View Full Version : Framerates still suck the big one!
I just finished playing for over two hours with the new patch and dammit I am so dissapointed that they haven't resolved a god damn thing with the lockups. Are you in the same boat?

it was worse fo me. why did they put more tax on the HDD? 512 should, and would be enough if they would fix the god damn memmory leaks. this was an attempt at a sidestep of the actual problem. hello devs!! now you have a new problem. boy am i tired of this stupid crap.

I'm having stuttering problems now that I never had before. I wouldn't say they ruin the game for me, but I liked it better before they happened.

I'm not getting framerate problems anymore, instead I'm getting a ridiculously frequent logout bug.
Basically I'll be in the middle of a perfectly normal fight, no warping, no sticky doors, nothing.. and the game will just say I've left the world and shortly after an "Unknown Logout Error" box will popup. It's not even logged as a crash, despite the game just shutting itself down.
It's done it at LEAST 15 times tonight, I just gave up eventually.. just as I wanted to try out this CC trial too.

i gave it another shot and guess what? still crap of course. however i made my way to a cavern and the unbelieveable happened. 100+ frames flying around and 50+ in a fight. so instead of making CC worth $30 or fixing FPS issues, they somehow force a tradeoff between "topside" frames and "cavern" frames. WoW here i come. :(
PS - $13 a month = lotsa ramen noodles, and im a cheap poor bastard, so i guess ill be buying more food.

I really wish CC didn't suck so much. I hate it more then me having to set up my damn paintball tourney. anyway, they should get rid of CC, really wish they could, and they should stick with improving the original.

Haven't tried the new patch yet .. get off work in another hour .. woo hoo! From what y'all are saying though, this doesn't sound promising. Will post my results later.

My system has frozen more often than I can count thanks to the new patch. It wasn't this bad before the patch, I was able to have some stuttering and still able to play the game than to $(*#$5 have no stutter and crash every 15-20 minutes and sometimes every 5 minutes... it just really really sucks... They should just remove the Frame rate improvement fix and fix the stuff that they had it before. I could deal with stutter but not my system freezing up every chance it gets when I'm playing planetside.

Its working ALOT better for all of my outfit mates, specially in those non large battles, when i used to get huge stutter FPS lag, now im clean and golden. Still a medium amount in base battles with lots of peeps.

Before the patch PS was pretty much unplayable for me. Any battle with more than 5 people and I'd get 2 frames the whole time. One frame of the enemy spotted and the next frame of me dead... LOL.
My system is running much smoother now. I dont get the stutter in large battles and I dont see the stuck (lagomatic) door problem anymore either. I also liked some of the nice touches they added.
I like how your mini-map remembers your indoor and outdoor settings. I always used to zoom in my mini-map to 50 feet when indoors so I could more easily navigate. Then when out doors Id zoom the map out to 200 feet to better see my surroundings. Now it auto changes zooms remembering your last indoor and outdoor setting. Pretty sweet actually
Im happy with the patch.

FYI: My system is Athlon 1800+ (1.53 ghz) 768 DDR RAM, GeForce 4 Ti 4800 SE 128 RAM, and a Plantronics DSP 400 USB digital headset (with mic). And my OS is XP Pro SP1.

I get stutter now (albeit minor) that I never got before, although I have a good comp, lots of memory and a good interlink. If I have to suffer a little stutter so people with less beefy specs can get a good game, then so be it. PlanetSide lists some pretty modest minimum requirements, so perhaps it's time they levelled the playing field.

What's funny is I spent all that time on a 56k playing this game and didn't used to have big issues. They got worse, and worse, and worse and finally this week I got a cable modem. Downloaded all the patches, went to play and had massive stutter (56kish almost) even at times when I couldn't see a single other person on my screen. FPS dropping into the red, the game freezing and coming back after 20 seconds with me dead on the ground. I do need to upgrade my RAM, but I really don't think that will help anything at this point. 512 should be enough, as was already mentioned, and I'd have a gig already if my stupid machine didn't have only 2 RAM slots.

I am all fixed....but I did not have very large fps problems. SOE didn't fix any fps issues....they fixed an on-going issue with PS requiring your OS to reserve 3gb of page file. So even with my pc (2.4c with a gig of ram) it would swapp.
One thing you can do is change all the setting in engine3d_perf.ini(after you patch and before you hit play otherwise it will re-patch) to False. If you have a p4c processor with hyperthreading I recommend turning the 2nd option to true here and then the rest to false. Also if you have hyperthreading go into the machine.ini file and change Use_Backround_thread to true.
Its not a fix...but it changes my game play from everything on med with 30-80 fps to everything on high with most of the high res textures on with fps of 80-170.
Keep in mind I have a Geforce FX 5700 Ultra and this may not work for everyone but it does work for me so my suggestion is to try it ;)

My fps hovers around 20 when I'm walking in the open. 50 in sanc, 9 in battles, and 0.5 - 5 in big battles.

I think they did good on the FPS issues i also noticed that my Load times are shorter witch is great!

P.S for all those ppl who still have probs well that jus means your comp sucks ass and go buy a new one :D
Yeah, but the problem here Black, is that it ran fine until the Core Combat patch came out. That is just plain wrong and stupid. Now they are ranting on about Windows page file this and that, but these problems were not there before the CC patch so it is pretty obvious that they screwed up their own software when they added all the new core combat stuff. Any other excuses or rationalizing they try and make is PR spin, and nothing else. They broke their own game and if they can't fix it, they need to fire somebody instead of telling tales about how its not really their fault.

try what I put in my last post Jagd. Some of the stuff in the engine3d_perf.ini file came around the time CC went in. The top most setting in there forces your system to render everything around...even what it cannot see. Both Nvidia and ATI design there cards not to do this specifically because they perform A LOT better.
with this stuff on it takes my fx 5700 to its knee's with everything on med. With all off it performs at 80-150 fps all on high ***with high res textures**.

Oh well...at least you tried ;)
--EDIT--
****PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU EDIT THE FILE AFTER YOU PATCH AND BEFORE YOU HIT THE PLAY BUTTON
if you don't the game will patch the file back because it will have a different date and thus nothing will change and you WILL have no performance change :)

It made mine go higher than it was Before CC. in big battles i get like 36fps w/ a P4 1.9(ocd to 2.0) 1gig PC2100 DDR and Radeon 9500pro. I have high settings for it 2

Made my performance stutter for about the first 2 minutes of play, then it ceased to be a problem. The real change I noticed, and love, is the way the area map resizes when you go indoors to outdoors, or vice versa. It zooms smoothly, and slow like, not automatic, like before. I love that change.
