Who feels WW2 games have outlived themselves? MOH then BF1942 then Return to Castle Wolfenstien, Call of Duty, throw in 100 expansion packs and thats almost all of them.

The only problem I really have with WW2 games is that they all seem to use the complete crap Quake3 engine. Yes, I admit it was good in its day, but its time for retirement PLEASE!

Why not use a more stable engine? Engines like HL or UT were designed with mods and/or new games in mind. Hell, use the never-used but still awesome looking Max Payne engine for all I care, but a 5 year old base engine?

PS - Jedi Knight 2 is another game that uses this engine, and that game runs like shit and is as buggy as all hell.

Its a great engine, but its time to retire yes. The next big engine will be doom 3. Possibly HL if they license it out.

As for WWII - the games have run their course. They are all the same game with different controls.

im thinking Doom3 seeing as how the HL2 will probably never see the light of day.

though im hoping the UTWarfare engine takes the cake

Yes, get rid of the engine. Maybe put in a new one with one of those new catalystic converters.

EDIT: Actually at least RTCW deviated from the normal storyline a bit.

I do get sick of playing WW2 games. That's why I play the DC mod for 1942. I dont' want to kill Germans. I want to kill Iraqi people and steal their oil. :D

I've already reserved my copy of CS: Condition Zero.

I would play Planetside but I'm to cheap to pay a monthly fee. Besides.. don't you feel obligated to play that game sense you pay for it?

One WW2 game that I'd really like to see is one that puts you into the role of your standard everyday soldier. Not some special forces guy who goes to austria to rescue downed pilots or some douchebag who and fights nazi zombies(wtf?). In MOH they actually did Operation Overlord that was cool. I'd like to see some other real levels too like bastogne and uhhhh, yeah I'm not exactly a historian here but you get the point right?

WW2 games are OFN. With the exception of CoD

BF 1942 lets you be a standard cannonfodder.

Yeah true forgot about that one but I think of BF1942 as more of an online game. Meh I dunno the whole ticket thing.

BF 1942 has nothing to do with WWII outside of it's textures though.

I'll be happy when they finally make a game that lets me play as a german infantryman on the russian front, but that won't ever happen.

You can play that game offline?

oops: ;)

But.. why would you want to play offline anyway?

There's no real joy in beating the computer. After you own an AI you can taunt it all you want and it doesn't care. People on the other hand get really pissed off. They scream, yell, bang their heads on the keyboard, and do all sorts of amusing things. That's what ownage is.. breaking someone.

If you can beat everyone around you you can easily beat the computer anyway. I stopped playing the offline version of most games a long time ago. There's just not enough challenge in AI. AI is generally stupid and is programmed to react certain ways. Once you figureout how the AI reacts you can easily own it. People, on the other hand, are sometimes without reason and just do things that if nothing else amuse you. Like running away only to be shot dead just before they make it over the hill. Or run past you as in search of what you were running from only to be swatted by the incoming Bradly. Watching their teammate die and then just sitting their like a dear in headlights while the crosshairs lock onto them. Jumping right infront of you while you're shooting and then screaming at you because they caught your bullets. Pulling a squirel and running out infront of your hummer and then woundering why they died. Shooting at the blackhawk with their M16a2.. yeah.. like my minigun fears you.

List goes on and on and on. :D

Call of Duty owns, period. It's one of the only single-player campaigns I've ever considered running through again just for fun.

Owns I tell ye! Harrr.

oh and hte problem with WWII games is every asshat with a box of leggos thinks he can make one. Truth is there are only a few great ones out there, and those i never tire of.

I would love to see a WWII game where its realistic , i.e. one shot kill, and you are part of a squad, kinda like Americas Army or Rainbow Six III but on a much larger scale ,

No one wants to play a one shot kill game. Besides.. it usually takes more than one bullet to kill someone. The first one sends them to the ground screaming in agony and then you scream "I said supersize, bitch!" and finish them with the next 17 rounds. ;)

Just think of the immersion! Think of it! Think of it damn you!

Gimme seamless gameplay (ala Halflife), gimme regular troops, give me regular enemies. Give me the ability to choose if I want to be an infantryman or pilot and give me a career mode where what I do on the battlefield directly affects my "life". Got a game like that?

Yeah, Planetside

Kill the Q3 engine for shure, the UT engine looked better but it knew when it should have died (probably cause of UT2003). Just give me UT2004 :)

(or at least the onslaught demo....)

It is pretty funny that you mentioned Jedi Knight II... I just reinstalled that this weekend and played it for several hours... That is one damn good game!

The physics are absolutely perfect. And I have no clue what you mean by the game running like shit. I have a pretty beefy machine (Athlon XP 2200+, 1.5 gigs of DDR, GeforceFX 5900) but the game ran flawlessly at 1600x1200.

One thing that totally kills the immersion of a game for me is when the framerate drops below 30 FPS.

A good example is I just played Planetside again, and I was coming up from the basement of a tower and I ran into 4-5 enemies against 4-5 of our guys. This should have been the pinnacle of Planetside fighting right? Negative! Even with my half decent computer on a cable, with the graphics at near crud level I was not pulling more then 6 FPS! Every mouse movement would be a massive over correct.

At least Quake3 based games can get their minimum of 80 FPS constantly and still look half decent. And the Quake3 physics engine is what I consider to be perfect in a FPS. It is fast enough to not bore you to death, but it is not "Hi, my name is billy, I just ate four pounds of speed" like UT2003.

When T:V comes out there I think there are going to be a lot of people who love to kil online and are sick to death sick of WW2 games. I wouldn't be suprisded to see T:V do awesome due to that fact alone

lol no.

but what i really want is the PS beta experience. 50 Gals in the sanc. Massive coordinated strikes. Not running from Hossin with the CR5's tail between my legs cause there is a spitfire turret firing on Oshur.

Tribes2 gives me enough "blowing shit up", with PS hell ya I want more! Or if not more maybe they could focus on the current, never-dying bugs as opposed to a never used expansion pack.

who wouldnt want a more compelling game experience? just cause we blow shit up doesnt mean it cant have substance.

Yeah thats what I meant by my first post. I'm looking for a realistic single player game. Mplayer is great fun I know but it gets rather dull for me. You know like if they took the d-day landing in mohaa and made it an mplayer map(they actually might have I haven't played that game mplayer) and kept the axis with all the good positions the allies wouldn't stand a chance. Human players with those mg42s would kill everything. Thats why you need the computers to make it a fun game, not totally impossible. Mainly I'd just like to see some real life battles instead of all this covert ops stuff in games like MOHAA and RTCW and even CoD.

How about total victory? Not taking someones base only to lose it 5 hours later. No.. total victory. The game is over, your team won, restart the map.

... don't shoot me. :(
