omgwtfbbq. stupid fucking ricers, these guys are idiots. Instead of staging at the start line, these idiots stage at the tree. The tech guy even plays with them a bit, and the crowd really gets into it. You can here people exclaiming quote "GO HOME!!" and "Fucking Noobies" among the hillarious laughter. Oh god, that would be emberassing. Not to mention, look how fucking slow that golf was, i could run backwards faster than that

A Golf is not a ricer. Hint: it is made in germany.
I'd say that "ricer" is more of a state for a car than a designation based on the country of origin.

I would disagree. I would say that German car owners are of a different breed than japanese car owners.
As an example of it not being a state for a car. Take a '69 Chevy SS, drop a huge engine, a super charger, air transmission and two stages of nitrus, you have a drag racing machine. Would you call this beast of a muscle car a ricer?
Would you call this beast of a muscle car a ricer?
well....you could. then again you could call an elephant a duck....that dont make it right.
ricer's from my day were japanese motorcycles..'rice burners' in its original form. I would lean towards cars from Asia being a ricer....maybe a german car....dunno.....a bratwurst-er? :D
american cars? hot doggers?
sweedish cars? meatballers?
british cars? fish-n-chippers?
;) mi dos centavos
I tend to call cars that have had no substantial modification (no performance increase) but many aesthetic changes ricers. That is why I would call that golf a ricer. I realize that this definition is broken by numerous examples. There is no real problem though, because a car's state of being a ricer or not being a ricer is subjective in my opinion.

So what were the modifactions to the golf that did not have a performace effect?
Except for lighter wheels, the golf looks pretty stock on the exterior to me. :p
Exactly, it probably had a fatter exhaust pipe and maybe a better air filter. Add some nice rims and maybe a couple of japanese characters to the back window and you have a ricer.

BDMJ is right on the money with the ricer definition. You could have a car with originating from fuckign madagascar. A ricer is a loud, lowered, "tricked out" car with minimal engine modifications and highly modifed cosmetically. (Rims, foglights, spoilers so they can keep traction at 65mph ). It's ridiculous

My 02 Civic EX (my baby) came with a spoiler. So far the only thing i've done with it is put in a kick ass sound system and tint the windows, both of which serve a purpose.
Once I get to germany i'll do some engine mods to it. Tinker with this and that and get a good 50 horsepower added on. Might even swap engines.
Once I get the engine up to over 200 HP, THEN i'll go for the chrome wheels and *maybe* a body kit.
Worried about the body kit, though. Seems like once you get one your limited to driving in perfectly paved areas with no speed bumps or dips.
god. being from the old 'muscle car' days, 200 hp being considered H.O. is just.....weird.
I know I know...considering the weight is about that of the 'muscle car' spare tire, the power is more than enough....still. just doesnt/never will sound HiPo to me

You'll notice that this was at the Las Vegas Speedway, where I live. There are about 20 civics in my school parking lot alone. Must be around 5 billion in the whole city.

Indeed.
And those things fucking sucked, I would burn them both while sleeping behind teh wheel. 380HP SC/V8 > Shitty Ricer

Seriously.
I wen't down to El Centro for a camping trip. We saw so many ricers. and the business district near my house is fucking insane. They put in speed bumps every 100 feet because they would use that long stretch of highway for racing.

I want a Mustang Cobra from 2001 (320 HP non S/C), bolt on my own blower (maybe a nice Paxton Novi 2000 and bolt on 150+ HP) and eat ricers for breakfast.
Just those two. No body kits, outlandish paint, rims, etc. The super sleeper.

Fuckit. Three buddies and I could outrun that in our rowing team boat. Provided he goes on land and us on water.

The black car I dont think was a Golf, it was a GTI and hopefully higher than a V6. The golf and GTI look the same exept the GTI has bigger rims and is meant for speed. I actually have one, cool car and very fast so I don't know why it was movin so slow in the race, it should've blown away that other car.
I call Hondas and asian carsa ricers. Its how people use it around here anyway.
like Hamma (I think) said, he seems to have started in (at least) 2nd gear.

Dude, my brother's automatic Cherokee could dominate those things ;)
I agree though, they prolly started in 2nd gear :P there's no way even a cheap car like the golf could go THAT slow...
200 hp isn't too much considering some cars come stock over that. Take a Supra for example: the TT version is stock 325 hp at the wheels i believe...or the 300zx TT literally pushes 300 hp so
sad to see so many ppl (not necessarily including you Tek :) ) modifying civics and thinking they can win something. Civics are best for show and that's about it (cuz civics have pretty much every body kit etc. made for em ) To make a civic worth racing you'd hafta invest quite a bit of cash.

a ricer is indeed the state of a car,
just generally when a person has done way too many things to the outside of his car (huge wings, body ktis, clear tail lights, neons, carbon fiber everything, too much chrome too many "performance" stickers (no your fucking 4 banger civic is not a type-R)

Hmm, as i see it the state of "rice" is a severe imbalance of performance and styling. i.e. if your car is fast enough then extra ground effects etc. is fine but your car should be able to back up what it looks like.

not true, no matter how fast your car is, ugly is ugly.
but your car should be able to back up what it looks like.
very true. (well at least that is one view point, which is why i see a lot of busted up camaros and mustangs or ones that are primer grey. they've spent thier money on the performance first.)
Damn that Golf was really slow.
