Man, Tuesday night the DragonWolves got rather "intimate" with Ruks. He had that Maelstrom going and pretty much whiped us up good. But we held that tower for almost an hour.

What software do you use to encode the movies? What is your setup? Just wondering, because I've been in the process of putting together something for the DragonWolves.

Go check out our forums www.rnsnetwork.com theres a couple of threads about making movies etc on there, i don't do it myself, sorta promoting the outfit on here :P If ruks owned a few of you, you haven't seen him gunning a Mag yet, we sat on the side of a bridge and mauled tons of Vguards, it was hilarious seeing them try to climb over the wreckage of the dead vguards, before exploding themselves....I hope he got it recorded :D

Not a bad flim at all i liked it....the only thing i really noticed was that the foot soldiger was shooting at targets that did not move much...but besides that it kicked ass

Yeah, the tale of the colourblind NC, he musta just saw the vanguard and thought 'woo, they need repairing' he never noticed it was in a nice purple hue.

Never noticed, yeah Ruks does pretty much own, but you don't see the times we are getting owned by the NC. We never seem to have any problems with the TR on emerald, we have nice battles with em that can last a good few hours, but when the NC zerg shows up, we just bail, fighting the NC is like banging your head on a wall....just do a /who teams on Emerald.

Props to the TR for thinking tactically and capping the other conts while we fight the NC though, well done :)

i love fighting the NC, its hard as hell, its alot easier fighting TR, but theres a sense of satisfaction taking out 2 vanguards without having to repair your mag :D

Hey guys,

Sentrosi, you asked how we encode the videos. I'm not sure if you're asking how we record em or how we encode em so I'll answer both :) I recorded the NC blooper, and the second one raik just posted showing the battle at the bridge. Common made the first one so you'd have to him about that one.

As for me, my game machine has an ATI radeon 9500 which can do tv output at 1024 x 768 meaning I dont have to play at low res if I want to record :) I pipe that signal, along with audio output from my soundcard into a second machine, which has video capture. I capture to mpeg2 at 720x480 (DVD res). I do my editing in mpeg2 format, and then when I've got the video the way I want it, I re-encode it to XviD, crunching the filesize down to something more friendly. In terms of software, I would recommend something that does smart mpeg2 editing, re-encoding only the parts where you cut, such as honestech video editor. I use the Gordian Knot software bundle to encode to XviD at the end.

Unfortunatly my method does require two computers, one with video capture capability. I know there is software that can capture directly on your gaming PC, but from what I understand it only caps 640x480 and doesnt cap audio. Also it hits your FPS hard.

Hope this helps.

Also wanted to say I had a blast with that Mealstorm tuesday night. That gun is wild. No reload, instant line of sight fire and no crazy cone of fire.

Thanks for the info

My sister-in-law upgraded her pc to a 2400+ (was a 1700Xp if I'm not mistaken) so I've got a spare processor lying around. I could easily build another machine, but what vid capture card are you using on your recording PC? I've seen some that range from $50 to $90 and just want to get a nice quality one without spending a fortune. My wife hears I'm building another PC and she'll go into epileptic siezure!

I have Adobe Premier 6.0, and I think that encodes in MPEG-2, just not sure. Are you running S-video out or just plain RCA plugs out to the PC?

The vid card on my second PC is an ATI All in Wonder Radeon 7500. As far as 3D acceleration its certainly dated, but the vid capture works well for me. I don't have personal experience with many other vid capture cards, except that I once tried an ATI USB vid capture dongle, and it was absolute crap. The only other thing to keep in mind, is that to get nice source material its ideal to capture at a pretty high bitrate, meaning you need some decent hard drive space on the vid capture machine. I usually end up with 5 gigs or so of data after an evening of capturing stuff.

In terms of connection I use an S-Video cable.

Premier is good software, I'm sure it will work well. If you want to encode XviD or DivX or some other high compression codec at the end, there are plenty of freeware tools to do it.
