I've never really liked any of the Final Fantasy series except for the first one. So I picked up the FF1 ROM and I've been having a blast!

(Perfectly legal, as I own the original. My NES doesn't work though.)

Man, that game is the bomb for being ten years old.

Go download FF1 and play! NOW! DO IT! (Even though it's illegal to own for more than 24 hrs if you don't own original game)

That and Dragon Warrior 1 are two fantastic RPGs for the NES...

Get Final Fantasy Origins for the PS1 (works on PS2 too.) FF1 goodness with SNES+-quality graphics. Pure, hard sex.

And come on, the SNES era Square games ruled too. Gotta love the Secret of Mana series (points at name, sig and avatar) and Chrono Trigger.

Hamma still might consider this warez.

Yikes! Didn't even think of it as warez.

Disclaimer: Only download if you own the original OR you delete after 24 hours. Then it's legal

I only like RPGs if my characters are uber-customizable. I was under the impression all the later FFs stick with you with cookie cutter characters. (Don't complain that they're cool or have great stories, I want my own characters!)

Just don't tell people how to get it or link to it.

I agree totally. This is why I hate most Final Fantasy games.

I rented FF4-6 for PS1 once. I don't know which one it was. It sucked. Here is what I remember:

Character gets off train. I believe it's either female, or a guy that's really feminine. There's this huge long boring cinematic about some plot to destroy a power plant and blow up the world. You meet up with a fat guy with an axe that's dark skinned. You run into some reactor core and turn off the plant. While you're running away, you get attacked by big dragon. It killed me. I got fed up with the game, and didn't play anymore.

Extent of customization? Naming the character.

Play Ogre Battle 64. Massive customization. Only a few members of your army are preset. You choose your name, alignment, element, weapon, armor, etc... Amazing storyline, really suspenseful and you want to effect the outcome (you can).

Play Ogre Battle: Knight of Lodis (GBA) Even more customization. You can choose your class. Wanna cast spells? Be a Warlock. Wanna be a dragon kicking uber knight? Be a dragoon. Decent story.

I haven't bought a single RPG yet that gave me stupid pre-made idiots with giant swords straight out of the "Corny Heroes" production line.

That was Final Fantasy SEVEN. And yes, despite what some say that sucked.

FF4 starts off with a flight of airships soaring towards home base after WRECKING A CITY TO STEAL AN ELEMENTAL CRYSTAL...

FF6 starts off with SOLDIERS IN MECHS ATTACKING A CITY TO INVESTIGATE THE REPORT OF AN ANCIENT BEING CAUGHT IN ICE... and one of the soldiers is a girl wearing a mind control device... a girl with green hair...

You'd know FF4 or 6 if you played them. ;)

And yes, you should "somehow" play those. I recommend... "borrowing" them from someone if you can find them. :p

And FFXI can bite me, thank you. For so many different reasons.
