I notice that our titles have changed to military ranks.

I have no clue what the ranks mean (I know little about military command structure).

Could someone list all the military ranks... so I know what say... a sergent major is?

Bah going from Sgt Major to Leutenant whould be a demotion and a pay cut by most peoiples standards. :P

Besides Sgt Majors and Chief Master Sgts can get away with so much shit that a Lt whould get written up on conduct unbecoming.

How about you quit spamming the forums with the stupid ban sighn, ok thanks.

Um.....someone messed up. The rank of General (4 stars) is the highest rank an officer can achieve, excluding the 5 star General/Admiral. And that's reserved only for times of war. That's when you have the General of the Army, General of the Air Force, and Fleet Admiral. And as far as I know, there is no General of the Marines. Most likely because they are part of the Department of the Navy. And if you are a Joint Chief of Staff, you don't outrank other 4 Star Generals/Admirals. It's just a job title, nothing else. Wow....can you tell that I'm in the military? Enough rambling for now. My apologies.

It's not messed up, I pulled it from a site that lists ranks.

I gotta agree with him Hamma, Joint Chief is not a rank but a position. Yes they are a General (no pretitle) supperior to other Generals but it's still not a rank.

Hamma

I'm aware what joint chief is, I put it up there at the top as something fun. Joint chief is certainly one of the highest positions you can attain in any division.

If someone can find another site that lists ranks officially let me know, it was a pain even finding these :p

I was going to use navy but most of them had seamen in the rank.

US Army Ranks:

E1/Private
E2/PV2 (private E2)
E3/Private First Class (PFC)
E4/Specialist --or-- Corporal
E5/Sergeant
E6/Staff Sergeant
E7/Sergeant First Class
E8/Master Sergeant --or, if in a command position-- First Sergeant
E9/Sergeant Major --or if in command pos-- Command Sergeant Major

That's all that's important. To hell with officers, they just fuck things up and get in the way with their stupid ideas and their smart-ass college-boy ideas and antics.

E1-E4 are termed "junior enlisted" and are the ranks you earn automatically (unless you're a piece of shit). Specialists are occasionally team-leaders and squad leaders, but their rank is called "The Sham Shield". Where NCOs are the backbone of the Army, privates are the hands and feet and specialists are the spine. All your legwork is done primarily by junior enlisted soldiers, under the supervision of noncommissioned officers.

E5 and E6 are noncommissioned officers (NCOs or "non-coms"), and are given a great deal of respect, leadership trust, and responsibility. They lead squads and occasionally platoons, if there is a shortage of personnel. Noncommisioned officers are the backbone of the Army- what twisted, stupid ill-fated schemes that officers come up with, it is the job and duty of a noncom to carry out. They are generally termed "first-line supervisor" and also thought of by the officer corps as "mid-level management". Once again- officers, thinking like corporate executives and customer-service representatives.

E7s are "senior NCOs" and are generally trusted to lead platoons and whatnot, although many an E6 has been a platoon sergeant as well due to shortages and Clinton's Drawdowns. A Sergeant First Class is a position appointed by Congress (through the custodianship of a board of other senior enlisted personnel).

First Sergeants are in charge of company-sized units. They are the senior NCO in a company, they are generally considered to be the commander's right hand (to hell with an XO, the paper-pusher). Your first sergeant is responsible for all enlisted personnel in the company. First sergeants also have the ability to tell a platoon leader (second or first lieutenant) that they are pieces of crap, intellectually-retarded idiots who by the grace of their mommy and daddy's college money are given the respect they get, and get away with it.

A sergeant major is the ultimate enlisted position. Where a company is under the care of a first sergeant, the battalion and brigade is under a command sergeant major. (For the non-hablars, three to four companies make a battalion and three to four battalions plus supporting elements form a brigade). The battalion and brigade sergeants major are highly-respected and trusted to mentor and care for the enlisted personnel under their command. A sergeant major is an excellent ally, or a fierce enemy. You simply DO NOT fuck with a sergeant major, not unless you're a fucking retard or a general. Sergeants major have generally been in for nearly 20 years, or well beyond 20. They have experience and knowledge that you simply cannot hold a candle to. You or your sissy college diploma.

If you want me to break down the officers and warrant officers, I can do that too. I didnt want to waste your time any further (haha).

Airforce-

E1/Airman Basic-Generaly the only time you see these guys is in boot, by the time most airforce career fields complete their tech training they've generaly put enough time in to get their first stripe.

E2/Airman-1 Striper, generaly in their first year of enlistment or having not completed tech training.

E3/Airman First Class-Two stripes, mathmaticly most of the force is generaly 2 stripers. They're sposed to be finishing their on the job training.

E4/Senior Airman-Autonomous Technicians these are who do the most of the work as a general rule.

E5/Staff Sergeant-The first NCO rank, generaly they are technicians but are starting to gravitate towards more of the Quality Assurance paperwork role. We do the work, they requisition the parts and check over our work.

E6/Tech Sergeant-These guys generaly watch over shops NCO in charge is generally their job title.

E7/Master Sergeant-Generaly they handle oversite over a group of shops, or a shift of workers (day shit, night shift).

E8/Senior Master Sergeant-Assists the flight or squadron commander (who is usualy only a leutenant or captain) and keeps them from doing something totaly fucked up. Usualy non consequencial stuff they let pass only stepping in if they do somethign that whould impact the mission which their too stupid to understand.

E9/Chief Master Sergeant-Generaly provides oversite over the maintenance or operational functions of an entire squadron. THey've done the job, they know the job, if somethigns fucked up they call you on it, dont bullshit them.

Also the top three ranks can fill a first sergent role (aka first shirt) the shirt's job is to handle morale issues and maintain good order and discipline. THey do open ranks inspections, room inspections that sort of stuff. THeir also who you see if you have issue with someone in your chain of command, or if your pay is fucked up, or if there is a problem in your life that for one reason or another you cannot get resolved.

Hehe...I guess it does pay off to be in the Air Force. Gigabein did give you a good link Click Here (http://www.defenselink.mil/pubs/almanac/almanac/people/insignias/officers.html). That's off of a .Mil webpage, so it can be trusted. Just click on the Officer part and it'll show you what I was talking about earlier. Most civilians are pretty unfamiliar with the rank system, so it's not a big deal.
