Hmm....... I'd still recommend making a backup copy of that file, you can never know.

Anyway...... does this actually work? because not getting FPS lower then 5 ever sounds too good too be true  .

It's been getting a lot of praise on the OF. I plan to try it out tonight when I get home. I'll post to let ya know if it worked or not.

I tried it out this morning, but because there wasn't a hell of a lot of action going on, I didn't notice much of difference. But I'll be sure to try it out tonight primetime. :D

Aww, this sucks, I can't see what it says because school won't let me goto the OF. Someone copy and paste it or quote it or something.

PlanetSide FPS and Stuttering Fix:

Note: This fix does not improve your framerate beyond what you had prior to the Core Combat update. It only prevents you from stuttering and dropping to 5 FPS which is being experienced by everyone since the CC release.

1. Open up your PlanetSide game folder and find the file: engine3d_perf.ini.

2. Open the file using Notepad.

3. Change the following values from TRUE to FALSE:

new_prefetch
new_texture
prime_geometry

4. Save the file.

5. Right-click on the file and select properties.

6. Set the file attributes for the file to READ ONLY (check the box).

7. Apply the changes and launch PlanetSide.

If you have any other techical questions regarding PlanetSide, please note, I do not work for Sony Online Entertainment, and I am not able to assist you.

Best of luck, and see you in-game.

I tried this and it did improve the stuttering for awhile. I was able to actually play for about an hour before the stuttering started to return. I then rebooted and played for another hour with no problems. I tried to go for 2 hours, but by then the stuttering and freezes got so bad it was just unplayable. It really feels like there is a memory leak.
