View Full Version : Core Combat - a 'two-tiered' situation ?

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone else has already posted about this, but I'm currently not planning to buy CC until I'm sure I'll play this game for more than a few more months.

My worry is that Core Combat might produce a two-tiered game, where those of us who choose not to buy the expansion will be grossly underpowered compared to opponents who have access to the new weaponry / vehicles etc. Has there been any press release by the devs commenting on this possible situation, or does anyone know if balancing / weighting tests have been performed to try to ensure that those choosing not to buy the expansion aren't left totally screwed ?

On the cynical side, do the devs care ? Are they hoping to strong-arm people into buying the expansion by purposefully giving us no chance against enhanced enemies ?

Your thoughts ?

Each side will have its own roughly equal share of CC users, so it's not overpowering.

Also, none of the new items look overpowered. Show a deployed Switchie a Decimator, and it's dead.
Router, eh, neat but I see the pads becoming a huge target of Aircraft.

Flail, same as above. "Hit me Aircraft! I don't move!"

People get killed with weapons they can't use on a daily basis, whether it's because they don't have enough certs for it or because it's restricted to an enemy empire. Core Combat won't change that aspect at all.

Will it anger people? Doubtful. Those who get angered but don't quit will most likely buy the expansion and become happy. Those who would quit have probably already done so for other reasons, I reckon.

All in all, an expansion pack this quick seems like a pretty good idea. I for one consider it quite a privilege to get new content so quickly, considering I've already gotten more playtime out of PS than many, many other titles.

Then why post here?

I agree, the 30 dollars is worth not DLing 10 hours of stuff.

personally, im against core combat, i like the new guns and tanks and stuff, but what happens if everyone1 oes under ground, what will happen to all the people who dont ahve core? whats the point of more battlefield if not that many ppl are even playing?

Apearantly the core is not suposed to be a huge part of the game, there are only 3 caverns, one on a vs home cont ont on a TR and one on a NC, i bet they will have a small pop limit and it seem smore like they are ther for missions not for fullscale war, look at the pics, it seems that the best way to get around is on foot, and even then it looks then its treachrous(SP?).

the reson they have core combat is for the llu process. it was so if a person has the llu and core combat they can go thru the cavern 2 get 2 the base they need 2 to deliver the llu. it is also where u can find the outfit owned base upgrade modlue things.

this should be like everquest.

expansion every 6 months, new theme every time. if you look at the NC flash thing for core combat, it gives hints for a space expansion. neato.
