View Full Version : Why did you choose your alias?

1024
2003-11-04, 01:12 AM
Why?

For me, i got it from the Incubus video "Warning". At 10:24 in the video everybody in the world vanishes. Its kind of trippy.

Although a few months later i came across liek 10 things that would make some sweet aliases.

I  Incubus, never knew there was a vid for "Warning."

Mine's from my favourite (well one of my fave) U2 songs, "Ultraviolet (Light My Way)." *sniffle* Beautiful lyrics!

keaoi
2003-11-04, 02:46 AM
i took the vowels of the alphabet
drop the u
then i switched the 1st and last 2 letters
add a K

Keaoi

later i found it to be a still untranslated word from a primitive Hawaiian tribe
that freaked me out.

so i consider it to mean unknown.

/edit/ damn you google, you scare the crap out of me.

Lise
2003-11-04, 03:04 AM
Hoooooooo boy. This is a story...

I used to be known as SpaceDrake. When Planetside was released, I was on a 56K modem. I attempted to play on Emerald. Anyone who played release will realize how that went. I tried Johari. No dice, too far away from the east coast and it filled fast too. In frustration I finally snapped... I'd make a character on Konried of all places. I'd pretend to be a girl, and trick some poor 13 year old into loving me, then... WHAM! I'd crack his mind like an egg. So I go looking for a hot yet fairly original female character to steal a name from, and I end up with Lise, lance-wielding princess of Rolante from Seiken Densetsu 3 (AKA Secret of Mana 2.) My character was going to be a little female with a huge chaingun, so it worked.

So I began. I actually made a pretty good female too. But then I began to realize something: the people on Konried back in those days rocked. Rocked hard. I stand by my sentiment that if you wanted a good gameplay experience the place to be from May to late August was Konried. It was mostly modem-friendly, the people were great (even Ram, though he was obsessed with having the biggest outfit ever :p ) and the fights were big enough to be fun. Unfortunately, by the time I realized this, I was already part of an outfit that was convinced I was a girl.

Doh.

I used the excuse of a modem to stay off of voice, but it was inevitable that I'd get caught. I'd be on broadband once the summer was over, so I decided to fess up...

http://www.planetside-universe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10269&highlight=Lise

Since so many knew me as Lise at that point, and I had never seen anyone else use the name, I figured WTS. Why not.

Haven't changed my Planetside name since. :D

And as a side note, I do believe it was this incident that finally spawned the "Pics or it never happened" rule we have around here. :p

Spider
2003-11-04, 06:30 AM
Mine comes from my usual gamestyle in most games... I drag the ennemy where I want him and strike... but I only realised that after I chose it.

It actually came from the name of the singer in Powerman 5000. Spider One.

Had alot of names....

Urza (from MTG)
Issyl (from Battle realms)
Exodus (UO)
Exo (shorter)
Hephaistos (greek god of smithing...)

In short.... I had alot more but can't remember them... so now I'm sticking with Spider...

Because I once was aqquainted with a brother's friend's mother, and she was fanatic, and dramatic. It first turned out to be FanaticDramatic, but people called me 'DF' instead. So, I switched it around.

Manitou
2003-11-04, 07:47 AM
My younger brother had an underground metal band named Manitou. I liked it and I liked what Manitou stood for:

In Algonquian religious belief, a supernatural power that permeates the world, possessed in varying degrees by both spiritual and human beings.
A deity or spirit.
A name given by tribes of American Indians to a great spirit, whether good or evil, or to any object of worship.

I have had this name since 1998. Can't imagine going by any other...

TheRagingGerbil
2003-11-04, 09:46 AM
Shitty bike shocks though...

My tag came while playing HL FireArms Mod when it was first released back in the day. A bunch of us created similar tags one night just for the hell of it. It started as RagingGerbil, I added the "The" later. The name stuck, I saw another guy in PS recently whom I haven't seen in a long while "RabbidWombat," he was there the night we made our tags too.

Prior to that, I went by "hrdcrskr." Since then, I have had different variations of the name, or just gone by "Gerbil."

Bebop was my first major anime ever, and i still love it.

so, combined the 2, added an extra "E" cause I didnt know how to spell ;) and have been going by that ever since.

Peacemaker
2003-11-04, 10:36 AM
When I was 10 I held and shot a Colt Peacemaker. I now own a replica of the gun and when quake came out I slid there with the Alias of Peacemaker. Alot of ppl think im the first one to ever use this name. I barley ever run into other people with the name. Unfortunatly the name has been taken on every server but they are all idle (may 31st is the last time any of them have been used). SOE should kill unused names.

My last name is weird. It's often misconstrued and one of the mispronunciations was Birdhead. This was mainly by this really funny guy in my school, so it caught on. And since I was short up until about mid last year, pretty much everyone called me Lil bird.

24 and 31 are my favorite nascar drivers jeff and robby gordon.

I use this as my sn but it has a 22 added to it by mistake

Galgimp was coined way back in the day when people actualy were desperately looking for gal pilots or anyone with transport, i got so used to people seeking me out for my other skills (medic engineer advanced medic) that i kept him even after i dropped the gal cert, maybe if they ever raise the ceiling or give me sund and gal for the price of one Ill snag it again.

My Internet Alias is Malachi, which is simply the most diabolical-sounding Biblical name. There is probably better, but that was on the first page.

