For those who don't know, many people who use Comcast as their ISP have problems getting into the site- periodically they can't get in at all. It's related to DNS. The problem is Comcast's. We can use the IP link to get in, but we cannot post. CGI proxies have been the only solution, except that for me they all fail except one: Proxify. proxify.com (no www. in front).
Now Proxify is the suck. They added ads, are begging for money, and asking you to subscribe. However, I am having a problem with images. I can't see your avatars and sigs starting after a few replies to a topic. This is irrational to the point where, Onizuka for example, starts a thread, and when he replies halfway down, I can't see his avatar/sig, even though it appeared the first time.
I'm all for a few strategically placed backpacks full of C4 at Proxify and Comcast HQs.
No, proxify is letting me broswe this place 'till they get their fucking act together. However if you blow the hell of Comcast, their service may improve.

Note that this applies to myself- Lonehunter starts thread, three replies, my post is 4th, boom! It has no avatar or sig.

Shit- Proxify went subscriber-only for a few minutes there. This is a very bad omen. If I leave for no reason, you know why.

It would be MUCH easier to just manually define your DNS servers. It will take a whopping 20 seconds to do.
I even posted two known good Comcast DNS servers that are replicating the A name for planetside-universe.com just fine. But everyone in that thread would get spanked and sent to the corner if they changed a DNS server setting!
So they complain, and complain, and complain about something that would take 20 seconds to fix.

Na, I do the spanking most of time. Only when I'm feeling frisky will I let her do me....
Anyways, I just like to bitch.

YOu can post which DNS servers work, just dont modify your hosts file. I could care less about changing your DNS servers :p

I will assume you have XP or 2k. Go to Control Panel, Network, Right click Local Area Network, Properties, Properties on TCP/IP, set these as your DNS servers:
68.42.244.12
68.42.244.5
Say ok to everything, no need to reboot.
Let me know if it works for ya.

Here is a search for a bunch of web proxys a few of them work and have been working for a while.

Squick, you're DNS things didn't work. In fact, it killed my internet all together. :damnit:

Bleh, that must mean that Comcast is limiting who can access their DNS servers by region...
Hamma, do you care if other people use your DNS server? Do you have forwarders set up to process all DNS records, I checked against a few public servers and it was passing non authoratative DNS queries off to another server. (Or you are secretly caching the dot zone :D {yeah, even less people are gona get that then your Matrix joke aren't they...})
NAME1.PLANETSIDE-UNIVERSE.COM 69.31.7.50

I tried it, it didn't work, but it didn't mess anything up either.

DNS uses very little bandwidth, I would guesstimate well under 1k for a full DNS query and response.
But for you googlers, I'm sure you can find a DNS server that is publicly available.
Do this... Go to start, run, type "CMD."
At the prompt type "nslookup" <enter>
Ignore anything that it says... At the new prompt type in the IP address of the DNS server you found, hit enter.
If it looks like it connected then good. Type "www.planetside-universe.com" without the quotes and hit enter. If it resolves to 69.31.7.50 then you are golden, next try "www.google.com" just to make sure it is resolving lots of stuff.
Once someone finds an open DNS server that allows queries you will be all set.
