View Full Version : Anyone remember this tactic?

I posted this in the Pounder thread, but I thought I'd make another thread and see if anyone remembers it or know who the outfit was that did this. This was back in the early days before Lattice links and such things.

I remember not long after the game came out, there was an outfit of TR on Markov that would end the night by hitting the bio-lab on Amerish near the Vanu gate. They had a full squad of 10 Pounders backed up by Engineers and Medics.

Their tactic was to enter the base while it was lightly defended. Go to the CC and start the hack. The Pounders would of course anchor out of direct sight of the two doors. As soon as a door opens (five Pounders covering each door) they all open up at once and spam the door until everything is dead and then switch to alt fire to spam down the hallway before the door closes.

They would do this until they got low on ammo and then they would all move out and take control of the spawn room, hack terminals, rearm and repair and then move into the room behind the spawn room and hide. (For some reason nobody would check that room in the early days.)

They would stay there waiting for the Vanu to resecure the base(killing anyone unlucky enough to stumble across their hiding spot) and then do it all over again. God that was annoying. It was genius and worked like a charm. Haven't seen it happen in a long time though.

These guys were good and had some excellent control and team work. I've never seen anyone work that well since. If I'm not mistaken it was usually every Monday night really late.

Indeed, that is a very well organized squad. Sounds like a good idea! Youd think someone woulda caught on eventually...

Ive had a terrible time on the reciveing end of pounders. I think, from an NC point of view at least, that they are one of the most valuable max's in the game. 10 maxes guarding two entrances isn't genius, its teamwork. Anyone can stick a bunch of max's in a place to defend, but few are able to control the lot into becoming one unit. This is why communication between members of squads and outfits is so important. Any one of you could do this if you had a diciplined group to do it with. The hard part is just that, getting 10 people to coordinate 1 defence/offence as a unit. Things like this can be done with infantry and different tactics.

On the non-pro communication side. This idea rocks, I hate pounders when they pound me, and 5 of them could take out a single infantry in seconds. Its still not to difficult to defend against, just place some boomers in the rooms before you leave that certain base, it should take out a good few of the maxs.

Well, we did eventually catch on, but you constantly had a bunch of new players showing up and they would just feed the beast. The Vanu would get an AMS in the courtyard to prevent the base from draining too heavily and you'd just see nothing but dead purple packs littering the doorway and hall. Those Pounders would rack up kills faster than you can blink.

Standard armor with surge and packing a Decimator wasn't even enough to get you thru the door. Thumpers were useless, because someone had to get near the door to open it and of course the Pounders would just switch to alt fire and bounce grenades down the hall at you. You could join in the slaughter and not see a single dead TR name pop up.

They would basically do it until they got tired and went home or the facility went dry. It was purely to rack up kills and annoy the hell out of the Vanu. LOL:D

Yeah, pounders are great maxs, i have one on emerald. The only prob is the indirect fire, which makes them easy targets outside. Inside though, i believe they will clear out anything in theyre way.
