The Americans had also wanted to travel with a piece of military hardware called a 'mini-gun', which usually forms part of the mobile armoury in the presidential cavalcade. It is fired from a tank and can kill dozens of people. One manufacturer's description reads: 'Due to the small calibre of the round, the mini-gun can be used practically anywhere. This is especially helpful during peacekeeping deployments.' The man is insane. He wanted a minigun? Out of his fucking mind. You are the president, not rambo. And let's be prefectly honest, any method the terrorists we know would either be bomb-based (disarming an explosive with a high-velocity machinegun isn't smart or practical) or would involve circumstances where a minigun wouldn't help (indoors?).
You could probably spend the money on more practical and inexpensive weaponry that would be better suited for the likely situations. (More snipers, buy a set of that reactive stuff from the Army, I mean, c'mon, laptop gun!?. Use your imaginations here.
And I love the manufacturer's description.

They wanted a mini gun? god that like saying, we don't trust your police to the point we will bring a mini gun to fend off the hordes of assasins.
Yeah Peace keeping with a minigun, sounds like a conservative idea to me.

Yeah see there are a few problems with this garbage. Miniguns are not fired from armor. The *ONLY* "minigun" that has EVER been mounted on mobile armor was an air defense system (also known as "anti-air" by the non-hablars)that was mounted on an M113, and that was Vietnam-era. If I were the leader of the free world with access to weapons, I sure as fuck wouldn't use a 40-yr old piece of equipment like a -113. I'd go with a Bradley if it was dirt road or a Marine Corps LAV (and not that piece of shit Striker) for hardball. The only small-caliber miniguns in military service are mounted on helicopters and the occasional slow-moving plane. I would hardly consider a helicopter as "mobile armor".
Furthermore, tanks and mobile armor do NOT accompany a presidential cavalcade UNLESS the cavalcade is an entirely military motorcade. And since the President is a civilian and thus protected by civilian agencies, and thus travels mainly by civilian cavalcade, odds are that would never have happened any way. The only time a president is in a military cavalcade is when he or she is traveling to a US Overseas base in a forward area. And even then, its generally in suped-up armored full-size Chevrolet Suburbans.

I bet the laptop gun shoots out razor sharp floppy disks. :rolleyes:It's obvious you've never played Perfect Dark. Nor have a sense of humor. It was said to illustrate a point.
Sit down, please.
Bush sure is paranoid. It's almost as if he knows 2/3 of the world wants him dead.

Yeah, I know, arguably the most important person in the world, as they say. But I can't see a situation where a minigun would be useful in any way, except for a full scale street war or armed riot, in which case I'd imagine you'd be fucked eventually anyway.

Why do we need fighter aircraft? I'd have a small contingent of about 8 Eagles at Heathrow or Gatwick, whatever's closer, but yes to the helicopters. In case of emergency, riot police go into action, Pres gets whisked out by a Blackhawk to Heathrow/Gatwick.
A minigun is excessive. I don't think that the crowd will go that violent.

You guys realize the mini gun is most likely mounted on the damn black hawk right? Think it through people, it makes sense. Although I'm sure you guys were the CIA's first choice for security, but you weren't availible because you were too busy telling the rest of the world how to run from you desk, I think it's safe to say the Secret Service might have a clue what they're doing...

Bush is one of the most powerful people in the world. ANY US Pres is very important, they don't take any chances. But yes, a Mini-Gun is overdoing it a bit.

Dude I pointed this out earlier twice and people still think the White House wanted some tank with a minigun on it.
Apparently informed information based on fact and first-hand knowledge means effectively jack and shit, when compared to "OMFG D3M0CR@TS SUXX0RZ!" or "I'm right because I say so and you're just an argumentative prick".

Put it on the Blackhawk. But it still makes no sense, tactically. They make it seem like they're expecting Somalia. I don't see how any situation big enough to warrent a minigun can be solved by turning the English weather into a vertical hail of bullets. I just can't imagine when a minigun would be useful. Surely they could employ more useful equipment, no?
Just throwing out conjecture.
[Edit: That was kind of unclear. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that if you needed to use the minigun, you'd be in a untenable situation anyway.

I'm not going to comment on my personal feelings on Bush (let's just say I don't care much for his "leading" style). He is going overboard with this extent of security requests.

Nope....its one of the few N64 games I own/played(sadly).
And no1 gets my stupid jokes..... :(
He wants to do something. he doesn't want that shit for protection, he wants it for assault. This is the first time i've heard of this and i'm thinking wth didn't he ask/use this when he went to other contries?
Just my opinion.

So? Its a show of force to make people think twice about doing something. If someone goes into a gas stop to rob it would they be more likely or less likely to do it if they see a police officer inside? Would you be more likely to attack someone who was 6'2" 265 pounds or 5'6" 135 pounds? Its a show of force to make people think twice....interesting thing is how some of those people that preach peace can be so violent.

K now i'm kinda supporting the minigun after what i heard on the news last night. But not on the streets ontop of tanks ahd shit, just inside when everyone thinks he's asleep but instead he's running off the walls lika ninja with his minigun in one hand and his tax numbers in the other.
Or instead of a minigun, just like some special ops soldiers gaurding him throught Britain.
