View Full Version : The zerg, my god the zerg!

Yesterday, I was in a big battle on Amerish. We TR were destroying everything, then suddenly the VS show up in large numbers. We kept struggling to take the last base, but couldn't seem to push it through.

Anyway, at some point I respawn to an AMS a little south of the base with about 50 other TR. We are all rushing towards the base from the south, and a little off to the northeast, there's a steady stream of VS coming. I assume, correctly, that there's an AMS there, so I head that way, because you couldn't miss the line of VS. I get there, and realize that not ONE person actually came to inspect besides me. I managed to put 4 decimators into it before dying by all the VS spawning there.

My problem is, what the heck is my team up to? This seems to be commonplace. Nobody tries tactics, it's all about the zerg. Only ranking CRs seem to do anything about tactics. It seems that, unless the entire zerg is with me, nobody is with me.

Thats wat my outfit specialises in bashing up AMS etc and due to a small number we cant zerg.

And how comes only the VS can zerg well? A typical base fight with the NC and the TR going fine then comes a hundred VS all at once ive never seen another army zerg so effectively.

Odd, the exact same thing happened to us on Oshur last night. We had finally taken every base but one. Then just as we were finishing up the second to last last base cap and the last seemed a sure thing, VS started pouring out in droves. At one point there was about 12-15 Magriders running around the base we were defending, and most of them had gunners too which suprised the hell outta me and more importantly mauled my Lightning :p

I've never played anything but VS so I'm not sure what the difference is.
I CAN tell you that at any given point, there are CR5's broadcasting where the fighting is at and where everybody should go next. I'm not talking outfits either, They usually broadcast this as much as possible. It doesn't take long before everybody knows what we are doing where the fighting is at, and where we are going when we are done there. I've been in caravans of 3 or 4 outfits, not squads but outfits, heading to a battle.

The problem is, there never are any tactics other than Zerg. We just swarm a facility, fill it and protect it as best we can then swarm on.

I suppose that my problem is, I want a group that actually checks these things out, and deals with the issues on the battlefield. Seems that no squad is outfitted to deal with it. It's always left to the individual.

If in this game you only had one life before you had to respawn at sanct, it would give the game a whole lot more tactics, but it would make it horribaly frustrating and you would get very few kills. I would make it fun though to know that something you did to save a life or save your own actually really helped alot though. But yeah, a zerg is something very hard to fight against without a zerg of your own.

8 men against a VS zerg we held em for 15 minutes and then they moved onto the next base. Theres no stopping the VS zerg RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!

Its impossible to fight zergs as Tr and NC are usualy quite spread out but the VS only seem to attack a few key continents and then withdraw for a few days before attacking again.

I don't think that that the VS Zerg better. In both these cases you're on their home continent and pushing them back to one base. Generally these last bases are the closest one to their Sanc. You'll always have to fight tooth and nail for those bases closest to Sanctuaries.

It varies from server to server also. I didn't noticed the VS zerging on Konried. On Emerald, thats just what we do. The CR5s broadcast where the battles are at and everybody heads there until the island is full and off we go until the it's ours or the CRs pick a new island.

The problem with zerging is that nobody actually learns any real tactics. I took part in a battle for 15 minutes where the enemy had an AMS parked INSIDE the compound we were defending. I kept telling them to get it and nobody listened. I finally managed to hack and jack it on my 5th attempt. Freakin' morons.

Really? Noone checked for an AMS? Wow, thats the first thing we do whenever there is an enemy assault. Follw the bodies and you find an AMS. Simple protocol really. Guess you were just playing with the wrong people.

Nah, its a problem with the zerg. Everyone assumes someone else will get it. Enemy AMSs, ANT runs, etc.

Yeah, pretty much true. I'm not counting this things where your on the other side of the continent, and things are happening where you can't reach too quickly. But I try to do some of the things others don't seem to be doing. Fixing gens, taking tower, bringing some nuts to a base. (Yeah, I mispelled that on purpose. I love telling people in ANT's that I'm going to protect their nuts. They usually say Okay.)

Which brings up a point. I'm in a mosq, and here comes a guy in an ANT. I /L to him, "Where are you headed." I know he could read it. But instead he keeps driving. I keep /L ing to him, but he says nothing. Finally, we get to the outside walls of a base, he gets out of the ANT, outside the base. Walks to the vehicle term, and gets a MAG. I'm thinking to myself, what is this guy doing. It's only when he gets back that he /L to me that the ANT is empty. So I basically wasted 5 minutes protecting nothing. So I land my Mosq, and get into the ANT and go fill it myself. I saved 3 bases that run, where he could have done the same, and I could have given him good air cover. But no. Some people.

lol I was there for that. Yeah, you guys were kicking our asses for bout an hour (due to very small numbers). On the last base, I think it was Dahaka, I decided to recall and tell everyone I could to head to Oshur. We pwnd the cont. in a couple of hours if that. (Due to large numbers)

Why use any other tactic other than zerg right now? I know using tactics is fun, but like you said, you cant stop the zerg! There has to be a way to implement a better tactical system.

Hopefully platoons will introduce more strategic play.

Unfortunatly the zerg is here to stay in any MMO PvP game...theres no better way to insure a victory in this style of game that has no/little population controls.(atleast PS realised that population is an issue and tried to build in some benfiets to playing the low pop team...even if it isn't very effective) If you want tactics w/o joining a good outfit, MMO's are probably not the style of games you want.

The timers on MAX suits and vehicles help slow the zerg down also. You cant just die, go get a new MAX, die, get a new one, you have to run in a few times with standard gear or just wait it out.