Spee was derived simply because there was a partiall blacked-out "speedway" sign, and my friend said "Spee!" (the only characters that were lighted) really funny.

Derfud
2003-11-04, 07:38 PM
One day I was playing Perfect Dark on my gameboy and I wanted to make a new profile, so I went to put my name in and pressed all the buttons, and it came out "Derfu". I thought it was pretty unique, so it stuck. Then came time to make a hotmail.com account, but [email protected] was already taken, so I added the D, hence "Derfud". I liked it better, now I use it for all my online games that I play, and plan to copywright it :D

Hrm...

Ok well in the past I've had generic names such as "Ranma" and "Quatre" and "Xwing1098" (way back when I played xwing vs tiefighter...) so I figured "It's time to get an original name" Sooo I went around looking at some romanji japanese and found "Kaikou" which means mysterious light, so I figured "Hey, it looks cool, has a decent meaning" so I took it.

Of course later I found out that "Kaiko" means shellfish which could also be spelled as "Kaikou" but thats fine because "Kaikou" DOES also mean mysterious light.

You can call me "Fushigi Hikari"! (Which also means....mysterious light...)

I got my alias from the place that Lise did. Actually, it was the Mana before it. Secret of Mana. It was the name of a dragon you had to fight in order toget him to take you to the end of the game. Or rather it was the name of a type of dragon. a flammey

/Edit/ Also, I was looking for an origional name. Someone no one has used online. I hate putting numbers in my name. I tried this name, and it was free.

FightForFreedom
2003-11-05, 12:03 AM
FightForFreedom is my forum name because that is the name I decided to give my first character.

However, for all other accounts and character names, I have used Screecher990. My friend and I were talking about something when we came to a point in the conversation when I mentioned an anima screeching. For some reason, we thought it was absolutely hilarious. I added 990 to the end simply because I think it makes it sound better. While FightForFreedom is my forum name, Screecher990 is what I usually use.

Why?: One of three "chimes" (demons) from a great author, Terry Goodkind. The three chimes are named Sentrosi, Reechanni, and Vasi. (Fire, Water, Wind). The three chimes use their inerit elements to cause death and chaos throughout the land in one of his books.

Searo
2003-11-05, 09:13 PM
PSU Names-

Flameseeker- Name of a Demonhunter in WarIII, a blind Night Elven warrior hero that uses demonic energies to fight demons. Ceremoniously blinded, they use spectral sight to view their surroundings. They carry two demonically charged war blades used to hack and slash enemies.

Searo- From a name generator. Typed my info in, Searo Ficha came out. I started using it on Neveron as my Emperor, and I've been using it ever since.

SC Names-
I had a bunch of StarCraft names, but I don't really remember them. Some were based off of the book Dune, with names like Fedaykin and Fremen but later I adopted a new name.

Pr0be- It started as Probe_Avenger, and I had my info as an insane sounding guy that avenged the deaths of probes (tiny little harvester robots the Protoss use) I decided to shorten it to Pr0be (probe was taken).

WC3 Names-

Strangely enough, I never had Flameseeker as a War3 name. I liked the Wisps (Tiny little forest spirits that mine gold and absorb wood from trees). Yes, I have an "Insignificant Worker" obession. I didn't play for a while, so I just used Pr0be.

OOO history

Orriginal handle back in the good old hacker days (before the script kiddies made it a tallent free hobby)

Hunter2223- This was back in the day. I was still writing code under the pen name Christian Hunter and hacking under hunter2223 the 2223 was actually came from an online discussion in which I had smoked a guy pretty bad (firendly like) so we were joking about it later. He'd say something and I'd reply 2223 I had to come up with something that it meant so I decided I'd translate it ussing the handy phone hooked to my 9600 modem! :) I came up with 2bad so it was hunter2bad just cause it sounded tough

Hunter-R: Fastforward about 5 Years and Duke nukem comes out. We're playing at a LAN party and my hacker handle is more then 8 characters (and the 2223 thing sucked ass by then) so I went with my fav Comic book character Hunter Rose from MAtt Wagners Grendel As it would also not fit and no spaces it became Hunter-R

Pilgrim: About 2 years ago... maybe less, maybe more I'm old and it all runs together! I was playing DAOC and joined a Christian Guild with all my buds. They all had started new characters with lame lames like Biblethumper, and Christdefender (no I'm not kidding) I thought all the names were lame, but what's a guy to do. So i came up witht he kewlest sorta christian but sorta not name I could come up with. Problem is that of all the handles I've ever had this is the only one to stick. So now about half the people I' know in real life call me Pilgrim... and I think I'm stuck with it for a long time!

Could be worse.

And I got the Hammanator to change it by just sending him a friendly little e-mail. Near instant service!

xuur
2003-11-07, 03:09 AM
'xuur' actually popped out of an experimental text generator I was working on a decade or so ago. Mostly a random number generator with various alphabetic translations and vowel use criteria added. it was a bit of an abomination as it was supposed to be impossible to generate two same characters side by side. it always puzzled me and I never figured out why it happened. it never occurred again that I know of. so it kinda stuck in my head.

it popped out. I liked it. used it ever since. the program was then used to encrypt purchase order and vendor information for a now defunct retail chain.

it's also aparrently the name of some kind of strange looking violin from tibet or some such. go figure
