Well it seems to be everyone is saying Get a Radion 9800Pro and dont get a radion9800 non pro.....This is all fine but is their anything wrong with the GeforceFX5900 (256mb). I have a small delma, the computer dealer that I am buying from will only put a Radion9800 non pro which is a 128mb or a GeforceFX5900 which is a 256. I know that most of you are Radion Fans but help me out here. Tell me any info that you can on why i should get a GeforceFX5900 or why not.

bottom line. I have a radeon, have had radeon ever since my old GF3... but the fx5900 is da shitl. just look at any review... nvidia has finally gotten thier heads out of thier asses... infact with my next paycheck i plan on picking one up.
but dont get the 256mb one its not worth all the extra money. hell quite honestly its not even worth and extra 20 bucks.... it doesnt benefit the average or even hardcore gamer in anyway....

The 256 one is the only one that they offer in the package...

I'm a loyal nVidia user .. have been for many years. While the thought of a Radeon is tempting, between the two choices you have, go with the GeForce .. you won't be disappointed.
Just upgraded from a TI-4200 and the FX5900 is killer .. I have the 128mb version though. Enjoy!

FX5900 was NVidia's answer to the 9700 Pro if I'm not mistaken, right?

no the 5900 was just the next step, to beat the 9800 i guess, and it does!

The 5900 does not "beat" the 9800 Pro. I'm not saying the 9800 Pro beats the 5900 either. Both cards are the best out right now, have excellent drivers, and can out perform the other depending on platform and benchmark cheats (I mean optimizations).
As far as planetside goes, its a toss up. As for games soon to come such as HL2 I think it will perform better on Ati. But Stalker is very likely to be better on NV. DM3 is going to be flakey and do 25 fps if your lucky on either.
I prefer the ATI camp b/c the product cycle is much more reliable. They meet their release dates. The r360 will be out before to long and NV will still be at the drawing board. The r400 will be out and ppl will be lucky if there is test silicon even ready for the next NV board.
But as far as your two choices, the 5900/256 is clearly better than a 9800 NP. So if performance is worth the money to you, get it ofcourse.

I suggest you DO get the 256 because in the near future it will help, and then youll have it right away. If you dont, then youll almost have 2 upgrade to it sooner or later

the radeon 9800 non pro is alot cheaper than either card, and it can be OCed to practically match them. the 5900 ultra and the 9800 pro however are about on par with eachother. they are both awesome top of the line cards right now and you cant go wrong with either one.
i went with the 9800 non pro though, its only 250 bucks, and I have OCed it to speeds even faster than the 9800 pro

Nothingis wrong with geforce i guess i went with it cos a 256mb 5600 (yes im not super rich and cannot afford monster cards) is way way way cheaper than the equivilent radeon and perfroms just as well with patched 3D-mark to get rid of optimaization plus mine came with a 3 games plus an ok demo disk :D also it runs planetside beutifully now I have an athlon 2600 on an MSI nforce 2 board and MSI geforceFX 5600 256mb it runs brill with a bit of help fiddiling with things in planetside config

256 adds so little difference in games. For now there's no point. Until late 2004 or 2005 games won't even really notice a difference more than 1-5 FPS. And by then there'll be better cards.
GJ getting the card. It's what I have in my box and I love it.

I love my FX 5600, 256 mb card, got a great deal on it to, but it didn't come with very good cooling so it kept overheating fixed the problem with a thermaltake giant2 and now i have it OCed insane, its awsome.
Also if you get the less powerfull card like a FX 5600 the 256 of memory helps, at least thats what i have heard

if you want to read about all the issues nvidia's been having, me sputty and a few others have a thread or 2 debating the subject in detail over on the BOHICA forums
but just incase, here's a good article that covers pretty much everything: http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1863
that's not the news item that was posted earlier, but rather the full indepth article

Went from 1-2 fps in large battles with minimal graphics settings to about 20-30 in large battles with medium graphics settings...
Upgraded from my old overclocked GeForce2 MX 400 / 64MB PCI card to a stock Xtasy 9100 128mb PCI card
This card rocks!!! Even straight out of the box... (didn't mean that to rhyme, but it did...)
Man, the difference is like night and day! And the textures are even more detailed than before as well...
Not only is it faster, it is prettier too!
Cool thing is, you can get this card from www.tigerdirect.com for $49 ($69 with $20 rebate)
P1.8 Celeron
512MB PC2100
Xtasy 9100 / 128MB card

Pretty darn good ones to boot... give a few AGP cards a run for their money!!
PCI isn't dead... it may be falling behind, but it ain't dead...
In fact they are coming out with a new PCI slot or something I think even, supposed to beat out AGP now?? Extreme PCI or something like that?

Hit shift and .
It brings up a little box in the lower left corner...
True PCI is antequated... but for the budget minded people (like me) that can get a decent computer set up for under $600 (including monitor) and crank out a fairly consistant 30fps in Planetside at medium graphic levels... that is nothing to sneeze at...
