View Full Version : Restrict Access to Locked Continents

I think I read another post similar to this and I cant find it now but here are a few ideas that I think would make global battles mean more and also group people together.

Basically my idea breaks down to one thing; turning all warp gates on a continent to sanctuary type warp gates i.e. faction based when you lock it. That in addition to no HART drop means if you take a continent only your empire has access to it.

You can open a Cont to your empire if you manage to Cont Lock another with a mutual warp gate.

If you lock a continent that has an enemy's Sanctuary warp gate that gate will become neutral not letting passage either way.

You can gain access to a locked continent through the caves.

As always you can HART Drop on your Empire's locked Continents or Currently disputed Continents like it is now.

I think this will give locking a continent much more meaning. There will be less "the cont is lost, retreat" mentality. People who want to go solo running around destroy enemy stuff without a significant enemy presance still can, do to the front lines and it gives their sabotage more meaning. When a continent is locked it would give the losing force a huge need for infils who would spread accross the entire continent to hide, sabotage or anything they can think of while they can still respawn on the continent. The caves would be a means to get in the "back door" to unlock a continent increasing their significance. And most importantly it would get people together because they couldnt get to any continent they wanted by taking the long way around.

If an Empire did manage to lock everything it would be a significant achievement, then it should reset to everything neutral (it is a game afterall) but I dont see a way that this could happen not with three empires all needing at least 1 neutral or empire locked cont to fight. I really dont see how any one Empire could even shut out one single empire other than increadably poor tactics and leadership.

As I see it if one empire were to take every cont but one the other two empires would join forces to kick the dominant empire, but again I dont see how any empire could lose all their locked conts but then thats what the test server is for right?

newho i think that if maybe one or two of those ideas were implemented, but not all of them, it could be kool, becuz if all wer eput in it woudlb be to hard to break

I had an idea that would make locked conts very tough to cap, which, the entire cont is a SOI, so all the benifits extend on the whole cont, be able to respawn at any base there, and some other handy benifits

You would end up with people locked in sanctuary at some point. That would be complete shit. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. This is especially the case when SOE is in charge.

Ugh.

Make HART timer 30-60 minutes. Stop the "why get a Gal? I can just recall and drop!" mentality.

Once a continent is locked the warpgates are only useable by the empire that locked the contient. Perhaps leave geowarps open to encourage more conflicts in the caverns.

Allow people to HART on to any continent, locked or otherwise. Force people to actually put effort in breaking a lock. Being able to drive through a warpgate with 10 tanks, a dozen AMSs and a huge zerg defeats any point to locking a continent.


Forgive me if I'm wrong but the only way I see to break a lock in the system you present is to go through the tunnels. That'd be retarded, not everyone has CC. It could also concievably lock an empire to only their sanc. Now I wouldn't have a problem with that (assuming it wasn't a really common thing) since I have other things I can do and would be a great excuse to spend some time playing other games while TR and VS slug it out over the remaining continents. However I can almost guarentee you there would be quite a few people who would bitch to no end if they couldn't play for a couple of days.

No, then at 2:00 AM some assholes are going to take over the planet, and nobody will be able to play, effectively making one side win and one server useless and hundreds of people quitting :)

Stop vehicles from going through warpgates? That's quite possibly the stupidest suggestion I've ever heard.

Sorry to be so harsh, but come on, all it would do is seriously ruin gameplay. It would help nothing. Allowing people to HART to a locked continent? That would make it a million times worse as well. Then you'd have people HARTing in to drop generators at key module bases to make the invasion a million times easier. If you have to drive/fly to a continent it is more difficult to co-ordinate, plus you are restricted to following the normal laws of time, space and travel to get your invasion started.
