I love Vanu MAXes. The Quasar kicks infantry ass, and the alt-fire takes down enemy MAXes and light vehicles like nobody's business, unfortunately it eats ammo like fat kids eat McDonalds. The Starfire is my second favourite, cause it is also really good at taking out infantry, but can also blast a reaver from the sky with no questions asked. And of course nothing beats those jump jets. Anchors away, bring on your force fields, I'd rather be hopping over walls and climbing onto roofs to rain down death from above on the unsuspecting jackhammer fools. Muahahahaha. :D

Erm, can you tell I just traded in my Reaver after levelling up to get the Quasar and Starfire back? Reaver is sooo much fun, but the Quasar's kill power outperforms even my best/luckiest reaver runs.

i dunno, i think the quasar is the most underpowered AI out there...i think it just takes down ppl to slow...i beat them all the time in tower battles with my phoenix...even with reload times

1)fire
2)hide next corner up one flight of stairs
3)come out when the max just starts to come up the stairs ur on
3)rinse and repeat

I'll take the Quasar over any other MAX in the game. Try it out for a while, and don't forget to use the jumpjets. Being in unexpected places improves your kill ratio dramatically.

I agree, vanu have the best maxes.

The only thing I've found the shield useful for is reloading, prolonging the inevitable when an infantry circle strafes you, or running down a backdoor at full speed.

The poor TR maxes have lock down which gets them killed half the time. I've also managed to kill a TR Burster with agile and a guass since I cornered him in a tower and his shots whent past me, they've deadly verus aircraft though.

I dunno. NC MAXes have it good. Even when I played as VS/TR I always got pwned by the AV MAX, and occsionally the AI MAX. ScatMAX has the great ability to be both AV and AI at the same time.

However, a VS Quasar who remembers to shoot with AV beams instead of AI will pwnz the Scat, even at point blank. Either that or I was lagging like a bitch, cause that sucked total ass.

In my opinion the NC Scattermax is the king at MAX on MAX fights indoors. It's especially good at taking down locked down TR MAXs. All you do is turn on your shield, sashay your bricklike butt up behind them and let loose at .5m. :D

You've gotta be smart about it though as so many TR have one kind or another of AV weapon at hand so you've gotta take them out first. I find that full choke on the scatter is the best against regular infantry at any range.

As far as the Quasar goes, I never want to get caught facing one of them as infantry. It's a express ticket to the respawn tube.

Vanu MAXs are by far the best right now. A lot of it has to do with the fact they can jump away from Decimators

Quasar MAX r teh uber! Seriously I love that MAX, it's so much fun to play. I'll definitely take it over the scat or pounder anyday. Very versatile!

i also love my vanu maxes. my favorite is the Comet-although i think the clip size should be upped a little ;) i love the Quasar second best.

the Starfire...i think it sucks for almost anything other than AA. it doesn't have the spash damage like the Comet, but it fires kinda like one. so, you have to be really accurate with it-and it only can fire 8 rounds per clip. that is ok for AA(thats all it takes to take down a mos or reaver) but against infantry troops, i usually have trouble. it is good for taking out turrets, or i can even take other maxes with the starfire sometimes:)

One amazing thing about the SCAT and the rest of its NC brethren is the shield. If ur really, really good, u can sometimes manage to block incoming decis with a quick shield activation

TR MAX == coffin suit.

I wanna swipe VS' MAXs and paint them red.

Comet does not need it's clip size increased. It's the only MAX that can take out another MAX with a full clip that fast.

The VS got their jumpjets but the NC got shields, which is IMO a much better offensive capability. The TR are the best defensive MAXs hands down, and being able to keep your enemy inside their own base really comes in handy.

i think the clip size should be upped a little

your right, i shouldn't have used the word should. that was too powerful. what i meant was it would be nice :devilwink

Close quarters, the Starfire kills infantry without a reload. You just have to adjust to leading the target a lot because the orbs travel so slow.

Vanu Max are great. I play Vanu on Konried and I love them all. My roomie is awesome with them. I've seen him really tear up a battlefield with them.
TR Max's work alright. They are much more defensive than offensive. I have friends who play other empires and they always talk about what a bitch it is to try and take a tower from TR because the max's lock down and cover all the entrances.

you up the comet's clip size, and you gotta make the DC pack more punch and be a helluva lot more accurate, and the falcon would need a stronger punch as well as more accuracy for range.

