I downloaded the Trial from planetside's own ftp server, it took 7.5 hours to complete using my ADSL. Now I've logged in, it wants to download almost 4 hours worth of files. You would think that since I used planetside's own ftp they would have up-to-date downloads there. Is this a common thing in planetside? Do they hit you with massive updates like this all the time? Or is this a one off becuase of the Core Combat addon?

I don't want to sit down for a quick game to find I can't play for 2 hours due to updates.

Tell me something admin, wtf is your problem with my sigs? Look at bryan25's. OMG....

My Sig pic:
Size : 15.5 KB (15,872 bytes)
Dimensions: 426 x 133

Bryan's Sig Pic:
Size : 164 KB (168,914 bytes)
Dimensions: 346x244

30mins Bryan? Must be some kind of Trial thing then. Good to hear.

First time login = DEMON PATCH.

Then, its hardly over 20 minutes for any other updates, save CC.

Just turn it on before you go to sleep, the only one that hurts is the first one.

As far as sigs, bryans went up a few days after sigbots last rampage, it usually prowls about around once a month IIRC, so it'll be owned eventually, soon hopefully.

Uhh, my sig is bigger than his and it's never been pwned. There is a post somewhere on here that says what the specific limits are just do a search, mine is set to the max. :D

And I just prefer cable to DSL. I have never had a pleasant experience dealing with DSL or DSL companies, and cable has always been so much faster for me despite the hype/lies about dedicated line this vs cable is shared that yadda yadda. Stupid TelCos. ;)

You're sig comes up as" [AD] "to me :-p

As for the updates guess what, its "canceled" twice for some unknown reason. It just says "Download Canceled"
Then, when press update again it doesnt resume, it scans the files then starts right from the start again.

If it keeps this up PSide can shove it.

It doesn't start from the start, as far as i know it just resets the bar, as for why it cancels, i dunno, don't hit the cancel button? Never heard of that problem.Uhh, my sig is bigger than his and it's never been pwned.bah, i should have checked the properties on it instead of just taking his word on it's kb size

I've been doing some work on sigbot so it has run several times today.

My PC seems to think your sig pic comes from a source that serves adverts or popups, so it replaces the image with [AD].

Hmm, maybe tweak your filter or something. It's hosted on ISP "free" webspace at members.shaw.ca so I doubt there is much advertising coming from there.

Er, then why is it doing 3dsounds.wav again?

I don't think the patcher is smart enough to consolidate everything into one mondo patch. You know how for BF or Half-life you can always get the incremental patch or the full patch? With PS it just has dozens of incremental patches that it has to get in order. Life sux.

Actualy shaw's buisness section hosts alot of buisness adverts.

Oh, so it doesn't care about subdomains? Ah well.

This is annoying me. It's run through the same files over and over. wtf is it doing!? It updates files to exactly the size they are!

TeraHertz
2003-10-31, 03:16 AM
yeay. Yet again the updater crashed. "this program has generated too many errors and will be closed by windows"

And yet again it rolls back to the start.

TeraHertz

Right. Now I'm annoyed. 3dsounds.wav is now downloading for the 7th time. Each time it downloads a file thats exactly the same size and it's predecesor.

I really don't know, everytime i cancelled my original dl on accident, which i did several times, it picked up where it left off. Thats just... odd doesn't really describe it but it's as good a word as any i guess.

TeraHertz

The updater must be corrupt.

Incompetent

Possibly, that would probably negate full scan, but it's worth a try if you haven't already done so. I remember reading something about fixing the launch pad way back when but i can't remember any of it. You could always try deleting and redownloading it if you want, that would probably fix it, if you think it's worth it give it a shot i guess.

It seems fine now.
There was a pretty big Aurora Borealis display last night (I'm in Scotland) due to the sunspot activity. Perhaps it was pissing about with my PC or connection.

er, nope. Scratch that theory. The main download bar now shows complete, but the time indicator says an hour to go and different files are still downloading. My Speedtouch diagnostic says there is no change in download speed.

Cool. This has been great fun spending 14 hours to download files.[/sarcasm]

[edit]
lol, it finalry downloads, and it says all servers are down. GREAT.

[edit]
WTF. Its wants to download again? This peice of shit is taking the piss. No wonder there arent that many players.

Well, it doesn't really download a load of small patches. What it does is scan the files on your system, then check with how they compare with those on the update server. If they don't match, new ones are downloaded.

Because of this, you don't have to redownload whatever.cfg for example, if it were changed in several different patches. You would just download the latest one.

Anyways.. the one on their server is probably the same one on Fileplanet.. which I think is the same as the one you get in a box from the store. The patches may take a while for some, not for others. It took me hours on my 600k connection this last time, but before that it only took one hour.. so I think it depends entirely on when you patch.
