View Full Version : Massive FPS lag?

Since the new update (but for some reason not in beta) i and my outfit have been getting MASSIVE almost unplayable lag. I get a vanguard and dont even have one kill before i am blown up, because the gunner cannot see what he is getting pounded by. Just as a point of reference, i usually last upwards of 30 mins with vanguard. But even on foot, my FPS has dropped down to around 5ish whenever i am in any sort of battle. 3 days ago it was always at LEAST 25. Basically are you guys getting it on other empires or servers? Im on NC Emerald.

Stuttering has gone through the roof. CC patch is teh suck.
I'm pretty sure it is attributed to a massive memory leak. Close out PlanetSide every 20-30 minutes and its all good. What also seems to work from clearing out the pagefile is swapping from full screen to windowed mode.
The longer you are in game, the longer it will take to swap modes. If you do this every 20 minutes, you'll see a huge improvement.

Ya i think that the CC update screwed up my Packet loss from .2 or 3 to 10% then it decreases to 5% witch still sucks ass hopefully they will resolve this soon.

Yeap, they have a whole new problem on their hands. The game is unplayable for me since the new patch. I get 30second freezes, stutters, download times are 5 times as long and there are all sorts of bugs. The Lightning drifts to the right when trying to go straight and infantry takes damage for no reason. I was losing upwards of 20 health just walking across level ground. Those are just a couple but they have a lot of work to do before this patch works properly.

Ok cool then it isn't me going crazy. I kept thinking I messed something up when I was configuring my keymappings.
My FRAMERATE (FPS) was actually a little better last night... but my packet loss was high, and my ping was also higher, much higher, than it should've been. And I haven't been taking RANDOM damage, but the ground got buffed, evidently; falling damage is stronger than I remember. Nerf the ground, I say. :P
Unfortunately, with the SOE offices in danger of BURNING TO THE GROUND, it could be a while before we see any fixes.
And concerning stuttering: with my ubar, ubar gigabyte of RAM I haven't noticed major stuttering, but it HAS been stuttering again. However, the timing doesn't seem as random as when it was me with 512 MB. It stuttered once JUST before I got a geowarp closing message... it COULD be that it's somehow tied to the geowarp timer...

I found some trouble last night, today I went on for a few and was ok. I also turned up my bandwidth settings in game options, a little known about option that causes 90% of all lag and people just quit instead of ajusting the setting :p
I suspect last night's ping-lag might have been from people downloading CC - server slammage at SOE :p And yes, I'm set for maximum bandwidth.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that...
Hey Hamma, could you post the instructions for that again here?
I think they've moved that option from the command line (I.E. /pipe or whatever it was) to the options window. I'm not sure though, and I'm curious to know if it still works.

Under Game Options, you need to select the Advanced tab. I played around with it, but I saw no diferrance with all three settings.

Hmm, I was having stuttering problems a couple days ago that I wasn't having at all on prior days (I'm at the end of my trial period and will soon be a paying customer :)). I did a disk check and defrag and it appeared to clear right up.

Since CC release I have been getting really weird crash type errors. Basically at random times (2 minutes to 30 minutes playing) the entire screen turns into flashing vertical bars. Sometimes orange sometimes blue. If I exit out of PS (hit esc then Q) it doesnt change a thing. If I hit the start button to go to windows it still looks the same. Only way out is to reboot. Sound is still playing when this happens so it is strictly a video issue.
Using a Geforce 3 right now, d/l the new drivers and didn't help at all. Going to d/l Directx 9b during lunch and do a dxdiag and see what the PS people think. It almost seems like a hardware issue but it only happens with PS and only since CC was released.
I could always hope for a dying vid card so I could justify getting a Radeon 9800 8)
I'm missing my PS though :(
