Ever since the last patch, I have been unable to play planetside. It crashes to the desktop every time. My roomie wanted to try and fix it so I let him, and after talking with tech support they insisted the router was the problem. I'm wondering if anybody else has had similar problems since the last patch. Thoughts?

i have not had that type of problem ever, yet that is. Im not sure, but it doesnt seem like the router is problem. Exactly what is happening? Can you sign in? if yes, then its prob not the router.

mine crashes all the time. Try clearing up your HDD so that you have 50-60% of space free, then defragment. Once you've done that run full scan. It could be a corrupt, or overly fragmented file.

Well all the crashes i've had, ended up fixing in a patch maybe you will get a patch and that will fix it.

If you can log in then the router is definaly not your problem.

I've had a router and it was a big problem, it let me log in but it wouldn't let me play for more than 10-20 minutes. Upgrade your firmware for the router and it might fix the problem.

Well, I tried updating my drivers with no success and eventually broke down and tried disconnecting and bypassing the router. No luck. Looks like PS gets to visit the trash can.

That was actually the first thing we tried.

When I first got the game I had to open up a bunch of ports on my router to allow the game to run for more than 5 minutes. Once I did that though, no patch has ever caused a new problem with the firewall.

Alright, her'es everything we tried in no particular order.
Update video and sound card drivers.
Update firmware for router.
Disconnect router and just use the dsl modem.
Re-install planetside.
Open up all ports on the router and delete all other firewall software.
Checked with the ISP to make sure they haven't changed any of their network settings, which they haven't.
We've talked live to PS support 3 times and EVERY time, they say it's the router. We tell them we've already tried opening all the ports, updating the firmware AND bypassing it and they just keep inisting it has to be the router.
Last night my roomie tried re-installing the router software and it took me an hour just to get that back up and working again this morning, still no dice.

machine.ini
engine3d.ini (or something)

Sounds like you didn't try what I said. :domotwak:

Sorry, I missed that one too. I do that every time I install a new piece of large software, I had my roomie do that after he re-installed PlanetSide.

The thing is, you should call them up and start peaking on the moron who tries to blame your router. If it wasn't a problem before the patch, then there is no way it could be afterwards unless it is something in the patch to do it. How shocking, SOE tries to pass the buck.

My roommate is the worst thing about this whole problem. I can handle going without the game for a little while, hopefully the next patch will fix it, however my roomie whines constantly and so far has messed up the internet connection twice while playing with the settings trying to make it work. Argh!

PS seems to be working again now.
When I got home from work last night my roomie was playing it. He told me that there was a small patch that downloaded when he started the game and miraculously, it worked. He then proceeded to play PS for the next 11 hours straight. I went to bed after 4 hours and he hadn't moved from his chair the entire time. He scares me.
