Just a few rules:
1: Post as much info on your PC as possible.
2: Please don't mock/insult others PC's. If they like AMD, good for them, they like Intel, good for them. ATI, good, nVidia, good. Just leave them be. :)

That should be fine but you really should upgrade your cpu. That's the biggest prob with that setup.

My new gaming rig is still unassembled on the desk next to my current machine. It's a P4 2.4/533, 512m pc2700, Asus P4PE/F/GL/SATA, 80gig hd, and a 420w power supply. Of course, since operating systems are engineered by the whores of babylon, I cannot put my new rig together until I'm ready to shut the old one off and call the bizzles to get my ONE FREAKING license for XP transferred to the new machine. Of course, shortly afterwards, I'm going to take the leftover parts and put together a debian box in an old case.
In any case, I don't need the new PC until they let me play planetside.

You can install XP on two computers and reinstall on those two computers as much as you want without trouble, its the third computer you will have problems with.

2003-01-15, 02:30 PM
Well I installed XP on an older Dell I had but then I stopped using that. I installed it on my previous computer and then on my newest one. So technically that's 3 times but one isn't hooked up to the internet so maybe that makes a difference.
Ghryphen
2003-01-15, 02:34 PM
Hmm, it would still want you to call tech to activate it even without internet.
The license drops an install after 8 months or a year or something as well and then you can install it again on another computer, at least for Office XP, not sure about Win.
I installed Office XP on a third comp and it said I couldn't activate because it was already installed on another computer. But by the time my 45 uses was up I had passed the mark and it activated. :o

Thanks Unregistered. I've just heard ups and downs from all 3, so I said screw it. But I love the Duel, and the MX700. I'm getting the MX700 no matter what, then one of the other two corded. But thanks for clearifying that. :D

okay the only reason you started this thread was because you feel like impressing people with a machine that your gonna probauly pay 3000 for but will be able to buy for 2000 in 3 months.
If you must know:
Dell Dimension 4500
40GB HD
64mb 4200tvout Geforce 4
256 ram (NEED UPGRADE)
Some flat panel monitor
I dunno the rest I just bought the damn thing from dell but from now on I'm gonna build them because now everyone says intel sucks and I should have an athalon.
Dell customer service sucks ass !!! they didn't send any back up CD's with my computer the Bastards. NO DRIVERS !!! so if it goes down I'm so screwed. I've called 3 times and ordered them 3 times its been 1 month since I last called and still no god damn CD's. I'm gonna fo insane if I call again because I have to hold the phone for about 4 hours. Wish I had boughten alien ware :flamemad: :flamemad:

Intel doesn't suck at all. If you're looking for a gaming rig though the best way to go is just build it yourself. Dell is more of a business solutions type of company or a home/business PC company. Hardcore gaming PCs... no I don't think so, not unless you're willing to pay out the ass.

2003-01-16, 01:33 PM
Well no you won't pay alot less than 2000 unless you steal all those parts. I did a little pricing on my own and figured that it would run you well over $3000. I didn't even factor in the price of a case and some other smaller add ons. You should just get a bigger HD as well. You don't need that fast of a HD if it only has an 18 gb capacity. Sure it's got a fast data transfer but you're sacrificing alot of space.
My System:
Intel P4 1.8ghZ
512 RDram
GeForce 4 Ti4600
Audigy Platnium 5.1
Plextor 16x10x40 CD_RW
Sony DVD-rom
60 & 80 gig WD HD's ( master has a HD cooler on it )
Other computer things:
18.1" Sony LCD monitor
Logitech Z-560 speakers
Microsoft Blue tooth wirerless mouse
Microsoft keyboard
Rat padz mouse pad

I only have the mouse not the keyboard. I figured that what else am I going to plug into the keyboard area on my box so why wast the money. The mouse however is awsome. No lag time or skipping/jumping. It has a range of like 30 feet hehe.