Vanu MAXs are indeed fun and effective.

I recall that post-balance-pass poll on PSU's front page where everyone voted TR MAXs the best MAXs. I still chuckle when I recall it.

I could write a comprehensive explanation about why TR MAXs are subpar, but I prefer to let the numbers do the talking. Check out Thottbot any time you're in doubt. VS fields about 8% more MAXs than TR, and with the Uni-MAX, that number will surely increase. Superior numbers and superior MAXs. Must be a good feeling.

I wonder if MAXs are a secret liability to the user. You can't use your equipment skills, Command Uplink Device and you can't drive a vehicle. You also become vulnerable to a mindlessly simple weapon system that deals out a two-shot kill. Maybe sucky MAXs are part of TR's winning formula. Then again, with no MAXs on the field, the enemy can milk their Heavy Assault weapons non-stop.

No bitching here, I'm just looking forward to being Decimator-proof by not taking the TR Uni-MAX. The extra five credits can buy a lot of whoop-ass. I just hope not too many of my TR brothers and sisters decide to follow suit, or we'll never be able to make enemy infantry switch off of their Heavy Assault weapons.

Well, I plan to keep my MAXs on my Konried char, already got all 3, so I get 3 extra points to use!

Comet sucks past Medium range. You gotta really aim good. And if your target is moving, don't bother wasting your ammo. You might hit with a few shots, but you'll never kill a moving target at long range with the comet. It is effective for scare tactics though.

the comet just owns all other MAXes head to head at close range.

doesn't matter to me. being a cloaker, if any enemy max sees me im pretty much dead meat.

Pounder is the second-longest range weapon in the game. Only beat by the Bolt Driver. They can lob those nades hundreds of meters.

Check out a Pounder in VR if you want a good laugh. If those grenades don't directly contact the target, they do absolute crap for damage. It's actually possible to spend an entire clip on a stationary target 80m away and not kill them.

Unlike the Burster and Dual-Cycler, the Pounder is stupid now, an insult to the fine tradition of the Terran Republic. Still, like I said, it makes infantry switch off of their Heavy Assault weapon, which has value in-and-of itself.

How to Take out Pounders with Scattermax: Run up to the Pounder so when it fires the splash damage hurts its self and you can shoot your shotgun at it. Ive killed countless Pounders with this tactic

Rayder

Yeah, the Pounder is pretty much useless, it took about twenty, TWENTY! of those grenades to kill a rexo at pretty much point blank, and the 4 second reload? the DC is good for close range, but otherwise its pointless. I've been seeing more Bursters lately, doing everything, AA, AV, AI.

The only thing I don't like about VS Maxes is how many there are.

A couple nights ago at a tower we pushed the VS back in, I opened the door and there was, no joke, 8 VS maxes forming a wall guarding the cc.

I don't blame them for using them though, they're really good MAX's, just don't let any of your VS brothers bitch things like, "OMG WHY DO ALL THE NC HAVE PHOENIX WTF!?!?!" because I think we know why hehe.

TR maxes use to be so over powered though, pounder could kill Fields or reinforeceds and even dent Tanks to the point of turning away, but now they got nerfed a bit too much, someware in-between would be nice. And fix the NC maxes shield that a POS.

TR MAXs aside from the pounder are still good, but only really shine when locked down.
In it's locked down mode the dual cycler is a death machine. I've guarded towers from hordes of enemy infantry before, it just saws right through them. I've been able to stand toe to toe with Scattermax and comet before too and come out on top.
Thats when locked down in a defensive position. If you're moving, they just get in behind you and blow your guts out.
Burster is great also. It's good against air in normal mode. When locked down it's positively deadly. It works decent on vehicles too. I find that it's almost worthless on infantry though. It can take 2-3 clips to take out an infantry unit. It does hurt them though and makes them panic.
Pounder is a joke now. Even locked down you're mostly just a target. They might as well have it spray confetti and glitter. It would do about as much damage but at least it would look cool.
Outside of VR I have never successfully killed an enemy unit with the pounder.

What I've found out is that if you use a Pounder and an enemy sees you, you can probably get someone to come kill him while he's laughing.
