Yes, the old folks here (18+) make thier own money, and run thier games on high-end, pricey gaming rigs that us small children (17-) can only dream of. So, the purpose of this thread is to tell what you have in your box, and how fast your frames go.

Initially, the moneymaker of the household purchased an eMachine, which, at the time, was fine for me, because I wasnt a gamer, at all. However, since I started playing Morrowind, I've been subtley tricking it out with whatever scant coins I can collect around the house.

Setup:
eMachines Proprietary Keyboard(sucks), Speakers(blown) and Monitor(max refresh of 60Hz)
Logitech Optical Mouse (best bang for the $$)
640 Megs of DDR RAM (plugged an additional 512 into the 128 I had.)
40GB HDD (almost full)
1.7 GHz Celeron
7500 RADEON (Hey, for 80 bucks, and it being PCI, I'm pleased)

FPS During Inactive periods: 20-30
FPS During large battles: 5-11

So....Painful....

Athlon XP 2600
New MOBO MSI nvidia nforce 2 with tweaked bios you just gotta do it :D
MSI Geforce FX 5600 256mb (i can't afford 5900 or 9800 or I would)

My stats are down there, its good at 20 FPS min and max of 75 ihs in sanc, unless its a huge battle and i start getting in the think of things it runs nice and smooth, or i am on a basalisk going though that type of action. The patch made it run at a max of 55 and it can bottoms out at .2 . But i am getting a New Presscott P5 3.0 or 3.2 on feb the 16 or so when the prices drop ( imagine a 2.8 ghz P5/P4 both for $178!) and A GB of CL2 Kingston hyperX DDR 400

Parts w/ monitor and speakers and case would cost about 1000 or so and thats good bamng fot the buck (This is with a p4/p5 not the crapy ass celleron)

yea u cant have the althon 3000+ w/ a NF3. Ok Let me make this simple NF3 is a althon64 chipset ONLY!!! so you hafta learn about the different CPU and different pin counts and speed i reccomend www.tomshardware.com and www.anandtech.com . Im not trying to rain on your parade but its true

so its not an N-force 3 chipset just NF3 is just then name of the comp? becuase i though NF3 was only avilible in the opteron and new Athlon 64's, the XP shouldn't be able to fit in a chipset the NForce 3 they use a different socket

PS: the 64's use differnt sockets one for the FX51 and one for the 3200(or 3000 can't remember)+

I would wait for a P5 or the P4 EE 3.6 ghz if you can the 3.6 ghz beat the 64 FX-52 (the high end one) in almost all of THG's test the 3.2 ghz P4EE beat it 32 times in THG's bemchmarks The FX won only 15 times, and both P4 EE and P5 use the 800mhz FSB intel chipsets that are already in most new MB's. They will get REALY cheap in the middle of febuary also , my eye is on the P5 3.2 ghz for 280 ish.

Technically its an Nforce 2 i believe...I never said nforce 3 i said NF3, read the fineprint

Edit: i think i will upgrade, i need a new comp because the one at my moms house really BLOWS...id rather pay more money than wait an extra 2-3 months...thanks for advice though

The older machine kind of sucks. I let my Girl Play on that one. I run the server machine as the admin for the Home network. I purchased that machine just resently. The older machine holds up well until you get a 150 peeps zerg going then lag city. Or she opens up full auto on the harraser.

Machine one(older)
HP(not a bad machine, bought before i could build them)
intel P4 1.5 ghz
Not sure about the motherboard(propriotory info)
384 Meg of Ram(2 64 and 2 128, has to be doubled to work)
Nvidea Geforce 4 ti 4200 128 Meg
10/100 NIC card for high speed cable moden
Sound Blaster Audigy 2(couldn't afford the platinum and this one is great on sound)
17"veiwable CRT
Cordless mouse
60 Gig 5200 rpm hard drive/20 Gig 5200 rpm back up drive
48/16/8 CDRW
16 DVD Rom
3.5 Floppy

Machine Two(My big bitch)
No Name brand, custom built
Server Case(A lot of bays)
3 Quad Color LED Fans to pull air off Board/1 intake fan
400 Watt Power Supply
AMD xp 2800+, barton Core/512 cache up to 400mhz
ASUS 7050 pro(believe can't remimber the number now) with 400 mhz frontside bus/Nvidea N-force 2 north and South Bridge chipsets/with Onboard Soundstorm audio
512 Meg of Corsair High preformance Ram with heat dispersion/333mhz
Nvidea GeForce 4 TI 4600 128 Meg
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Logitech 5.1 sound
Microsoft Smart Ball/trackball
17" viewable LCD Flatscreen
80 Gig 7600 rpm(i believe get mixed up with the higher speed)
52/16/8 CDRW
16 DVD
3.5 Floppy
NIC card for high speed cable modem

About all I can think about for now.
As for frame rates don't know haven't checked in a while.
With mine about a week ago at a base under light fire in the gen room with gen running had 75 fps. Do get lagged out at the big battles though.

If your gonna spend the 2 grand on an AMD system get the 64 or FX. Otherwise spend the 1 grand or less on a good XP system.

As for the new Prescots, they are going to have the same problem as FX's. The first release of the chip is totally incompatible with current 800mhz boards b/c of pinouts and they are also changing this right after to someting else - not sure if the 2nd release will be compatible with current boards or not. So neither side have very good upgrade paths on their new chips.

I played rather well on a p3 1ghz / radeon 8500/64 all during beta of PS. Its all about the eye candy and system tweaks, and ram.

The first prescott's will be on the 800mhz P4 chipset. They have the same pin count an socket, the new MB formfaxtor pcExpress and new pin thing are goin to be out early 2k5 .

The prescott will run on my Asus P4P800 Deluxe it says so on the Webpage

When the Prescott was annouced originally there was not going to be any compatibility with current i865/875 mb's. Now its a guessing game if the chip will work with older mb's. This article and prolly something new up on Anand's covers it.
