Regurgitated Alpha Software.
Seems like PS got canned 2ish years ago along with the forum (the one that attracted me), got cancelled, and brough back from the dead using alpha textures and beta code, and is now being used as a cashcow to fund EQ2.
This game has no hope of becoming what it once was going to be. It's a hollowed, empty relic of a game.
This game became, what seems like, a sad excuse for a first person shooter gone massive. IMHO, the 2 main things that went wrong in the beginning were:
1. There was more Incentive to attack than Defend, which lead to there being little to no incentive to defend except to basically play the game. In my own personal opinion, there should be more incentive to defend, that way your motivation TO attack is TO defend. Defense should have had the most bonus because your supposed to be fighting for territory....which means you want to attack, to defend your land. The current game has an absurdly rudimentary and hollw form of that.
2. XP crunching with little reward in regards to player experience earned in relation to rewards gained: I'm not talking magical mystical powers or ub3r armor, but even small, minor additions that you could choose from like varied armor platings of a set empire style (hence the already color changing hotwheels armor), the ability to customize certain vehicles in relation to your stats, or simply more than a new weapon @ the end of the day. It's not a fantasy RPG but for petes sake, your gonna make an RPG element, dont do it 1/2assed.
Aside from those Core Combat also urks me. Isnt that stuff in core combat things that we've been promised since beta? I think so, alot of it anyway. Then they dribble out patches with minute amounts of additions and making the major brunt of patches fixes to their own problems. I've tried to always think of my $13 a month as server uprgades and funtionality. I try not to think that I'm paying for them to fix broken/post-beta software since other companies do that sort of thing for free. But when suddenly after months of paid beta testing I have to buy the features I was promised months prior to beta testing for $30-50. I'm just like wtf.
Oh yeah, besides that those core combat screenshots look like something that was made in a 1/2 life or quake engine from years ago. Hardly any depth to the environment, just polygonal extruded faces that are supposed to be "caves".
I dunno, I'm just a disgruntled consumer who felt like voicing his thoughts. After 3 years I almost feel guilty about leaving, then I thought about it again and didn't. Maybe in 2 more years, they will get this game to where it was supposed to be/look/play and I will play the game again. :D
