View Full Version : Latitude Longitude Grid

Shouldn't PS have some sort of grid that allows people to give certain positions to fellow comrades?

This way when someone yells AMS SouthEast of base on broadcast you can shout an x, y, z (z for core combat) position from your personal way point or map grid. Militaries always have this....

Would be very nice addition. Thing is we don't want all those pesky lines.

there could always be a way to toggle them on and off :)

This is another thing they should have added in beta. There's no reason not to have it.

They already have that. Its called /loc

what good is a loc without a grid???

Dosent matter since the conts are so big the /loc location is always in the thousands.

I would like a latitude longitude grid, but I always have a squad with waypoints anyway.

If they had the grid system as soon as some one found a ams all they have to do is yell the cordantes and you have one OSed ams. I say that would work if they had an alarm to the ams driver saying your ams had been found.

Doesnt /loc only show your players position? Not something elses. So unless your just passing by or sumthing wouldnt be a bad way to define the location of an ams or something else.

/loc is so arcaic though. It shows every meter of movement which is completely unnecessary. It would be very easy for them to implement Lan/Long based off of every 25 or 50 meters of movement.

Simpler yet, would be to display the cordinates at the cursor location or in a small window when the map is open.

I said this a while ago, some form of grid system perhaps

"AMS in the NE of Grid B4"

Doesent seem like it would be hard to implement.

Would be sweet, then we get naval battles, and we can play battleship! :D

I never did finish the rest because I stopped playing. You're welcome to finish the rest though.

They correspond with the /loc command coordinates, although they have a margin of error of about +/- 10 meters near the edges.

All it would do is keep people from having to have long drawn out conversations consisting of:
"Ok, how close is the waypoint?"
"A little to the west"
"Now?"
"No, a little bit more to the west"
"Ok, how's that?"
"Nope, too far. Bring it back to the east a little and a little more south."
"Fuck it, I'm just walking over there."

It shouldn't be that hard just to point out an enemy AMS to your squad.

Here's the current scenario:

Grunt 1: "I see the AMS."
Grunt 2: "Good, run into the bubble to mark it."
Grunt 1: "Ok."
Grunt 1: "Ok, I died inside the bubble. Mark my location."
Grunt 2: "Got it. Incoming Orbital."

We should have asked the devs when we had the chance.

maybe even easier.. allow the SL to see your personal waypoint? That way you could do:

You - "AMS found at my WP!"
(SL places WP3 over the top of the personal wp)
SL - "RGR - Squad focus on New WP3 - Enemy AMS"

That would work. Perhaps even better allow squad members to make a seperate type of waypoint that only thier squad leaders can see?

Beacon grenades?

Soldiers are only allowed to have one active at a time. When tosed a shaft of light would shoot upwards and the beacon would become visible on the overhead map. The life of a beacon would only be 30 seconds or until it was destroyed.

Beacons would be visible to everyone in your squad/platoon.

All becons would be visible to anyone with CR4 or above.

Anyone remember the poll on the official site from spork back in august (or somewhere around there)? It was a poll asking which order would you like to see the following implemented. It had things like base ownership, lodestar, platoons, fame n glory screens and GRID SYSTEM. So they have it on the list of things to do, and i assume that they will implement it when they get to it.

or at least spork wants it implemented. The sinerio of the 'no a bit to the east..' deal was what happened to me a few days ago. My SL marked it dead on, and what was funny is that no-one else believed me until you saw 10 kill by my OS (which i forgot I had... go figure). the AMS wasn't dead, but we got it in the end. &%#$ TR snipers are a royal pain :)
