View Full Version : Budget cuts! HAHAHA NO RIFLE FOR YOU!

I read that due to budget cuts, there aren't enough rifles to go around.
Stop looking at Russia on the map. This is happening in the US of A.
Captured AK-47s are being used by tank crews because there aren't enough M4s.
Some like it better, the whole spray and pray deal. However, we have people in the line of fire without fucking guns! All some tank crews have are like one M4 and an M9 (Beretta 92F) pistol.
I also have a Small Arms Review showing the New Jersey National Guard. Due to budget cuts, they are still using Vietnam-era M60s and M119 tin can troop carriers, as opposed to the new M2 Bradleys that are needed.
Dude, I just don't want to know about the poor fucker who is IN the M119 and doesn't have a rifle, just a pistol.
So please. Don't live in New Jersey, and don't just think budget increases for the military are evil democratik imperialism.

I watched this M16 (old type) vs AK-47 show on the History Channel. They are very, very different. And keep in mind that these AKs are old as hell.
Everay
2003-11-11, 10:53 PM
yea, i agree, theyre different, but i saw the same show (i think) and in it i saw a AK47 round rip through concrete, and the old m16 couldnt.
old as hell....good point, though, you gotta realize, theyre pretty strong, but i dunno how the age would affect them

Also keep in mind the weapons are very different. And these men and women aren't trained to use foreign weapons. That's like being a pilot, and being trained to fly an F-18, then being expected to go up in an F-14 and fight a war. It's gonna be tough :p

I hate to sound like a sheep, but I am pretty sure I saw that same special... Wasn't that the one that condemned the M16 and M4 because of how often they jam... And how they are more on the "rifle" side of the assault rifle equation... Where as the AK47 was more of the machinegun type gun, and it was nearly impossible to get it to jam?
The reason I was thinking about that was Lynch said her gun jammed and no one could free it... Usefull gun...

News link or this is bullshit, and it already reaks of it.
No way would the US Army put one of our boys out there without a weapon. If any thing, the ammount of troops deployed would most likely be effected by a budget cut, not the ammount of equipment that was issued.

2003-11-12, 12:05 AM
I saw this show as well. It says the M16 was more of a rifle and the AK47 was more of a machine gun. The AK rarely jams but stuff can still go in and effect the accuracy but they can still shoot which is good. The M16 is more a of precision gun while the AK47 is just spray and kill.
I read somewhere that the government is expiermenting with this rifle that uses magnets to speed up bullets like 10x as fast. When the bullets hit something it just fucking explodes!!! Maybe there holding out until those things are the norm.
Did anyone see the show where they explain this system that allows this computer attached to the gun and helmet of the soldier aim so perfectly that it was like able to hit an asprin like 100 yards away?

2003-11-12, 12:23 AM
well, yea, i think were all talking about the same show...strange. about the magnetic rifle thing, thats a rail gun, expect to see it on tanks by the year 2012, thank god, itll be replacing the Depleted Urnaium shells we currently use.

M-16 is a precision assault rifle meant for medium to long range combat in open areas.
AK-47 is a "spray-n-pray" meant for enclosed areas where the large-ish clip can be used to saturate an area. In addition, an AK-47 is good in intence environmental areas. They can be dropped from a 2 story building, thrown into water, have the water freeze, take it out, throw it around a few more times, thaw it, then unload the full clip with no problems.
[EDIT] The point of this is (for those without reading comprehencion) that, for soldiers in the Iraq campaign where close urban combat is common - the AK-47 is preferable, even if there were enough M-16's to go around.
When you go to war.. you bring your rifle with you. You're issued a weapon the moment you enter your very first station. There may not be a ton of M4s but there sure as hell are enough M16s to go around. What do you think we did with allt he M16s after Clinton reduced the military? "Well we have to kick you out but what the hell, soldier. Take the gun with you. Maybe join the post office freaks."

