I enjoy soul rap (Outkast) and old school gagsta rap (BigE Smalls, Snoop, Dre).

Also enjoy rock from Bush, AC DC, Nirvana, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Don't know much about punk. To be honest I don't even know what it sounds like. Theres a song called "Dreams in Digital" by Orgy

If that's not punk, what about the song "#1 Crush" by Garbage or "Pretty Peice of Flesh" by One Inch Punch? Are they punk?

"I would burn for you, feel pain for you
I would twist the knife and bleed my aching heart
And tear it apart
I would lie for you, beg and steal for you
I would crawl on hands and knees until ya see
You're just like me
Violate all the love that I'm missing
Throw away all the pain that I'm living
You won't believe in me
And I can never be ignored"

I think that's punk. Right? I listen to it when i'm in a dark reminising type mood.

NOT PUNK.

Punk is not entirely about the lyrics. It's also about a hard+fast sound, with plenty of liberally slanted lyrics as well as beautiful songs about life/girls/etc. And of course, songs about drinking and good times such as NOFX's "gonaherpasyphilaids." ;) But yes, mostly about a good time!

Don't get me wrong, I love Garbage, but they are mainstream. IMO, punk is NOT mainstream!

In my car i have Citizen Fish - Flinch, been listening to alot of their stuff lately if you like Punk/ska check them out, and while your at it check out Subhumans some of the same personel but more of an old school english Oi kind of thing.

Also been digging on Liars and Mclusky alot lately.

The pAper Chase is one of the best new bands I've heard in a long time, I cant really classify them. Their website (http://www.thepaperchaseband.com/) has videos and clips and such.

Punk isn't inherantly liberal BTW, just the best punk ;).

We need to get rid of all lables anyhow, includeing liberal and punk.

In a way anarchy is an ultra-conservative concept as its the smallest kind of government you can have.

keaoi
2003-11-05, 10:51 AM
anarchy is a completely lack of government, a form of "let your conscious be your guide". unfortunately most people have killed thier conscious, so with anarchy we'd have nothing but a bunch of little Kahns running around killing, looting, and forming thier own empire. human's are inherently evil.

theoritically communism or socialism would be the perfect governments, but men will never coexsist peacefully.

ironically my favorite band is Green Day, and right now I'm listening to KoRn (some trippy techno remixes).

/edit/ Clinton sucks, Bush sucks, all presidents suck. theyre politicians, not humans. Also Clinton (from a home military standpoint) was a serial-killer. he chopped up our armed forced REAL bad. Bush is a warmonger. Why dont we just stop sending food to all the people that want to kill us. let natural selection take its course. sit back a couple decades, then start buying up oil property. ;) no war, but no more crazies.

No. I have no comment when it comes to anarchy.

Indy is aobut listening to whatever you think sounds cool. Whatever appeals to your ear. Not what the cool kids are listening to or whats playing on the radio. Its not about opposing anyone, it's about listening to music if you like it, not matter waht anyone else thinks.

an indy band = any band not signed up with a major record label.

many of these bands don't appeal to the general public. once a band makes it into a major record label they're technically not indy anymore, although if not many people listen to them, some consider them indy.

basically indy = very unpopular music

Ohhh, one exception, HAPPY HARDCORE is usually crap. You gotta have a good beat, and then be REALLY creative in the way it plays. Exactly the opposite of what i saw in a John Mayer interview "The first record i tried to impress people with technical things to make them go "wow", but this one i stuck with 3 note chords" I like the opposite, more complexity, and keep it goin. Bullshit. It's about having a niche to call your own. The same goes for the hardcore punk crowd.

Basically I guess what I'm trying to get across is this: A band being signed to a major record label has no bearing at all upon how good or bad their music is. Judging or labeling any aspect of music based on that is almost as retarded as trying to screw a salad shooter.

Yep. It's all about having a style to call your own. I just wish people wouldn't choose a niche just because they think it makes them look cool.

That applies to both the "I listen to mainstream pop/rap" and "I refuse to listen to anything with a record label" crowd. Your just making yourself look stupid.

Not to flame, but Happy Lil Elf is right in my opinion. There are plenty of crappy little label bands. And sadly there are some really good ones on little labels to. And im sure this will come up, But saying "selling out" is preaty much in my book, teh suck. Everyone needs money, and those that have talent cannot be held responsible for little teenagers buying there music as it comes into the spotlight. If suddenly everyone jumped on Punk or anything else that you or i find appealing, should we jump "off" the bandwagons?

"The Wake of Magellin" by Savatage. And I'd recommend it to anyone who likes rock and roll. The Wake of Magellin is a full rock opera. The entire album tells a story.

hehhehe well today I have opted for a change, most days I would answer a mixed disk with such classics as, "Fucking Hostile" and "Cowboys From Hell", with new modern songs like "Click, Click BOOM", "Chop Suey", "Jet Pilot", "F the system" and some misc NIN and GNR.

BUT NO.

Today I popped "Appetite for Destruction" in the ole diskman! woo!
