Space storm coming to Earth

CFCN.ca

POSTED AT 5:48 PM Thursday, October 23

Scientists are warning about a strong geo-magnetic storm expected to hit the Earth tomorrow.

Forecasters say the storm has the potential to affect everything from cell phones and power grids to other satellite communications.

The disturbance is rated a G-3 storm. The highest is G-5.

NASA scientists are calling it the perfect space storm.

A largest cluster of sunspots caused an explosion on the sun, sending a massive amount of gas and charged particles into space towards Earth.

Scientist say they expect it to be the worst solar flareup to be felt on Earth since a storm in 1859. That storm caused telegraph wires to short out across North America and Europe.

Meh, blown out of proportion as always. There are more people out there that don't know the slightest thing about the universe and what happens in it, hence it's an easy subject to scare people with. Like asteroids on collision courses that will impact in 2 or 3 years.

Everyone knows we've still got about 10 years before the asteroid "Tatillus" or..something like that...forgot it's name, started with a T though :x impacts earth.

http://www.enn.com/news/enn-stories/2000/06/06232000/asteroid.jpg

MUAHAHAHAHAHA

In actuality though, there really is an asteroid with a similar name above that is on a collision course with earth and is estimated to hit late September of 2012 or something like that. It's rather creepy because a long time ago a prophet prophesied that earth's end would be brought about by something "bigger than a mountain, rolling end over end, destroying civilization." It's creepy because this asteroid that is supposedly going to hit in 2012 fits that description way too well. It looks like a peanut, has an irregular rotation that fits the description of "roling end over end" and is most definitely larger than a mountain.

I'll try and find the name of it and post it here when I do so you can do your own research if you don't believe me. :D

With an asteroid that size, it wouldn't matter really...It'd probably be able to crater a good portion of a continent and cause an extrememly long winter due to all the dust it throws into the atmosphere. Kinda like how the dinosaurs died out. They found a giant crater somewhere near the gulf of mexico that they believe was caused by an asteroid massive enough to produce the above effects. Perhaps thats what formed the gulf of mexico in the first place?

KaiKou, If you take the Gulf of Mexico, go to the South East Portion, on the Western side of the Cacun Penninula, thats corner, is where the asteroid hit.

Thee government has been hiding the fact that we have galactic space lasers that are capable of shooting down asteroids. Also we have magnatron cannons that can send strong blasts of magnetic waves reversing polls at 120 htz, at a target and would be particularly effective against a rock in space which is composed mostly of iron. The first weapon was made specificly for shooting down missles. Its now slowly being shown to the public in the form of those 747s with the lasers (they are opperational). The second was a theater weapon designed to crush and tanks and such that where in its range. Asteroid = owned

and about the asteroid thing, that was the Aztecs, or the mayans, or one of those centeral america places, the world was just supposed to end, 2012, well the bad thing was, 2012 on their calendar was 2003 on ours, or at least i think. the strange thing is, many future predicters have said 2012, but nostrodomus said 3997, but he has been wrong alot

so i was wrong, the closest black hole is 1.6 thousand light years away heading to the center of the galaxy, aka away from us

also, about the black hole heading our way

As for the topic of this thread, the magnetic storm.
It's been downgraded. It's been causing very little mayhem. Most of our satellites are shielded from magnetic interference now and the electric companies have altered their output to compensate. It's having almost NO effect.

On the whole Aztec/Mayan 2012 end of the world:

The Mayan calendar ends (in our calendar) December 12, 2012. I want to make this clear. The world will not end.

We will enter the Age of Aquarius.

That is all.

Of course, the Mayans belived there would be a huge flood, but come on, it won't happen.

Hmm well the Asteroid they theorized wiped out the dinosaurs was only a few miles wide. Of course, it doesn't need to be any bigger; one only a mile wide would have more force than quite a number of nuclear arms combined.

I figure the mayans were right though. In 2012 an Asteroid will be on a collision course with earth...

Then we'll put a few dozen weapons into it, knocking it off course just enough to miss earth; or anyplace important on earth, at least.

After he woke up, his brain was different due to brain damage, the Mayans mistook his work for art, and put it on display in a tribal museum.

Hell, if you believe in creationism and God, like me, you get a feeling Jupiter's being there ain't coincidental. It's caught plenty of doomsday ateroids and anihilated them.

Jupiter is made completely of gas. If an asteroid goes in, it probably just gets stuck in there somewhere. Also, doomsday asteroids don't destroy planets. They cause massive changes in the ecosystem. If an asteroid hit Europe somewhere lets say. Europe would be reduced to a crater, depending on the size of the asteroid. The dust thrown up from the event would block the sun out for decades. Causing mass species to die out. If humans could survive or not, I don't know. I'd imagine we could if we don't all kill each other out of panic first.

Somewhere in the thread someone said if an asteroid hit the ocean somewhere then it'd just cause big floods. Erm..if by big floods you mean tidal waves miles high with the capability of completely covering everywhere from oklaholma west with water (assuming it hits in the pacific) then yeah that's accurate :p

The worst place for an asteroid to hit would be the north or south poles. It'd melt the entire continent and cause enough of a flood to kill off at least half of the population of earth.

Goddammit, I hate armageddon threads.
They CAN'T predict asteroids heading towards us very far in advance because there is too much randomness. A meteor that seems like it is heading for us could hit a gravity well or a fucking gas cloud and have it's course altered enough to miss us completely. In the Universal scale, the earth is a very very small target and there is a LOT of shit in the way.

As for these predictions...people have been predicting the end of the world EVERY DAY since we figured out the concept of armageddon. Just because the Aztecs figured it was 2012 doesn't mean they were right. They also thought that conquistador Pizzaro or whatever was from the god's and was going to help them. Yeah, they were real fuckin' accurate there weren't they? That calander is a fucking rock and nothing more. You'd probably have as much luck predicting armageddon from a 2 year old scribbling on the wall with crayon.
Personally, if I'm gonna follow some obscure armageddon story, I'm gonna go with the Norse. Now there is an armageddon with style. Undead warriors, wolves, winter, giants and gods. Some Big fucking snake thing. Oh yeah.

About that doomsday asteroid getting caught in Jupiter, happens all the time. Plenty of Jupiter's moons may just be stuff it's caught over time. And once it's caught, enough force will pull on it to eventually pull it to the surface. Jupiter has gravity almost 8 times that of earth, it would crush an asteroid in a small amount of time.