I think that may be because they havent finished getting the new guns to everyone and my have run into budget cuts that are slowing htem down. As in this is and upgrade of arms not a general lack of them. Like putting 20,000 F-22 raptors into service by 2005 and saying, ohh no, those poor F16 pilots. They just recently changed the weapons to the new ones. We havent exactly been useing hte electronic site scope shit with the veiw going to your eye peice for the last 30 years. They were stil decideing and revamping the design like a year or 2 ago. Not to mention they all cost so much damn more than the weapons we usually chose to switch too. Even the cheapend versions of then. Except maybe for some of the rifles in hte 1800's. Or so they say. lol As those in the Air force know, if we didnt over price we couldnt have new toys.
Squeeky useing training for guns is jsut learning there recoil and the where the safety is in terms of complication! Its not like learning all the shit on an F-18. There are basic designs to guns that make them easy to switch between, a thousand times easier if your just shooting htem. The F-18 and other planes in our military you have learn codes and how some idiot decided to over protect the controls for useing a sidewinder. Though there a damn good deterent. 8)IE alot of technical crap with in a system with no specific design feature to help you figure them out because it would make it easier for the enemy or other countries to figure it out. Not to mention all the other things there designed for.
There no comparison between a Fighter Bomber and a Gun.
And we dont use depleted Uranium shells! We tried it in hte first Gulf War. which has been declasified and Admitted to be the cause of Gulf War syndrome. We stopped because they cause radiation to go everywhere adn hurt us and everyone else who goes near them for the next 10,000 years. We were planning stuff for them for ever even after the gulf war but we werent going ot use them.
The versions after were either the Pentigon trying to get them into service since what the Gulf War syndrome thing wasnt declasified to cover there asses or because it had other basic design features in the tanks like it being part rail gun, which was the real design they wanted to use. But we dont use them. We just use some advanced anti armor shells not that use a physical design and faster velocity to pentrate shit, and some old fashion explosive tips or afterchages to blow the insides of tanks they hit.

umm, yes, we do use them, i was watching the history channel, mail call, and the gunny went out to check out tanks, and they showed two diffrent types of rounds, the plain ol hit and break the enemys tanks armor, was the depleted uranium shell, ten times as dense as iron, and the other was a incindeary shell.

This report is flawed or misinformed.
The M4 is a smaller version of the M16. Not every US Solder has an M4, but EVERY soldier will have an M16. Tankers would be getting the M4 because it's smaller. If you've ever been in the turret of an Abrams, you know why that would be more ideal. It's not exactly roomy in there. Think of a Yugo. Think of fifty clowns at the circus. Shrink it down and that's your turret.
What is being reported, and what is true, is that US Soldiers are collecting and using the AK47 because a) it's more widely-used there, b) there is more access to ammo for it, and c) the AK variants being seen there are "para" versions- also known as the AKSU... which are roughly the size of the M4.
http://www.airsoftextreme.com/images/aksu1.jpg
And yes, National Guard and Reserve units get hand-me-down equipment. It's been that way for the last fifty years, why all of a sudden is everyone concerned? Combat units are generally given priority IF they deploy. If a Guard unit deploys, they generally trade in their CUCV vehicles for a Humvee. If they have tracks, they trade them in for better ones.
As far as the M60 goes... all of the weapons we have in our inventories are retro-fitted. So even if the weapon was manufactured for Vietnam, it has been upgraded. And if you have any common sense (and the endurance and stamina)at all, you'll take an M60 over most other weapons. Carrying the PIG isn't something for everyone, it's not as light as a rifle. But it fires a 7.62 round as opposed to the M16 round, it's automatic, and it's a nasty motherfucker to die by. I would rather carry the -60 than a stupid rifle. I am a big boy and can adequately handle the load.
Oh, and it's not M119- it's M113. The M119 is a towed howitzer (artillery), not an armored personnel carrier.

Wait, we need more money to pay people smal amounts of money on a local lv to wathc our schools and keep htem in check. People in hte community and from a local fund with minimum pay and minimum Requirement with a place to report things to to get rid of stupid htings like the new crappy text book or bad use rules. This is a rather touchy subject, and while I wish we didn't have to fight wars and everything (why can't we all just get along?) I'm gonna side with Raven. If we're sending people out to war, they should definitely have the best equipment and weapons we can give them. I know a lotta close friends and relatives in the army that are over in Iraq now and I don't want them to be hurt or killed 'cause they don't have the best we could give them.

