So I recently got cable internet, upgrading from 56k and making a complete world of difference in my enjoyment of PS. Now I get to be the guy ticked off because somebody with their back turned to me somehow killed me, and I know he's on a 56k and benefitting from the client side hit detection. Luckily, those situations are few and far between and for the most part what I see on my screen is actually what's happening in the game.
After all of this time playing 2 TR characters on Johari with pings of 200 or so (unless somebody else is on the screen and then it's 500+), I have the opportunity to play with pings of 30. What do I do? I get curious one night about VS MAXs and create a new character on Konried because I have an NC on Markov and Konried pings at ~75 which is much lower than Emerald for me. I don't bother going to VR for any xp, I cert in the Quasar and head out. Not much later I have the extra points necessary for the Starfire and I cert in that. Just last night I got 3 more cert points and now the Comet is mine.
I love the VS MAXs. Love them. For some reason all 3 are at least decent at anti infantry, and I'm a big fan of plasma damage which 2 of the 3 have. I love the jump jets, and I love using them to surprise people who seem to think they're holed up in a safe place.
As an added bonus, the VS on Konried at the times I play are amazingly well coordinated and are often times owners of many conts while being the lowest pop. I've been playing with the poorly led TR on Johari for so long, I'd forgotten how fun it was to play with a well organized army. Last night the VS took a base from the TR, and then had to hold it while both the TR and NC tried to take it away. We were outnumbered by either of the two armies, but held them out for about a half hour while a number of VS locked another cont. As soon as it was locked those VS showed up like the Lone Ranger and we beat back both armies. I got too tired to stay through the whole thing, but we had two fronts going and were marching through the whole continent pretty quickly.
I had been playing PS for the extremely cool moments that you can experience in the game. For the past few nights I've been playing and having fun just about every second I'm logged in. A change of pace is just what the doctor ordered.
