It dosen't specifically say it's a demo, but this close to release (2nd of next month), I don't forsee it being a video. All signs point to demo imo.

The guys on the Deus Ex 2 forums are worried that it's going to be subscriber only, but apparently one of the higherups from Gamespy just posted on the official forum that it will be open to everyone. This may or may not be true, but once again, it would be illogical to release an exclusive demo this late in the game.

FOOTNOTES
-------------
1. Probably a demo, released tomarrow.
2. Known release site is Fileplanet.
3. Probably public (Non-subscriber)

EDIT: after reading it, maybe the DX team have made an army of shaved monkies and taught them how to use guns!?!?

You know what makes me laugh? The Best Buy here already has Deus Ex 2 preorders on the shelf and they have Friday set as the date to put the preorders for KotOR for PC on the self, which was released yesterday.

Fucking tools >_<

Wait, wait, wait. They have actual, playable boxed versions of the game on the shelf? On what system?

What part of that is hard to comprehend? They have the preorder boxes on the shelf (empty box you take up to the cash register to preorder). They obviously wouldn't be putting the actual copy of the preordered game on the shelf, as that would sorta defeat the purpose of preordering it...

I do believe that completly defeats the point of preordering it. Unless it came with the manual or a book about DX2. Those things are sometimes worth it to preorder a game.

If it's a preorder box, then who the fuck cares? If it's the full KOTOR game, then what does one have to do with the other? Some logic to your statements, I beg...

Demo delayed to tomarrow at earliest, monday or tuesday at latest.

Here, LNS, lemme run through this again for you. This time some reading comphrehension, I beg....[quote]You know what makes me laugh? The Best Buy here already has Deus Ex 2 preorders on the shelf and they have Friday set as the date to put the preorders for KotOR for PC on the self, which was released yesterday.

Best Buy had Deus Ex preorders on the shelf (the empty box you take up to preorder the game).

Best Buy did not have KotOR on the self even though the game has already been released.

They had/have today (friday) set up as the day to put the KotOR preorder boxes on the shelf (again, the empty box you take up to the cash register to preorder the game).

Deus Ex 2 will not be released for awhile yet and they already have the preorder boxes out. KotOR was released tuesday and they didn't even have the preorders, and thus obviously didn't have the game itself, on the self and indeed had their release date set as the 25th a week after the actual release date.

Do you understand now, grasshopper?

It's on Fileplant now, not subscriber only like I thought.

It's going horribly slow, too many people downloading... don't know why I subscribe to Fileplanet sometimes....

They capped subscribers at 50K/sec Irenicuz :/ I don't think I will renew my FP subscription, this is the second large item I have downloaded and been capped at 50K/sec.

But I did get it downloaded and played a little... First thing I noticed was the graphics look a bit dated, only slightly better then Quake3. Combat did not have the nice flow that games like Quake3 or even Planetside have.

Also there are a lot of reports on other boards of people with fairly nice systems (as in 1.5Ghz+, Geforce4 or Radeon 9700) getting terrible frame rates.

I never played DX1, but I won't be buying DX2, thats for sure.

50k/sec would be about right for me on my dsl... right now I'm getting 8k/sec ...

EarlyDawn

Your drivers are probably dated. Just got the new Catalyst drivers and besides some graphical artifacts when talking to characters, it runs 10x better.

Elf: That's a nice story. Don't know what else to tell you.

I think it's execelent so far. The technical issues are pretty serious, but I was able to solve them pretty easily. The new biomods rule, and the gun selection, while not the best, is ample. Can't get a grip on how the storyline will play yet.

Funny concept, a demo of a demo. Is this a game or a tech demo? Or a video? DLing along with Max Payne 2 Demo. God, it's the first time all week I've been able to do this.

I just played it, and I found it annoying that the controls reset every time you would change the map. I am unimpressed by some of this things, one being the fact that there is no reloading, or numerical ammunition display. Also the mouse controll felt very unresponsive. I found that the articiafting can be removed if you deselect the "bloom" option in the video menu, or turn your texture samples down to 1x. I am also annoyed by the lack of cool inventory. They changed way too many things that were good in DX1, and made them worse. Also, what happened to the option of entering a login/password instead of just automatically hacking a computer. It really detracts from the feeling of accomplishment. The graphics got better, but the game certainly did not. I liked the dynamic of the old DX, and they should have kept it.

This demo sucks. If the full game is at all like this, I won't be even considering Deux Ex 2 in the future.

I too, was seriously dissapointed. For the amount of time put into this game, and the stuff I had read, there's really very little to show for it. The engine looks powerful, but poorly pieces together and not refined, even at the highest resolutions. I'm quite dissapointed as this game was going to be up there with HL2 and D3 for me. Guess not.

The radial interface is a step backwards. This is for console fans. I am particularily annoyed at it going back to default controls every time you load, or go to another level. The transfer of items back and forth from the toolbelt is cumbersome and tedious.

STORYLINE! We have no idea what the fuck happened. It's been 15 years, and something called 'the collapse' occured. That's it.

Hacking was prevously a challenge. Now you walk up to whatever the fuck you want and right click.

They just don't die! It takes like five shots to the face to kill a baddie. Even with a flamethrower, it takes forever for them to die.

I can't run above 800x600 without getting bad FPS, but my computer is getting old (512 RAM, GF3). The lack of reloading, I think, will be explained. I think ammo is extracted directly from clips. Or something. Also notable is that the ammunition is generic. A pack will fire with a shotgun or a flamethrower with equal ease.

And Alex looks like a whimp. Give me my Boondock Saints haircut with a trenchcoat, please.

There are some good things. First of all, I like how it automatically goes to your multitool when you select a locked door. The effects are, in general, cooler. However, they aren't amazing. The gun models are much better than the old ones.

This demo is a bad omen.

The fact that the game was made for the Xbox also, (thereby degrading the quality) makes me want to go find the creators of the Xbox and shoot them in the fucking face. The fact the interfaces are now almost completely lacking in usefu, mouse control just goes to show what consoles can do to games that should be good.

what the crap

this game has the most confusing interface ever, the most confusing plotline ever, the worst camera system ever, and my game crashes outright when the chick in the room throws the grenade thing at me

The technical issues are serious and the devs have said they'll be shaken out for the full version.

go to www.ionstrom.com/forums and find the appliacable section. There's a thread for tweaks to your demo for Trilinear shading, vertex lighting, smaller font, and more realistic headshots.

Unified Ammo system: Dosen't really bother me, so I'll reserve judgement. Would have liked reloading though.

Storyline: It's just a demo. The story will be huge in the full game, take heart.
