I get 7 fps in a firefight now when fighting TR! It never used to drop below 30, and averaged 60!
My squad mate expericanced similar.

I was also experiencing weird FPS problems tonight. The game worked fine for the most part, EXCEPT when I looked at a base or tower. So yeah, I had a productive night tonight... :(
EDIT: Updated my video drivers (two months old! ) and my situation vastly improved

I honestly see no difference with my fps since the release of this patch. Should I see an improvement in my fps when I upgrade to 768mb form 512?

If you upgrade to 768 you'll probably see a fair change. Remeber that if a game says it wants 256MB thats 256MB of FREE ram. Your OS will use some of your memory. If like me you have 512MB of ram you actualy are only giving the game around 400 MB
The FPS problems for me were also caused by looking at certain bases. Or looking at certain walls in bases. Usualy its caused by looking at the backdoor-side wall. If I look at that wall 5-10 fps. If i look away 100. If I go into the facility through the back door and look right, 5-10fps. If i look left it gitters then returns to 100 fps. SO I ekon its something to do with that wall.

Planetside's code is doing something wrong and using up resources. READ what I said. It worked fine before, now I have problems.
