Ive seen cheap ram off of pricewatch.com and im wondering if buying 1 GB of PC2100 non-ecc (what ever that means) would be better than 512 (2x256) HP name brand ram. Or does it just not matter its ram. I was looking into 2 512 sticks of ram.

ok since its HP i doubt its any faster than the non brand stuff because HP doesnt make speed ram. Now if it was corsair, Mushkin or Kingston Hyper X then it might make a difference...

you can get single stick gigahurt ram if your system supports it.just depends on your current needs.if you want only to upgrade the memory and its in the price range single stick is better than 2x512 because it leaves more space open for upgrade later. hope this helps. :)

the thing is you need 2 sticks to get optimun preformance one stick only goes in single datarate mode for you ddr400 would be cut two 200 and you shulod try to never have more thant 2 slots filled becuae after that the proccessor wastes lots of clockcycles to acces the info
