Shacknews HACKED! 9:01am PST

Shacknews was hacked this morning. The page has a huge shacknews icon with the text "F5 For Life" on the bottom, upon viewing the source you can see that a nice little message was left by the hacker.

Visit www.shacknews.com to see for yourself. I'm guessing it will most likely be taken offline/fixed within the hour.

It's actually a skin called "Community" that comes with StyleXP. Doesn't look like a Mac to me :lol:

I would guess either to "teach shacknews a lesson" to secure their network.

Or "because they can" or "for the challange."

I guess you could say the same thing about why do people key other people's cars, why do they put sugar in your gas tank, etc etc...

I doubt there is damage, hard to say however. Hacking an index page isnt all that difficult. I doubt they would hack the database as well. And if they do, shacknews should have a backup - unless they are stupid.

I'm guessing he hacked the databases as well based on his secret message in the source, but as Hamma said, everyone backups everything, or they're stupid.

Looks like the new design went over pretty well for the most part. Sure there are your usual complaints but hell there would be people annoyed if we had just changed the color scheme. Since most of you never go in to the comment section, the new design was done by Shack regular haiku, integrated with all the custom Shack code by me and Sander went out of his way to help us get it working for the comments. As I said, we'll be tweaking various parts of the site for a few days.
