Keep your mind sealed as tight as possible, make sure you don't experience anything new. Keep your interests in that one tiny little area of the world and become a statistic in why the world hates America so much. In Japan do you think people say "You like American stuff? Wow you suck. American stuff is so stupid."? Well for one I really wouldn't blame them if they did. American TV truly IS trash. But that is besides the point that at least they don't criticize another culture's artwork because it is different than theirs. It sickens me to see just how much arrogance there is within people who say something is "stupid shit" because it is different than what they are used to. There is a whole world out there of different culture. Explore it, or leave it alone. But when you start to insult the different cultures due to their being different, it makes you look ARROGANT.

Either get some variety in the culture you have been exposed to, or don't say anything. If the Japanese or any other culture is just not for you, then leave it at that. I don't care if you don't like anime, but when you say "anime sucks" or something to the same effect, you're just proving that you are a prime example of an arrogant American.

By the way...

I really don't see how anime characters look North American. The big eyes? I don't believe there are any people on earth with eyes that big in real life. It's just the drawing style the animators use. Nothing more.

I personally dislike anime because I don't like the cheesy plots in most. The animation style itself is kind of romantic, (not as in OMG OMG :love: 2U LETS CYBAR!!,) but as in exaggerations, slowing down to show off moves, flashes, 1 guy taking down 100 bad guys, etc. I prefer more realism. And the vast majority of anime shown off in the US is watered-down crap, but the masses love it, so it creates a huge fanbase which dissaudes me.

But worst of all, at least in my friends, it starts a more or less assimilation of your own native culture. Whatever is Japanese becomes 1337.

By the other side, in Japan, whatever is American is 1337.

People need to have some respect for their country.

You don't get the plots because many are very involved and you actually have to start at the BEGINNING OF THE SERIES other then mindless shit.

Maybe in cheep, "ameri-washed" animes the plot is cheesy *cough DBZ cough* but real anime has the deepest plots of any cartoon and rivals some movies/serious shows.

Not all anime is romantic like that, but I can't blame you because you probably have seen very much. Why is anime a cartoon?

Anime is "cartoon" (I hate that word) because things that happen in them, and the characters themselves can often not be portrayed irl.

You are correct that the vast majority of anime shown off in the US is watered down crap, and kiddy masses often love it, but not serious anime lovers. Why do you think they (for the most part) prefer subbed anime over dubbed?

Slowing down to show off moves? I think I know what you mean, but anime isn't american and shouldnt be. The culture of Japan expressed in anime is exiting to me, and anime tear drops etc. make it more-so.

Neon Genesis Evangelion has a kickass plot. The whole giant robots/only 14-year-old pilots/Asuka taking down like 30 of those white Evas (albeit temporarily) kinda turns me off.

Actually Eva 02 taking down the MPS evas (mass production series) is quite realistic when you look at the plot. Asuka has an AT field, the MPS evas do not. I could go into a really crazy explanation why the MPS evas don't have AT fields and even what AT fields are but that'd be impossible to do..

In as short a way as possible, AT fields are the barrier of the soul that nothing can pass. Eva 02 used that field as a shield (in a literal sense) and took on the non AT field evas with ease. The MPS didn't have AT fields because they didn't have souls, they were just the dummy plug system with kaworu's thought patterns in them.

Again, if you just saw death and rebirth and end of evangelion, then you're going to be so in the dark that I doubt anyone could enjoy it. Evangelion is a series you have to seriously think about in order to understand.

Oh yeah and Evas aren't giant robots. They're clones of Adam. So you could say they are giant humans covered with armor. And the pilot is their soul. There are theories around that if there is a soul in people, it's in the spinal cord. And where do the plugs with the pilots get put into? The spinal cord area..

Yeah I'm going off on evangelion now.. Anyway, all of those things you mentioned, 14 year old pilots and all, have a very good explanation behind them. Evangelion in no way loses plot integrity due to those facts.

It's a prime example of not judging a book by its cover.

So we put anime characters in our sigs. Is that any worse than putting planetside stuff in sigs? If your sig has a planetside theme then won't that put you in a similar category as those "anime freaks"? Or maybe a sports team of some form? Just because something is in our sigs doesn't mean we are "ugly guys wearing hello kitty t-shirts"

I'll watch a series and like one of the characters, so i'll make a sig based on them.

Bebop is great only because it was one of my frist animes. My real first was Outalw Star. while not a great anime, its decent. but since it was my first, there'll always be a place for it in my heart. right next to my frist comp game.

I HIGHLY suggest you give bebop a try, (watch at least 2 episodes) and if you dont like it, you lost 30-60 min.
