How do you turn a .bmp file into a .jpeg or .gif file?

Just about any good imaging program will have a "Save for Web" feature that lets you choose what the new compression format will be. Photoshop is the best, but usually overkill.

That's an Earth evironment, not one of Auraxis.

I remember being hyped up about Planetside way back before release because of those screenshots. When it came out and I saw the rather pathetic actual level of graphics.. they might as well have shot themselves in the foot. I'm willing to bet that those are just average screenshots that have had their levels tweaked with in Photoshop and such to make them look a lot more shiny.

look at the waters gheyness though, :( but why didn't they keep those huge alien bases, would've added a shitload more content and storyline, I mean, how do we even konw the vanu existed, they have NOTHING on the planet, and there are no research sites or anything... makes ya wonder...

That is SO early it isnt even funny. This is the reason why they started developing in a black box so that people wuold not get all excited about something they would never see (like the vanu buildings) You folks need to understand they cant have insane graphics like that when there are so mnay people running around.

Can you turn .bmp's to .jpeg's or .gif's in MS Paint? I have a hilarious pic I wanna show.

yes, open it up, then choose save as. after that make the file type (.jpg) if that wont work try saving it as a "All file" (should have a *.* by it) and put .jpg at the end of the file name.

That picture isn't exactly that impressive anyway, Hamma. Take your average screenshot of PS, edit it a tiny bit in a graphic editing program and you have a pretty damn similar kinda of thing. I wouldn't be surprised if this is what the devs did anyway.

Yea, but look at those trees in the original shot, they used to have much more detail heheh Allot of the original shots had much more detail on the ground an trees.

Haha! You do notice some very important details. ;)
As for the trees, and other such details, those should really depend on the computer. I doubt their servers would have any difficulty handling any kind of trees since all they have to know is where the trees are.. how they look is totally dependent on whats on our computer (although this is CRC checked).
As long as we have plenty of RAM, the amount of polygons on those trees shouldn't matter. I know as a past developer with engines similar to this that it's possible to create *extremely* detailed trees en masse without affecting fps much at all. I'd rather they left in the high detail and let me choose to have it or not rather than just toning it down for everybody - this is just another of my many gripes with the game.
But saying that, I do still play and for some part enjoy the game so I won't bore you all with a rant.

Yes, it was in the game. But look at the trees. They're normal trees from Earth, not like those you'd see on an alien planet such as Auraxis. Which is why I said it was an Earth Evironment and not the planet Earth.
