Read the whole thing... I'll give you a pass if you didn't but this jag-off was walking around in a Hitler shirt yelling Heil Hitler at people. The Dog doing the Salute is a little cute, don't get me wrong. But what you said was that this Nazi jag-off should be rewarded. That is just ignorant.

Ironic in the sense that nazis were out to opress everyone, and yet, Germany, in a very limited sense, is doing just that by preventing him from expressing his political views.

(And before anyone accuses me of being a nazi, because there's always an ignorant moron in every croud who only takes statements at face value, I do not support Nazis, Hitler, or mass genocide. I am simply stating that what Germany is doing is hypocritical.)

I agree that if this guy had done this as a satirical slam on Hitler that would be fine, and I'd line up with you to pin the rewards on his chest. But he didn't. He did it as an honor.

So our disagreement is purely one of symantics and intent. Upon reading this article I saw a NAzi muffon head and you saw a guy making fun of Hitler.

So I understand what you were saying, just disagree with you given the context of the article in question.

As to anti-nazi laws in Germany... Sometimes I think these go to far ie. no games with nazis in them and such, but for the most part you gotta understand where the country is comming from!

The point of WW2 was not to protect freedom of speech, just look at who fought the war (ie Stalin). WW2 was fought to prevent Nazi conquest of Euroupe, and the current German legislation is formed to prevent recurrent themes of anti-semitism, and nazi propaganda from re-arising and repeating their past. It's prudent.

I ask you-

What's the point of remembering history, if we refuse to use and apply that knowledge to prevent making the same mistakes? Two names for the same thing. If the Nazis had conquored Europe, it would have only been a matter of time until the rest of the world fell. It was a miracle the Allies even won that war.

The point I was trying to get across is that if the Nazis had won Europe, it would be a dictatorship of the scale the world has never seen. There would be no free sppech. But it's ironic in the sense that because of history, one particular group is prevented from voicing their opinions. I was planning on thinking up an anology in the US, but I'm not patient enough to tonight.

I agree that you should not be able to persecute people because of their religion, and that any group that tries to should be stopped at all costs, but where do you draw the line between preventing a future disaster, and obscuring the rights to an opinion?

Just some food for thought. Nice discussion. :)

Now if they couldn't remember because of certain laws they would lose their hand from sticking in the fire too many times. See thats why we need to look back and get stronger from what we were.

I think something is happening to me. My whole thought and speech process is exceeding that of the average person (you're not the only one, don't feel bad).

Case A: Whilst rowing yesterday, I told our coxswain that I was recieving contradictory orders. The 8th grader didn't know what that meant.

Case B: Today on retreat, a similar breakdown was experienced with our peer minister, who was a white guy who spoke pretty much mostly ebonics.

Case C: People don't realize that the Buddy Jesus pic is offensive to Christians.

Soon I'll have to get a translator...

Look, no one likes a self righteous Christian, and some Christians are always looking for reasons to be offended. Jesus was cool man. He hung out in bars and with hookers. He wasn't easily offended and didn't pass judgement. You gotta mellow out man. It's impossible to sway someone's opinion when you're attacking them.

I know what I'm talking about. Hamma isn't out to get you, or shut down Christianity, and Buddy Christ pics aren't mocking Jesus. If you interpret them like that, then you've got some personal issues with vulnerability. Just mellow out man, no one wants things shoved in their face.

Second, no one has to be cautious about anything. That's the thing about being offended. Everything offends someone. Being offended is a concious choice made by the person who's offended. That's the whole priciple behind turn the other cheek.

I'm the son, grandson (of 2), nephew (of two), and friend of dozens ministers. There's a good possibility I'll end up a missionary somewere in the distant future. I know what I'm talking about from experience, and I've seen almost every type of Christian out there, and I understand where they all come from.

Life will be a lot better if you just roll with the punches and pick your fights wisely.

Aztec, I'm a christian. Buddy Christ is very amusing to me, because it represents satire, a type of humor I like. That, right there, deflates your argument about Buddy Chrust being offensive so christians. Is it offensive to some christians? Sure, probably the same fuckwads that were laughed at across the nation for trying to picket the very same movie that particular statue appears in. For being someone who is so obviously "above his peers" you seem to have a rather flimsly grasp of what satire is.

"Oh I understand it, it still pisses me off though!" That's nice, then please go find a claw hammer. Now strike yourself in the head with it until your brain becomes rearranged enough to allow for a sense of humor.

Now, had someone posted a pic of Jesus blowing his wad on the Virgin Mary while the apostles had a nice gang bang in the background I could see how you could be offended. But a statue from a satire about organized religion, specifically catholocism? Please :rolleyes:

But it is as Nav said, pick your battles so you have firm ground to stand on. If you fight every little thing that is the least bit offensive you get worn down.

Actually I'm more offended by the word "Cunt" then I am by Buddy Christ.
