I think MAX's should have some sort of backup weapon that they can use when they run out of ammo. It would be a melee weapon and once they've discarded their main weapon the only way to get one back would be to change armors. Of course the weapons would fit that empire's style, the VS would get a big knife like the Force Blade that could be powered by the jump jet's energy thingy.
The NC would have a large battle axe almost twice the size of the MAX itself that would be slow but extremely powerful, and could be powered by the MAX's shield to give it more effect against armor, and the TR would get dual swords that would swing faster than the other MAX's weapons and they would get a special ability meter that would allow them to swing the things as fast as a mechanized assault exo-suit would allow.

Of course, there would have to be extensive balance testing but cmon, who doesn't want to be able to chop up those annoying little non-MAX bums.

Yeah, that'd kick ass. Maybe they could just bash people with their gun so that no modeling has to be done, just some animation rework?

Yea thatd be cool! As long as they made sure it had a minimuch affect on game balance. It might not be much of an issue though because you just give them a large version of an empire knife(and a free slot for it with it being the only thing that can go in it) since it would be more dangerous to be up close and you would just have to change its damage toward gruntz and armors individually to balance it!

Personally, I've always wondered why even normal people can't use their fists then they're outta ammo. I hate usuing knives, I'd rather punch somebody.

What difference would this make to ScatterMAX user? Well, their range would be the same, but they would finally be able to kill efficiently.

The only MAX that ever had ammo problems was the Quasar and now the Pounder. However these days because everyone has decimators I dont see how MAXs that are not perhaps AA could possibly live long enough to run out of ammo :)

My roomie and I actually came up with a similar idea, but we figured the MAXs should just kick. C'mon a big hydraulic leg like that would hurt like hell. Give it decent damage and knockback, but to balance it out, make it really slow and have like a 3-5 second refresh.

With a knife all I gotta do is stab you, with my fists I actually gotta do some work. MAX's IMO don't stand a chance up close to anyone with a decent armor killing weapon except for VS 'cuz of the jets.

To those of you who think melee weapons would be going too far, I also thought about the MAX's picking grunts up by their throats and throwing them across them across the ground, and for MAX's, just bash them on the head. I mean, can't you see the VS MAX crouching down and grabbing a helpless little foot soldier, standing up to full height and tossing him away like a rag doll? Or the TR MAX using both hands to chuck it's victim over it's head. The NC MAX could thump the guy on the head and then slap him away.

To those of you who think MAX's are fine now, first paragraph.

I DO think that MAXs could benefit from a melee attack, I don't really see the need for melee weapons though. I would think either smacking them with an arm or a kick would suffice.

Indeed, a simple bashing would be good. And mayhaps some augmentation to the attack using whatever sort of energy bar that MAX has.

This combat would be like futuristic medival crouching tiger hidden dragon shit. melee max=yes, knife beating axe smashing sword cutting shizniz=no



NC and VS MAXs got a spare arm. I think they should be able to punch big blows. And TR would be able to punch with both arms really fast, but not as hard.

Edit: Better yet, fix some of the range issues, and, when the MAX is in run mode, treat it like a vehicle. Run people over in it.

The max is a damn suit of powered armor, it wouldn't need weapons just the ability to bitchslap players whit a slam or something hehe.

The TR max has ammo problems? Man, I still have no idea why people still say that. When I'm going against TR I groan when I hear the constant unloading of the clip.
I think a cool melee weapon would be the blade the Zealots have in Starcraft. Maybe they should replace the knife with that. Just a thought.

I thought of the weapons as a way to harm the armor of enemy MAX's, because originally they were just for when you run out of ammo, or discarded your weapon, not a pull-out-of-your-back-wheneverthehell-you-feel-like-it thing.

The pounder has major ammo problems, it kicks out twice as many grenades as it used to, they do less damage than they used to, and reloading takes 4 (yes, 4!) white knuckled seconds of vulnerability. I'll take a Quasar over the Pounder now anyday.

Except the pounder has AoE and the Quasar doesn't, Pounder can also shoot around corners, over/under things, Quasar has a straight line of fire.

You try killing people around corners with the reduced splash damage. Since you can't see to aim around corners it needs to have a lot of saturation power, which has been hugely nerfed with the BP. Ah well, we could argue about the Pounder all day, but until you use it you won't realize how big of a waste of 3 certs it is.

EDIT: Trust me, my Vanu char is a cloaker and now when a Pounder is spamming the crap out of a doorway I only take tiny little bits of damage (like 1-5 per grenade) and have more than enough time to turn around and get out of there before being seriously hurt.

Hallways are everyone's bitches, cause your enemies can only come from 2 directions, and usually only 1.

I can see it now... A NC max waits on a base wall. Then, a little infantry man comes along. VIVA LA RESISTANCE! BAM! Pounds the poor little infantry man into the dirt...oh the possibilities.