I hate to bust on you, but this is also false.
The M4 is not the equivalent of the AK. It may be roughly the same size, but hardly anyone uses the 15-rounds magazines anymore. I would estimate myself (unprofessionally without any empirical proof) that 99.9% of the Army uses standard 30-rounds magazines. The M4 is a shorter, lighter version of the M16. The M4 is not fully automatic. The M4 is only slightly less accurate than the M16, because the barrel is a bit shorter. In terms of accuracy, I mean range. The M4 is good for CQB and long-range, and by long range I mean at ranges longer than the AK47.
The M16 is definitely not a sniper's tool of choice. The only snipers who use it in the military are unofficial snipers, and that frigging idiot John Mohammed and his butt-boy Lee Malvo. The reason for the lack of use by "real" snipers is because a sniper is nailing targets far off, and the effective range of the M16 is not as great. At distance, its stopping power is greatly reduced, and that's a product of it being 5.56 instead of 7.62. While some snipers may actually use the M16 or a version of the M16, those who are professional well-trained snipers who take pride in their job and want the best tool for the job would never use anything less than 7.62.
A real sniper will use either the M24 or the Barrett .50-cal. And the Barrett is primarily the property of special operations. The M24 is more widely-used due to the above reason. The M24 is bolt-action 7.62, and based on the Remington 700, which is a favorite of SWAT, Police, and Emergency Response teams. And I'm sure everyone knows what the Barrett-Fifty is, it's one of the most widely-mentioned sniper systems in existence (although more hyped than used).

I have made it a personal matter of pride to learn as much as I can about the job I do. I have done so for over nine years of military service and the formative years of my youth before that.
Many soldiers who serve with me do not know what an Abrams is, or why it's different from a Bradley. They don't understand the practical application of either vehicle. They could not identify a -113 from a -577. They know what an M16 is and they know what a Humvee is, that's about it. When I go to the field, or to war, I like to know what my allies are using so I don't shoot it. I like to know what my enemies are using, so I can kill it or steal it and use it. This world I live in would be so much better if people who worked/lived it would take a little freaking time to learn about these things.
I have spent many years reading all I can find about weapons, ground vehicles, aircraft, combat support vehicles, and other assorted military knowledge topics, including branching out into non-standard military hardware that might be used by special operations, paramilitary organizations, mercenaries, law enforcement, or gun freaks. I have served as a military consultant for many writers, and if there is information that I don't know, I know where to find it. Feel free to ask me any other questions.
PS: MREs suck if you don't prepare them right- all the things they give you, like salt and pepper and tobasco sauce- dump them in there and heat it up. Yum.

"Cooper also reported that tank and Bradley crews have started using captured enemy AK-47 rifles as crew protection weapons in close range fights in the reduced visibility of sandstorms. The crews are armed with 9 mm pistols, but the AK-47s work a lot better."
Is that the statement that gives you the impression that we dont have enough rifles? I looked through the bayarea.com article and it didnt say anything about running short unless I missed something. Mostly it said how some weapons were working very fine and other had some problems. Anyway correct me if I'm wrong but the articles say nothing about rifle shortage, only that Tank and Bradly crews prefer AK's over a pistol.

You're right, its only the other two "news" sites ( ) that are trying to pass that bullshit off as a legit story.
Beats me how this thread even made it past page one. *shrugs*

ROFLMAO! What a fuking moron.
The cut was because of the End of the cold War. The mindset was back then that we werent giong to need our forces for a long time so they happily cut it. And that was because fo the end of hte cold war. Everyone just thinks differently now because off all the stuff about iraq and nukes and the UN inspedtors etc for the last 8 years and the millenium crap etc.
That was just everyones mindset at the time. its not really a liberal thing.

I jus' wanna say that I think it's a shame that our army doesn't have the equipment it needs (if the articles are true?) I really have great respect for everyone who risks their life daily to defend our country and defend total strangers as well! Regardless of whether those articles are true, I just wanna give a hurah to everyone who is currently in or has ever served in our countries armed forces!!
HURAH!!
