View Full Version : CC = Bland?

I would just like to share some first impressions I've had of CC - impressions formed solely from the screen shots, concept art, and what SOE is saying about the game.
I think it looks pretty bland. There will be indoor / close quarters fighting; well great, but I don't enjoy fighting indoors right now. What I really really love about PS is the beautiful outdoor scenery we get to fight in: the swamps of Hossin, the forests of Foresal, the rolling hills and north American style of Amerish, the Volcano of Searhus, and so on. CC seems to just be dark, grey, underground caverns.
The experience of fighting under the forest canopy of, say, Hossin, with Reavers hovering low overhead, bumping into enemy troop formations at just 100m you didn't even know were there, tanks zooming in and out seemingly from nowhere, is just awesome.
Why would I want to exchange that for some caverns and tunnels?

i think u fruits need to go play under the rainbows and butterflies somewhere else.... planetside is obviously not for u if the first thing u notice is the "beautiful scenery." as hamma once said: its an FPS, you kill people, you blow shit up... what more "content" do you need?

But I wanna kill the butterflies! I wanna destroy the Rainbows!
It is nice to kill people in a beautiful setting, don't you think?

Which is exactly why DOOM is still being played online by millions of people 24/7!!! I mean, WHAT MORE CONTENT DOES A GAME NEED IF ITS AN FPS?!?!?

And why that idiotic Half-Life is still being played by over 40000 people every hour.

He's got you on that one, Hammer
Now then to the matter at hand. Why not at least wait until the expansion comes out before you start complaining about it?

... Have you ever SEEN a real cave? They tend to look that way. Something about being made entirely of rock tends to limit the color pallete.. heh

Yeah, hitting friendlys is a real hazard when using the pounder indoors. ;)

I'm not sure what bearing that should have on a game set in a non-existent fantasy world. I actually agree that the screenshots I've seen thus far underwhelmed me significantly with the caves. It looks like a very uninspired area done quickly. I'm hoping those are early screens and that changes have been made since then, but only time will tell. With the obvious 'crystal' theme they're hanging on to they have an opportunity to use quite a few colors and a lot of cool lighting, I just hope that there's a lot more than what we've seen so far which is probably a pretty good bet.
Yeah, most of those rock formations looked like quake1 engine crap. Here's hoping they at least improve the textures if they can't do anything about the ghetto poly counts.

They promised us ice caverns and other things that I can't remember. All I remember was it put me in mind of underground places in a Tolkein novel, that's what I want it to be like.

Half-life... idiotic?...
I think you better revise your version of what a good game is dude...
As for CC, i agree with the fact that, in real life - today - CQB is hard because weapons and 'armor' are at a certain level. In a futur setting, with 10 times more destruction with a single round of any weapon, nothing will stay alive more then 10 secondes.
BUT, we are not talking corridors here... but rather 'indoor parcs' and stuff like that.
I do have to agree that the damn shotgun is VERY powerful, and Indoor, everyone will be using it.
