I don't think anyone is saying that Mr. Cash's life was more important than anyone else's, just that he touched many people's lives. I found his music to be quite deep and involved, and often spoke across time, and of his vast life experience. I wouldn't have picked his life over an african's, but I have more knowledge and connection with him.

If your father died, would you go to his funeral? Was your father a more important human being than anyone else?

Then why would you go to your father's funeral and not every other funeral. Why make it a point to mourn your father?

Why? Because your father touched your life significantly. Johnny Cash touched the lives of many Americans in a significant way. The random Africans you brought up did not. It has nothing to do with one life being more valulable than another. I has to do with the effect someone has on your life.

If Nelson Mandella died tommorow, I am sure he would get his own thread.

fine since no one else will do it, I'll be the asshole. the Original man in black did more for me than any starving, struggling person in africa ever did. Johnny cash was a legend looked up to by millions of fans and an inspiration to many songwriters/artists. certianly more than any one did in africa recently that had any remote bearing on my life...

dont know anyone in africa, nor do i care. people are dying all the time EVERYWHERE. i could give a shit. but john ritter and johnny cash touched millions of lives in a positive way. great so 20 more people probally just died in africa....and nothings changed... two great legends passed away and we just lost a great comedian and an outstanding songwriter.. something changed.... hmm..
