View Full Version : Calling for Reinforcements....

I think it would be a nice idea to implement the ability to use a few key strokes to call in things such as air support or infantry from near by bases. Basically, a high ranking personnel would maybe call in extra max or infantry because the bases interior defenses or too high, and at all allied bases within a certain area would receive an alarm that so and so base needs help.
As an example, in bf1942 its always a cool sight when you're an infantry pinned down by a tank only to call in air support and see a plane swoop in and blow it to pieces. Stuff like that really adds to the war atmosphere and that this is complete, and totally war.

Unfortunately in BF1942 that never happens. I did however just get off of a 64 player server and it was awesome. How cool would it be to get 64 people to play together who knew how to use teamwork on one server. I did see JRavey from the official forums. He killed me twice with BAR and I got him 3 times with a Bazooka, so I win.

yeah it happens rarely but when it does happen it is very cool, there are a few servers I stick to where there are plenty of people who know what they're doing. A 30 second respawn timer keeps out all the idiots too.

Nac, I just played on a 64 player server too and I think there's only one. Too bad we didn't see eachother. I left because of the TKing. Too bad the planes get taken by the idiotic campers alawys jut to be crashed into a tree 15 seconds after takeoff. I think PS will change team based shooters. Also, 100 posts from l33t whore Nav. Can't wait until you make it. I hope I get to l33t sometime.

pretty good idea might be a bit hard to pull off with lag when theres hundreds of guys everyone try to do it.

I'm sure this will be part of the command system. Ability to call up re-enforcments and give status reports on certain areas of the map

Yeah, it will make commanders more useful.

That is their job. I think we'll see two sorts of cmmdrs. Small squad leaders, like a combat active sgt. who will actually be in combat. The second will be the battalion head who will rely on a RT map and squad report to issue orders. This guy might be in charge of a few bases and their defense.

They can issue rally points and such.

Good, awhile ago I thought Commanders were useless. Now I know that they're more useful than that.
What i would love is the laser pointer like in Tribes. I loved getting a heavy (or more  ) set up behind a hill somewhere while i point where hell should rain down. :D
Of course since there probably won't be artillery weapons or bombers for now it would be more or less useless but i would hope for a nice patch later. :)

Apparently, Commanders can do stuff like pinpoint combat hotspots for the rest of your empire to see. That sounds pretty close to what would happen in a real war, which is cool. It would probably bring death raining down on your enemies anyway, just not in the form of bombs.

Although, if there is an arc in tanks I think people will use them as artillery in a way.

Well Sputty, in those 1- minute quicktime PS clips, the one with the Assault Buggy vs. the lightning. The Lightning's cannon has an arc on it. Don't know if ya meant heavy tanks, or what, but maybe that helps.
