View Full Version : Halo: Worst Game Ever?

Someone convince me why this game is causing so much hype in the younger crowd. I've surfed the webpages and even played a bit of it on the xbox. I wasn't particularly impressed with anything it had to offer.

Multiplayer Halo the Planetside killer? You've got to be kidding me. The official websites states that the MP maps can't handle more than 16 players. Didn't Doom 2 accomodate 16 of us, more than eight years ago?

I *must* be missing something. BF1942 > Halo.
Planetside > WW2OL. What's next?

ughh no, doom supported 4, there is a mod however that makes it support 16

and here is a link, why gamespy thinks halo is over hyped, and i agree with them

http://www.gamespy.com/articles/september03/25overrated/index17.shtml

in the list they tear apart Morrowind, MGS:SOL, which IMO sucked, and FF7, though, FF7, the only said, well, there are FFs they liked more, and i can agree there, FF6 owns 7

Halo broke a lot of ground, and almost single-handedly launched the xbox. It has provided untold happy hours of gameplay and introduced elements of style into new shooters. It earned its place among the classics.

PlanetSide and Halo are two different genres, and can't be compared accurately. Halo for PC won't kill PlanetSide, and PlanetSide won't kill it. Next-generation shooters like Chrome, Breed, Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 may kill Halo for PC, but only a sufficiently advanced mmocg will kill PlanetSide, and that's not going to be any time soon.

That is all.

Halo is great for ppl who cant afford good enuff comps to run PS, but can get an xbox. I think its one of the best games there is on the xbox personally, that and red faction 2 and unreal tournament 2003. I play it because at my dads house i got a pretty killer comp but at my moms its a piece of shit so i play xbox instead.

There are a lot of reasons people like Halo.
I HATE BF1942 but I love Halo. I can play it all day. I have played it all day before.

Halo is different from every other shooter I've ever played before. 1. No bosses, there are just the regular infantry types. Some are harder than others but for the most part it's just different equipment and AI.
2.Weaponry, unlike many FPS games, Halo doesn't have 15 types of guns. It has several different kinds and all are useful. I've played many FPS games where there are several guns that nobody uses unless they have to. Also, you can only carry 2 meaning you have to decide what you will need and actually use strategy rather than choosing one of the 30 weapons you are equipped with.
3. Vehicles. I know other FPS games include vehicles also but Halo seems to have done it best. They are fun and useful to drive, but aren't so powerful that you are invulnerable in them. Things really get good in multiplayer. My friends and I actually have a demo derby mode built. The warthogs are indestructible but you get some pretty impressive crashes.
4. Humor. The game is hilarous, especially the grunts. I would guess they say hundreds of things but I really have no idea how many things there are. I bought the game at release and my roomie and I are STILL hearing new things from them.
5. Huge levels. Some of the levels are absolutely massive and can take hours to play through.
6. Huge battles. Nothing like having a large open area with 30+ creatures to fight using vehicles, turrets and whatever else you can get your hands on.
7. Randomness. The game plays through differently EVERY time. I can name a LOT of FPS games, even ones that have come out since Halo that are a lot more static. The people stand in place or walk a set path. They all attack as soon as they notice you. In Halo, they'll walk different paths, I've seen elites stop and talk to grunts. I am dead serious. If you follow and they don't notice you, they will deviate from their path and start talking and laughing. Restart from last save and the next time they wont do it. Elites will retreat to regain shields, units will lose their nerve and run, then regroup. They will run off to tell their friends and they'll lose it and go berserk on you.
8. Simplicity. Halo does all this, and yet it remains very simple. You can perform many if not all the actions available to you in the big PC FPS games with less than half the buttons

Hmm. I'm going to side with the Xbox explanation. That seems to make sense.

I think its a very 'small' game to be in competition with the PC big boys.

Hate X-box. Hate X-box Controller. Hate FPSs on consoles.
/shrug

Worst game ever? No, definately not. I've played some really shitty games in my time. But is it a great game? Meh I've played it for a few hours with some friends a few different times and wasn't really impressed. But then again like I said I hate the X-Box, hate it's shitty oversized controller and really hate FPSs on consoles /shrug

yes but halo was so good it didnt bother me that it was a console. and like they said I don't see how anyone could call it a Planetside killer. Planetside will kill itself. other than that I think I'll stop, i love halo so there's no point in me babbling on about it...

