Yay preview: I checked all the links I'm pasting in here... you've got to hit next/prev then prev/next... They've got some sort of anti-deep-linking thing going on.

Some interseting screen shots there in their gallery. Several of someone in a lightening, and more VS MAX shots.

Well.. their screenshots of the Vanu MAX confirmed that it has 650 armor, not 850.

Oh, and there's a pretty sweet shot of that same vanu max and a TR MAX, locked down btw, exchanging fire:

It shows that the VR max is taking damage from "Roshwartz". THIS shot shows a rather long "kill" list that Roshwartz is racking up (4 that are visible):

Deduction Number 1:

leads me to believe that the Anti-personnel MAX is a prerequisite for the other two (anti-vehicular and AA).

Deduction Number 2:
Leaving the AMS, that VS MAX has 600 energy in it's inventory. IF Quasar ammo uses the same enrgy packs as all other VS weapons, that means he has 12 energy boxes in his inventory. that's 4x3. And you'll recall from my previous screenshot thread that each box is 3x3. That gives the MAX an inventory space of 12x9.

By way of comparison, the agile armor has 6x9... half what a MAX can carry (according to me).

And that's just if he's not packing anything else (medkits and the like).

So there are a bunch of "if"s in there, but it seems about right to me.

This is a screenshot from an infantryman on the recieving end of a Prowler. Not pretty. He's dieing as we watch.

The interesting thing to note is that he has zero health, but non-zero armor.

Armor doesn't block everything. The damage display says that he just took "5 armor" and "95 health" damage from that shot. Ouch. I'm guessing his armor didn't do much good at all... and this was a guy in an agile exo too, not just the "standard" suit.

And what did we learn in class today children? Infantry should stay the hell away from tanks.

And it is true that the tank took off 95 health and only 5 armor (at least I assume its the tank), but the other guy took off 18 armor and no health. Perhaps explosions do more damage to health than other weapons. It would make sense because armor cant protect as well against a shockwave as it can against bullets.

And the fact that he is using a quasar against a MAX got me thinking. What does a MAX count as, is it an infantry, or is it a vehicle? Are they damaged more by AP or standard rounds? Would it be more effective to use a Pulsar or a Lancer against them?

It yused to be PSX now it's PSone or PS1, nbot sure which.
Also, MAX is noted as heavy armor. If you break the armor you probably have to abandon it or you may just start to lose health with shots that go through and hit you after the armor runs out. It's infantry but it has alot of armor.

Well it isnt that great, but I also noticed that your stamina seems to recover pretty fast. I think that the following screenshots take place over a fairly short period of time.

As I said it isnt any sort of great revelation, but we might as well gleen as much info as possible from the screenshots they give us right :)

In that segment you can also see the explosion from the Basilisk blowing up, there have been a lot of threads lately about what happens when a vehicle blows up so this is a good example.

Graphically it doesn't look too great. Maybe th reason it requires a Gig processor is the vastness of it. HGuge backgrounds. I'll probably have to stick with medium quality at best. I'm thinking driving a Heavy Tank will be more fun than I originally I thought. I might do that. A tank driver and I'll probably get medium armor and Medium assault for when I go pure grunt. I can't even tell there's plane clipping at all...Heh...

Well the resolution in the beta probably isnt very good, you add on the fact that screenshots are often poorer quality than the real thing and I think the graphics will be pretty good. Of course it does all depend on your comp specs...a good reason to upgrade.

Looks ok. I think that it will look better in game and depending on the computer. I think just the pure vastness you can see is a big drainer of power. I'm upgrading majorly in the summer. For now, I'm just getting some more RAM, 512 MB or so. They've said it isn't going to look as good as UT2003 but that game is basically all indoor. I'll turn off shadows and that'll free up so many resources it'll run 50% better. Shadows do that...I'll be sticking to 800X600 which is what I think that is. My processor is acceptable but my vid card is good, especially for a processor of that speed. A Gig or so processor with a Radeon 8500. It's jsut a bit behind the GF4 Ti.

Has anyone else noticed that in the screenshots on the diagram of the vehicle in the bottom righthand corner of the screen the rear of the lightining is red. What do you think this means? Perhaps he took damage there recently and that area is more vulnerable now? Interesting....

I believe it lights up like that to show where you are getting hit and/or are damaged.

I'm fairly sure that the vehicle graphic there is the 'health' - the graphic fills up with red from the bottom to top as you get damaged. When it's full, the vehicle is destroyed.

As vehicles don't have different hitzones, and the bar does fill as hits are taken (from movies) it can't really be much else.

The direction hits come from is given by the red flashing chevron-shaped things in the middle of the HUD as you are hit.

I've seen that there is no region specific damage on people, but not vehicles. It might be safe to assume the same would go for vehicles but I hope tanks have different armored areas. It would really make flanking useful and more strategy in attacking. Not sure whether or not they plan on putting it in vehicles. Do you knwo anything Hamma?

The character is at battle rank 20, and at last I heard that was the maximum battle rank.

He's got no certification points left: I assume they've all been spent.

Looking at the certifications he has in the list on the right, and the fact that the scroll bar only shows a small amount of movement left, I'd say that rank 20 does not mean you have anything like a lot of certifications. I'd say that many of them must cost more than 1 cert point each.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more nuts this seems - they must not have gotten a full 21 cert points to spend, this guy doesn't have anywhere near the number of certs I think he should have.

Some certs do indeed cost more points, also some certs require you to have other certs in order to learn them.

Im sure he spent all his points - I did when I played hehe. This is more proof that you cannot be a jack of all trades.

Which is really good. I think they'll get that part right on until people start whining they can't do enough and they allow too much and everyone becomes a "jack of all trades". Hopefully that will never happen.

I'm guessing too that he must have made a new character to use the MAX - assuming that it was the same person taking all the screenshots, because it didn't look like he was certified in MAX armor on the character screen.

I guess this settles the problem of people wanting to use MAX armor, fly galaxies, drive all the tanks and be snipers all with their 'main' character.

I'm pleased to see that specialization will be forced - hopefully that will result in more people being good at what they do, rather than doing everything poorly. It'll also make people that do the less-glorious roles of combat engineer and medic more recognized, as there will be fewer people with those skills.

The sad thing is that people who have older gfx cards might not be able to cloak those in infiltraitor suits much like how those who use older vid cards see all predators uncloaked in AvP2. It would suck to have people start turning down their settings so they could see infiltrators, but you know it will happen if it's possible :(
