I have yet to find a use for foliage. It hides mines, slows down your machine, and gets in the way of my line of sight as a sniper. It doesn't even make me any harder to see, because the enemy is to far away for the comp to render the foliage. There has to be a way to turn it off. Does anyone know how?

In video options turn flora density to off.

Yeah, i belive it is labled something like "Flora" in the advanced video tab.

Anyone hardly ever uses flora, which therefore, makes it useless for cover :(

My buddy got his new super computer and he already had cable internet, so as soon as the comp arrived he invited me over to try out PS on it. I was amazed at how beautiful the game was with all the flora, and I played with it on for about 5 minutes and kept blowing up because I couldn't see mines. It's like a whole different game, they'd need to implement mine sweepers if you couldn't turn flora off.

yea i have a "supercomputer" of my own. PS is amazing. continents load up in under 3 seconds, and, get this, there's MUSHROOMS!!!

Yeah, I cant stand playing games with shit graphics. Its too bad that people can turn off flora and unballance it for those who prefer graphics that dont look like games from 1999

I think people should either be forced to leave it on, or off. It's not quite an even playing field if you are hiding behind flora other people cannot see.

I love the flora because it just looks damn good, but it destroys my framerate. It's most noticable on oshur and solsar.

Due to having a Geforce 2 i turn Flora and Sky and Weather and etc off and i know im missing a lot having seen the skydome and flora for a few seconds before having to turn it off :( I envy the guys who can have high graphics.

Sure, they can make Flora a required feature. Just so long as they bump up the minimum requirments to a 3ghrz with 2 gigs of RAM and a Raedon 9800 Pro :p

Not that I think flora would be a bad idea, I think it could add to the game quite a bit, but I don't think it's a very realistic goal conisdering how the game runs right now.

Yeah I always figured everyone had it off but I leave mine on because I like how it looks. I love the mushrooms (yummm...hey whats that crawling up my leg...oh its grandma with a knife in her teeth...). They couldnt force people to leave it on bcause it would send all the lower end system users packing.

I dunno i guess I'll try it off but I suspect those looonnng walks and ant drives are going to get even more boring.

Flora is the dumbest thing ever. I have a 9800pro and I turn it off(the only thing that's not maxed out) because it can ruin snipers and make it harder to aim. It's generally stupid

ive got pretty good grpahics, its just my lag and connection that screw me up.

The only way im getting to play this game is due to a good communication (in ENGLAND???) and a hefty dose of RAM. So my graphics are rubbish (except infantry as they look so kool i couldnt degrade em).
Saying that im gonna get a neat Graphics card (albeit cheap but effective one)

Im not saying flora should be required, but there needs to be a middle ground. Right now its either on or off, wts?

Hamma, there IS a middle ground. You can set it low, med or high. Although the jump from off to low takes a significant frame hit.

I have shadows, flora, and weather turned off to increase my FPS. Sometimes I get shit FPS for reasons I don't know. I have 1 gig of DDR RAM and a ATI 9700 pro. I'm not sure why I get crappy FPS, except maybe because of the wireframe. I have everything either set to low, or off, and a few things are on. Sometimes I get 150 FPS outside, sometimes I get 20 FPS. Go figure.

even if everyone had to have flora turned on, it would still be mostly usless. Most of the time someone would use flora to hide from someone, the other person is to far away to renender the flora. That even happens if it is set to high. Flora is pointless, imo.

i'm in the same boat as ziegfried, GeForce 2, and therefore have to have all the spangly bits turned off....

it would be nice if it was always on for everyone though, as it'd make some of the levels come to life, having stuff to hide behind (and for others to hide behind) like in Evo Of Destruction (BF1942 MOD)

definitely make infantry warfare change for the better on some of the continents...

Oh well, back to working to earn money to upgrade to a 256MB card.... I could be here all year....

Roll on christmas im getting a good card and sound card so A: play this with spangly bits turned on and B: PLay BF1942 due to having a Via AC'97 the sound on my games is rubbish but some wont even run on it like BF1942 and Planetside for a bit.

I have a P4C800 Deluxe and I use the onboard AC'97 SoundMAX. It actually sounds better and performs better than my Audigy did in BF1942 (no cracks or pops). My friend however had some problems with his AC'97 and BF1942 which was solved by increasing the sound buffers to 500 in the game config files. He also did some of these suggestions:

Even if the enemy is close enough to render the folliage, you still stick out like a sore thumb. It would be impossible to use for hiding, even if it was forced on.

If you're going to hide use a tree or rock. Grass doesn't stop enemy rounds. Without camouflage you stick out like a sore thumb anyway. Especially those red TR uniforms. Like a bright red bullseye.:)
