View Full Version : Sniper rifle zone damage...

I know this has probably discussed before...But still. It's just so annoying. There should be *zone* damage on the sniper rifle. You ccan shoot a guy in the foot with the sniper and still do the same damage as if you shot him in the head. SHooting people in the head should be a one hit kill. Period. :sniper:

If you changed it for the sniper rifle then you would have to change it for everthing and that would just kill our FPS and it would increase lag

It would become SniperSide. This has been discussed before and like SecondRaven said, it would increase lag.

Nope, the BD is one of the most balanced weapons in the game. With practice it becomes oh so deadly.

As much as I would like to see zone damage it would increase lag. But as a sniper I can imagine the skill level needed, and not to mention time. Zeroing in on their head from 300M away on 8x zoom would be tough, it would slow down my killing spree.
I love nothing more than an entrenched base battle, especially when I can get on a mountain somewhere away from the main fighting and just start unloading on the AV people on the base wall. Just get the reticule red and squeeze the trigger! :) rock on!

My view of the Bolt Driver:
The weakest sniper weapon I've seen in any shooter.
Deliberately hobbled by ridiculous COF because of aimbot cheaters.
So vastly inferior to 21st century sniper rifles it's not even funny.
Not nearly as deadly as people say, considering every sniper could be a shock troop actually capturing ground/holding positions.
Ideal for laggy players, a waste of effort for non-laggy players.
It's odd they should put a COF shackle on the Bolt Driver and not the Heavy Rail Beam. I'd bet a kidney I've been attacked by a MagRider gunner using an aimbot, but I won't press the point since I don't have the video-capture systems I'd need to prove it on my computer.
Anyhow, snipe all you like. I'd prefer it if all my enemies were snipers. In PlanetSide, anyhow.

Veteran Don't forget not every situation is ideal, or even offers the oportunity to snipe. Sniping has it's roll just like Infiltration suits and Galaxys.

Yes, for people that like it, and can tolerate the one-shot clip and ridiculous COF, it's fun. I don't think the game is/ever was in danger of becoming "SniperSide" and frankly, it sounds like a way for people to put sniping on the shelf so they can milk Surge/Heavy Assault in peace. Purely my opinion.

did you know that when crouch walking straight forward, your COF expands less that if you are crouching and still and move your bolty to the left by about 30 degrees

Personally, the sniper rifle is great. I get more kills in a battle than most other people and its done with a sniper rifle and nothing else. Once you learn to lead your target, and take out stealthers, its a great weapon.

it sounds like a way for people to put sniping on the shelf so they can milk Surge/Heavy Assault in peace. And yet in many large battles I see around 1/3 of the attacking force sitting on hills in nice little lines trying to take pot shots at enemies who manage to get into the courtyard instead of actually doing something to try and take the base...

There will never be hitboxes in PS unless the technology becomes available to do it, there are a ton of reasons and its been beaten to death. It just cant be done with so many people online at one time.

Sniping doesn't need to be anymore powerful, otherwise snipers will begin to dominate the outdoor areas.
