View Full Version : Hello! ...and a quick question
Since I tend to lurk around here a bit, I thought I'd make a (very) quick intro post and ask a little question.
Hello! (short intro eh?)
Anyway, my question is... what's the deal with headshots? Lately I've seen several remarks both here and the official forum about there being no location-based damage.
While I'm sure the damage model is and always was designed to be pretty simple, I could've sworn I saw something about there being at least 2 hit locations - Head and Everything Else.
So what's the deal here? Did they change it so there are no 'headshots,' or was I just imagining things?
Oh, I've also made my first-ever forum sig picture, so please bare with my n00b-ness if it doesnt work quite right :D

So far there are no headshots or any region specific damage of any kind. That's what the devs have said. Anything else is stuff people want or is speculation.

At this point and time I couldn't tell you bud. Most of the topics on this and the other forums are stipulation untill the game launches unless we have had clear and reliably answers from reliable resources like devs or staff members that have played PS. Good to have you aboard Vash  Love that anime series Trigun btw. Man your pick with the NC shield symbol is awsome.
Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.
I knew I should've held off on submitting my interview questions right away, but oh well.. I'm sure others will ask the same question anyway :)
And thanks for the kind words Ranger! I tinkered with it off and on all evening. I'm happy to say it looks pretty decent on the actual board ^_^

Scan some older threads too. They may answer your questions. Hope we could help.

here's the deal with head shots... When you get shot in the head... IT HURTS... A LOT
SO you don't wanna get shot in the head:sniper: :drools:

Thanks so much for clearing that up Bighoss. All of us can sleep a lot better now that we all know. That kept me awake for hours on end worrying about it. People can't even post a simple question without being flamed.

it wasn't being flamed just giving you a common sense answer in what games in the past 3 years have come out have head shots not done a ton more damage?

So far there are none. It makes sense they aren't in PS too. Unles you emant in real life where any shots are bad.
its a Q that obviously needs to be clearified and now that beta is almost out, it might have been implimented....why dont you try adding that to your dev interview questions?
and bighoss, yes it is common sense since every game has had it for a while, but since this is an MMO, it might have been taken out to simplify the coding to reduce lag

I think the reason why the devs chose to leave it out was because of gameplay/balancing rather than lag.
Here's a very recent post by Dave that (re)confirms the whole lack of headshot deal (http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/planetside/Forum2/HTML/001729.html)
Oh well, maybe we'll still see it some time <shrug>

They put it in for a very good reason. To keep the massive spray fests from being effective like in other games where you luckily get a headshot.

If that was their concern, then why is there a cone of fire at all and not pixel perfect aiming? At distances, any hit is some part luck with a cone of fire.
I don't think it had to do with landing lucky headshots.
