I have noticed some words liek recruit are highlighted and are now links to some site...

Some website said "Do you want to install bla bla" and you or someone did it. It is spyware and it highlights key words and makes them advertising links. This is usually in the form of some kind of browser addon like Hotbar.

Well yes was pressed at sometime :) I have not heard of any that can get installed without the user doing something to help it even without a firewall.

How to get rid of it, need more details. Like press Ctrl - Alt - Del and list what is running. They are all different so you need to investigate as to what is doing it and then you can find a fix.
