Hey, i just got the 7 day trial for Planetside, but everytime i try to patch it takes 3 hours, i did it anyways but it just wound up having a error 98% through, then id have to start all over again, so.. im pretty pist off right now, ive got Cable.. i downloaded the game in about 1 hour at 400k/sec so i doubt my internet is the problems.. is there a manual download for the patch or anything?
98% error? Can you describe what's happening in a bit more detail?

Ok, When i log in it goes through some Patch right away, first it Scans some files then after that it goes to some long download with an estimated time and time of completion, it takes about 4 hours to finish, every little while during the download it downloads a large file but while it is being unziped or something it cancels, so i just press download again and it starts back to where it canceled and then it goes through the file fine, but durring the end about 3 hours through at 98% it just comes up with a fatal error.
Is the patch sapose to take 4 hours to download?

I have the exact same error. I think the error is something to do with the below:
Its either -
Corruption due to HDD failure/bad sectors [i've rulled this out,
my disk is Maxtor PowerMax certified error free.
Corruption due to HDD Damaged IDE cable [ordered a new cable]
Corruption due to HDD fragmentation [defraged my HD, no improvement]
Corruption during download (the downloader uses crappy HTTP instead of FTP)
Corrupt source
Corrupt installer
Update source overloaded
The files that seem to fk up on seems to be 3dsounds.wav and waves.wav

If one of you can winrar zip your 3dsounds.wav and upload it somewhere (preferably ftp) that'd be a big help.

lol. omg. It sucseffuly downloaded and FINALY allowed me to play, then when it ran it gets stuck on "loading continent." I alt tabed and closed the program.
Then when I ran the program again, off it goes downloading the patch AGAIN. *&^%
[edit] heres what the scan rekons. I rekon, bullshit. For a start, how can files be negative on my HDD, or on the server for that matter?

So far my conclusion is that sony's update servers must be fucked.
I've read loads of posts and complaints about the patcher not working in the full game, the demo, and in other SOE games like Star Wars galaxies.
Either there is a Launchpad bug, or something's up with the SOE update servers, and nothing seems to be getting done.

You dont think I looked here?
All i got was "download it again"
I've now downloaded the PSide demo 17 times over the course of the past few weeks. Count em, SEVENTEEN.
thats Over 24 Gigs.
And thats not including the number of times I've tried to patch it.

Have you tried deleting the files that error and then patching again? In theory it will replace them
TeraHertz
2003-11-02, 03:12 PM
Yeah I tried that. Its the replacing that seems to be going wrong, it replaces the files. then IF the download doesnt cancel itself, the next time i run the launcher it wants to download again.

Thats odd. I tired deleting it again and it says there is a sharing violation. How queer, in both meaning of the word.
You've registered a Station.com account, this is the point where you go and complain to the CSRs on the Tech Support forum. I'm afraid this is rapidly leaving our area of knowledge.

"You must be an PlanetSide subscriber to post to this forum
back to the boards "
Unless I actualy pay, I cant get support, and unless I know the game will work, I'm not going to pay.

Your best bet is to go to my link and explain your situation. I have no idea what to try next.

Well, thanks for the attempts at help anyway. I have ordered a nice new high quality ATA133 HD IDE cable, a new Artec power supply, and enough CDs to backup my files. Once I get the delivery I'll low level format my pc to NTFS, reinstall everything, then download a new copy of the Pside trial. If it continues to fuck up, I'll get onto the helpdesk, but I don't see what they can do tbh if it's not already in their knowledge database.
If the updates weren't only obtainable through the app, I could use my T3 access at uni to download the files...