Personal preference I guess.
I haven't liked any FPS on PC other than Planetside since Doom.
I love the X-box. It's my favorite system. I got a PS 2 last december and sold it in February.

They have Halo 2 to compete with the big boys.

Honestly I might pick up Halo for the PC.

It is by far the best FPS I have played in a long time and I never got to use it's multiplayer abilities to their fullest on my Xbox.

Nope. Played Golden Eye quite a bit at the incessant urging of friends. Hated Golden eye for the most part. Multiplayer where you can see the other persons screen is kinda dumb imo ;) Wasn't a big fan of the Japanese sex toy of a controller for the N64 either :p

i hated the n64, there were a few good games, but thats it. StarFox, Zelda, only the first one, perfect dark, Shadows of the empire, not much besides that that i can think of on the top of my head.

also, Golden eye, IMO of course, sucks, i dont care, even if perfect dark and golden eye played almost exactly the same, the few changes in Perfect dark made it much better.

Golden Eye on N64 was the shit. I played that game like clockwork during it's hayday and even competed (and did pretty damn good) in lots of tournaments. That was the best FPS i've ever played on console, with Socom coming in 2nd

There are 2 shooters coming out in the next 2 months that will define online shooting games for the next few years. Halo PC is one of them, Counterstrike: Condition-Zero being the other :D

**EDIT** By saying Halo is the worst game ever, I hope you aren't implying that PlanetSide is better?

did you notice the question mark at the end of the thread name? hes asking if its the worst game ever, and thats a over statment, all hes asking, is will it be a bad game. and yes, i think so, unless its 64 player online, and not 16. but offline, is exacly the same as offline in the xbox version.

Halo was/is the best FPS ever made. Period.

Why? Because it focused on SKILL. A 4v4 game of CTF Blood Gulch between 2 skilled teams is one of the most intense gaming experiences you will EVER have.

Quick reflexes (pulling that trigger in the split second the enemy pops up), spatial awareness (running backwards firing round after round while working your way to a vehicle you KNOW is there but to turn around is suicide), conservation of ammo (reloading is death against a skilled enemy), situational awareness (your friend just popped an enemy, that means you have 6 seconds before he respawns.. better move.. NOW).

A duel between 2 skilled Halo players is like ballet. It takes just as much (if not more) coordination, reflexes, and plain-old skill as Tribes. It makes playing PlanetSide look like a game of 'Go Fish' in comparison.

Anyone that has played and has skills knows what i'm talking about. Anyone who played it and go their ass beat or who whines:

"Wah, I hate Microsoft"
"Wah, I hate consoles"
"Wah, I hate the controller, my pussy hands can't hold it"

... just doesn't understand.

Halo > all

Why? Because I said so.

the randomness was great in halo. i remember when i had to get into the fortress and there was the big blue guys and those planes and hover dealies and a huge covered ditch thing. so i hid in the ditch shooting down the planes. i let my shields heal up. then i popped out w/ a rocket launcher and destroyed the tank (this took a few tries) then i fought my way up

or that time when me and a bud were crusing in a warthog... trying to gun down some blues(multiplayer) and one of em was hiding at hte bottom of the hill we were about to jump and shot us with a rocket and blew us sky high as we jumped over him... yea... we died... but at the same time that fucking pwnd.....

wow thats exactly what i though... i cant stand console fanboys. Each has its own highs and lows. Most fanboyism is just jealousy/lust anyways.

I think the real question is, should you be shot for asking if Halo is bad? Halo was one of the best FPS games ever. I'm not saying its the absolute best, but it did make for lots of fun.

Hey, Happy Li'l Elf? Are you like 5 years old? Can't handle a big boy controller, huh? And don't knock consoles. Any of you. Except for maybe Sega Saturn or Dreamcast, consoles are great. My faithful PS1 stood by me when I had to save up for a new vid card to play C&C Generals.

Ok, my input:
Consoles have their place (never have to upgrade or worry about viruses or anything)
X-Box controllers (the big ones) rock, nuff' said.
Halo was excellent, Halo 2 will be excellent
Don't go to consoles expecting multiplayer, they generally (with exception to x-box live wich unfortunatley costs money) suck.
