It's not going to be worth the effort, between the upkeep costs and the increased targeting by enemies due to better xp.
Is sony just stupid? Very little they have done lately, aside from the lodestar, has made people very happy.
Core Combat was a waste of money, Infiltrators are becomeing disgrutled with the radar bugs, people always have(and probably always will) bitch about HA inbalance, and galaxy pilots and adv. medics are a dieing race.
I thought this game would last a long time, but sony just seems to be dedicated to driveing it into the ground.

I agree that in this present implementation, OBO is more of a liability to an outfit then it is an asset. That said, I'm all for making bases "livable" areas for outfits. Convert those useless decorative terminals on the walls into functional systems...
Communications: Found in or near the lounge, this terminal would allow for in-game email and message board systems for the resident outfit.
Callender: In the entry room, the Callender is a planning tool for upper level commanders in an outfit to post specific operations on a specific date. Could be filtered by outfit rank as well. Normal users could "enlist" for a mission and have their name added to a roster. Later, a provision could be added for enemy hackers subverting this system and learn bits of info at a time.
Admin: You could roll this into the main terminal, but it would probably feed more of a "living" base concept if it were placed elsewhere, maybe in the catacombs. This allows for high-ranking officers in an outfit to promote, set privledges and view logs of outfit credit expendatures. (Still do-able from the outfit window, just consolidated for ease of access.) Would double as a "profile page" for users without access to the admin section, allowing them to post location (real-world), Time zone, email or instant messaging contact info, ect, into a place where admins could view it.
Lounge: The lounge should get some more stuff. Let users "sleep" in the beds, logging them out of the game, and making them spawn back at the OBO when they log back on (assuming it's still under empire control.). Implement a small mini-game for play on the holotable, and maybe even implement a trading card game in the game that players could play at the table.
Systems: Ranking users (set by officers through the "Admin" Terminal) can upgrade base facilities with this terminal, and ANYONE (of the outfit or not) can use this to view the status of any feature of the base. More advanced features could be manual allocation of NTUs for repair, and swapping of barrels on turrets... at the cost of outfit credits, of course. (Again, only able to be done by a member given permission by an officer on the "admin" terminal.)
Note: For the non-base specfic terminals, duplicates would be at sanctuary with full functionality for baseless outfits. Any outfit can access a bare-bottoms version of their "outfit network" through any friendly base's terminals, but for full functionality, they'll have to use the sanctuary terminals or their own OBO's. (Think of the old PSU forums. That's what you'd be able to access in the communications terminal from another outfit's owned base terminals. This new and improved forum would only be accessable from sanctuary or your Outfit's OBO).
In short, what I am asking for:
1- Put a sense of community in-game. Think the Tribes 2 community browser. Only implement it in a way that makes the bases feel more like places where soldiers garrison, sleep, and live.
2- Give me a reason to want to stay in my outfit base when it's not under attack. Let me do things with my fellow outfit mates that go beyond shooting up the enemy. I'm not asking for The Sims Online here, but just some small diversions that would go nicely with the OBO concept.

I posted my ideas on improvements on my ZombieSide page ( http://www.apocalypse-ps.com/zombieb ) and also in the forum thread by sporkfire. I don't think I should repaste it here as its a bit long :P
Anyways... :groovy:

I actually like LNS's ideas. Except for the lounge. Like Hamma said this isn't an RPG. But a calander and communicating with other owned bases would be a cool addition.

So if some little fool comes along and caps a cont facility by facility while your empire are all asleep and takes YOUR facility, you'll have to PAY AGAIN to make it your own again?
good idea, borked implementation again....

I do like the idea of LNS0388, but one problem. Like TeraHertz said. Someone has come along and cap'd your base while you were asleep. You all do reallize that bases change hands all the time. Also lets say that everyone gets a base, which would never happen because there are more outifts out there than bases. Now what. Some peeps will not leave their bases cause they don't want to loose it. I mean you all head off to attack a base. Get there and the forces you left back at the outfit base are falling under a major zerg. Which places us back to the bases being the center of all the action. So you all recall to stop it and ditch the base you where working on. If you loss both bases now your ass out an outfit base and all the work you put into hitting the other base. So now you are screwed on all the outfit points you spent. Okay enough of my bitching.
It may but I don't like to stand around a base anyways. So I don't care about owning one. I think it may be cool to be able to own a base, just to say it. Other than that not that great

that means yoru just going to have to learn how to hold a base at night.

How is that different than now. Youll just have to have enough people to defend and atack stuff. So youll have be more thtn 20 people to hold a base. Maybe. they didnt change anything about the the game they just added your name to the base. Thats not logical.

If you had bothered readong pyro he was arguing that base ownership itself was going to make base defense impossible!!!! thats is not logical. It only adds your name to the base and gives you some defense help! Theres nothing being changed that makes anything differnet/more difficult about base defense than it is now. Thats why its not logical!

I htought u didnt have the game ait?
Well your opinions are somewhat logical, it wouldnt be any harder to hold a base than before.....it's too bad bases change hands atleast 2 times every day!!!!!!!
If it was possible to defend now, OBO would be a good idea, too bad its all but impossible ATM

Incentives
The longer the base is owned, the more capture experience enemies will gain from a successful capture of that base. Information about the length of time a facility has been claimed can be found on the Facility Information Pane (opened by double-clicking the facility on the overhead map).
So let me get this straight.
The Developers want me to take my outfit, and all whopping thirty active people, and claim a base so we can have a nifty recall point.
And we're supposed to do what? Provide XP fodder for a large enemy outfit? Yeah let me just help them out by providing an XP farm. Because that's my goal in Planetside, to level-up the competition.
So I can either take a base and then go run around and respawn there if I die and *HOPE* someone doesn't camp it and make some mad XP in its capture, or I can take a base and then go sit in a turret and play Homeland Defense, which effectively means I'm sitting in one spot praying the bad guys don't take away my new toy - which EFFECTIVELY means that I'm not out killing things, stealing things, or blowing things up. In other words, not having any fun, which is what I pay money for.
OR, alternatively, I can arrive at a dropship center and proceed to lay claim to it, only to find out an outfit with a serious penchant for TK decides they want it and happens to be standing there at the same time I am. Joy. They'll get 25 grief for waxing me, because the grief system is so finely-balanced.
This is a bigger liability than a free pie table at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting.
